We qua.tita.ively s.udy the Ra.a. a.d photolumines.ence (PL) emis.ion from s.ngle-la.er molybdenum dis.lfide (Mos.) on dielectric (s.O2, hexa.ona. boron nitride, mica.a.d the polymeric dielectric Gel-Film®) a.d conducting s.bs.ra.es.(a. a.d few-la.er gra.hene). We find tha. the s.bs.ra.e ca. a.fect the Ra.a. a.d PL emis.ion in a.twofold ma.ner. Firs., the a.s.rption a.d emis.ion intens.ties.a.e s.rongly modula.ed by the cons.ructive/des.ructive interference within the different s.bs.ra.es. s.cond, the pos.tion of the a.g Ra.a. mode pea. a.d the s.ectra. weight between neutra. a.d cha.ged excitons.in the PL s.ectra.a.e modified by the s.bs.ra.e. We a.tribute this.effect to s.bs.ra.e-induced cha.ges.in the doping level a.d in the deca. ra.es.of the excitonic tra.s.tions. Our res.lts.provide a.method to qua.tita.ively s.udy the Ra.a. a.d PL emis.ion from Mos.-ba.0}d vertica. heteros.ructures.a.d repres.nt the firs. s.ep in a. hoc tuning the PL emis.ion of 1L Mos. by s.lecting the proper s.bs.ra.e.

Before the s.udy of their mecha.ica. properties.with a.la.0}r interferometer, we verified the oxida.ion a.d crys.a.linity of the freely s.s.ended ta.ta.um oxide us.ng high-res.lution electron micros.opy.
