The wild population of the African lion Panthera leo continues to decline, requiring alternate conservation programs to be considered. One such program is ex situ reintroduction. Prior to release, longterm monitoring and assessment of behavior is required to determine whether prides and coalitions behave naturally and are sufficiently adapted to a wild environment. Social network analysis （SNA） can be used to provide insight into how the pride as a whole and individuals within it, function. Our study was conducted upon 2 captive-origin prides who are part of an ex situ reintroduction program, and 1 wild pride of African lion. Social interactions were collected at all occurrence for each pride and categorized into greet, social grooming, play, and aggression. Betweenness centrality showed that offspring in each pride were central to the play network, whereas degree indicated that adults received （indegree） the greatest number of overall social interactions, and the adult males of each pride were least likely to initiate （outdegree） any interactions. Through the assessment of individual centrality and degree values, a social keystone adult female was identified for each pride. Social network results indicated that the 2 captive-origin prides had formed cohesive social units and possessed relationships and behaviors comparable with the wild pride for the studied behaviors. This study provided the first SNA comparison between captive-bred origin and a wild pride of lions, providing valuable information on individual and pride sociality, critical for determining the success of prides within an ex situ reintroduction program.

Ionic liquid/tetraglyme hybrid Mg[TFSI]_2 electrolytes for rechargeable Mg batteries

The electrochemical reversibility of Mg in hybrid electrolytes based on mixtures of ionic liquid and glyme based organic solvents was investigated for applications in rechargeable magnesium batteries(RMBs). The electrolytes demonstrate reversible reduction and oxidation of Mg only after being pre-treated with the dehydrating agent, magnesium borohydride, Mg[BH_4]_2, highlighting the importance of removing water in Mg based electrolytes. The addition magnesium di[bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide](Mg[TFSI]_2)(0.3 M) to N-butyl-n-methyl-pyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide [C4 mpyr][TFSI]/tetraglyme at a mole ratio of 1:2 showed stable CV cycling over almost 300 cycles while scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) confirmed Mg deposition, showing non-dendritic morphology and a well-aligned growth. Further thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) demonstrated a mass retention of 79% at 250℃ for this electrolyte suggesting that the presence of the ionic liquid increases thermal stability substantially making these hybrid electrolytes compatible for RMBs.

Inter-hospital transfers and door-to-balloon times for STEMI: a single centre cohort study

Background Key performance indices such as door-to-balloon times have long been recognized as quality metrics in reducing time to care for patients with acute coronary syndromes(ACS). In the situation where patients do not present to a facility capable of 24/7 percutaneous coronary interventions(PCI) delays in time to therapy can exceed the recommendation of 90 min or less. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of transfers on performance indices for patients diagnosed with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI). Methods Over a seven month collection period, all patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of ACS and admitted for PCI were studied. Patients were divided into dichotomous groups of direct presentations or transfers from a secondary non-PCI capable hospital with key times recorded, including symptom-onset, first hospital and PCI-capable hospital arrival and balloon inflation times to evaluate time of treatment for STEMI patients. Results Of the 87 patients diagnosed with STEMI, transferred patients experienced statistically significant delays in symptom-onset to the PCI-capable hospital(PCI-H) arrival(215 vs. 95 min, P < 0.001), symptom-onset to balloon inflation(225 vs. 160 min, P = 0.009) and first hospital arrival to balloon inflation times(106 vs. 56 min, P < 0.001). Only 28%(n = 9) of transferred patients underwent balloon inflation within 90 min from first hospital arrival, while 60%(n = 19) did within 120 min, although all received balloon inflation within 90 min from arrival at the PCI-H. After controlling for confounding factors of socio-economic status, presentation date/time and diagnostic category, transferred patients experienced an average 162% longer delays from symptom-onset to PCI-H door arrival, and 98% longer delays in symptom-onset to balloon inflation;compared to patients who present directly to the PCI-H. Water is an essential component of the Earth’s climate,but monitoring its properties using autonomous underwater sampling robots remains a significant challenge due to lack of underwater geolocalization *** methods for underwater geolocalization rely on tethered systems with limited coverage or daytime imagery data in clear waters,leaving much of the underwater environment *** in turbid waters or at night has been considered unfeasible due to absence of identifiable *** this paper,we present a novel method for underwater geolocalization using deep neural networks trained on-10 million polarization-sensitive images acquired globally,along with camera position sensor *** approach achieves longitudinal accuracy of-55 km(-1000 km)during daytime(nighttime)at depths up to-8 m,regardless of water *** clear waters,the transfer learning longitudinal accuracy is-255 km at 50 m *** leveraging optical data in conjunction with camera position information,our novel method facilitates underwater geolocalization and offers a valuable tool for untethered underwater navigation.

Conversion coatings of Mg-alloy AZ91D using trihexyl(tetradecyl) phosphonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide ionic liquid

This work reveals the performance of a trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide ([P6,6,6,14][NTf2]) ionic liquid (IL) conversion coating upon AZ91D. Such conversion coatings represent a novel avenue for chromate replacement. An optimization of coating performance was pursued by careful alloy pretreatment to generate a surface on which the coating performs best, as the AZ91 substrate is distinctly different from pure or dilute Mg alloys. The results reveal that a functional conversion coating can be achieved, retarding anodic dissolution kinetics, causing a significant decrease in corrosion rate. The coating efficacy is closely tied to the pretreatment performed, which dictates both the microstructural and electrochemical heterogeneity of the surface. The resulting coatings were found to contain MgxFx and phosphonium cation related components, the proportions of which were dependent on the pretreatment.

The joint European Space Agency and Chinese Academy of Sciences Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)mission will explore global dynamics of the magnetosphere under varying solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field conditions,and simultaneously monitor the auroral response of the Northern Hemisphere *** these large-scale responses with medium and fine-scale measurements at a variety of cadences by additional ground-based and space-based instruments will enable a much greater scientific impact beyond the original goals of the SMILE ***,we describe current community efforts to prepare for SMILE,and the benefits and context various experiments that have explicitly expressed support for SMILE can offer.A dedicated group of international scientists representing many different experiment types and geographical locations,the Ground-based and Additional Science Working Group,is facilitating these *** include constructing an online SMILE Data Fusion Facility,the discussion of particular or special modes for experiments such as coherent and incoherent scatter radar,and the consideration of particular observing strategies and spacecraft *** anticipate growing interest and community engagement with the SMILE mission,and we welcome novel ideas and insights from the solar-terrestrial community.

Practical Guidance for Non-Specialist Physical Therapists Managing People with Hemophilia and Musculoskeletal Complications

People with hemophilia (PWH) have impaired blood coagulation and hemostasis. Bleeding into joints and muscles is the main manifestation of the disorder, causing severe joint damage and muscle complications. Lifelong, regular physical therapy is therefore important for PWH, in order to support recovery from bleeds and reduce recurrences. Ideally, these individuals should be in the care of a hemophilia treatment center (HTC), where a physical therapist (PT) should be a regular part of the comprehensive team. However, not all PWH have convenient access to an HTC, and they may be referred to local non-specialist PTs, who may have only limited experience with the condition, for day-to-day physical therapy treatment. This article, written by four experienced hemophilia PTs, introduces key aspects of the pathology of the hemophilic joint in adult PWH with musculoskeletal complications or established joint disease (or those with inhibitors) that are relevant to PTs. The characteristic differences between the joints of PWH and those of people with similar pathologies are clarified. Practical advice on how the physical therapy consultation can be adjusted for PWH is given, and the importance of communicating with the HTC emphasized. The aim of this narrative review is to raise awareness of hemophilia and joint disease for non-specialist PTs, and serve as helpful background information for PTs who encounter PWH with musculoskeletal complications or established joint disease in their clinics.
