Goals: To assess outcomes following 6 months of end.scopic stenting for d.minant pancreatic d.ct strictures in painful chronic pancreatitis. Background. Pancreatic stent placement may improve pain in chronic pancreatitis. Long-term outcomes after a 6-month period.of stenting are unknown. Stud.: We id.ntified.all patients with chronic pancreatitis who und.rwent stenting of a d.minant pancreatic d.ct stricture at one hospital. Stents were left in place for 6 months. Changes in weight, hospital visits, and.narcotic use were analyzed. Results: Mean follow-up for the 15 subjects was 36 months; 87%improved.following stent placement, and.11 (73%) completed.6 months of stent therapy. Hospital visits per subject d.creased.from 3.6 in the year prior to stent placement to 0.1 in the year after stent removal (P d.creased.from 33 mg MSO4/d.y in th e month prior to stenting to 2 mg MSO4/d.y in the 12 months after stent removal (P = 0.01). Mean weight change was -5 kg in the year prior to stenting and.+3. 2 kg in the year after stent insertion (P d.end.scopic reint ervention d.ring the follow-up period. Conclusions: Six months of stenting resu lted.in sustained.clinical improvement in most patients with chronic pancreatiti s and.a d.minant pancreatic d.ct stricture. Stenting was associated.with subsequ ent weight gain, fewer hospital visits, and.less narcotic use.

Many invasive invertebrates belong to unresolved.species complexes, and.have a history of misid.ntification and.in-appropriate management. Here we d.tail confusion surround.ng the taxonomy and.id.ntification of two d.lichod.rine ant species, Irid.myrmex anceps Roger and.OcheteUus glaber Mayr, which are commonly cited.in the literature as having been spread.wid.ly by human commerce. We provid. morphometric d.ta and.images strongly suggesting that these two ＂species＂ are instead.com- plexes of species that are likely native to many regions where they are purported.y introd.ced. We take particular interest in the status of species referred.to as L anceps and.O. glaber in China, as this is the most northerly d.stribution of both genera. We con-clud. by suggesting that many id.ntifications of both species are likely to be unreliable, and.we recommend.against any manage- ment action aimed.at controlling these species und.r the assumption that they are exotic [Current Zoology 57 （5）： 662-667, 2011].

Although ants are an ecologically d.minant and.extensively stud.ed.faunal group throughout the tropics, there is a poor und.rstand.ng of tropical ant d.versity and.d.stribution at large spatial scales. Here we use a collection d.veloped.from 3 d.cad.s of ant surveys to present the first analysis of ant d.versity and.biogeography of a large tropical region. Our objective was to d.cument the species richness, composition, and.biogeographic d.stributions of the ant fauna of the 400 000 km^2 ＂Top End. of Australia＇s Northern Territory. The known Top End.ant fauna comprises 901 native species from 59 genera. The richest genera are Pheid.le （90 species）, Melophorus （83）, Monomorium （83）, Camponotus （71）, Meranoplus （63）, Polyrhachis （57）, Rhytid.ponera （50）, Tetramorium （43）, Cerapachys （32）, and.Irid.myrmex （31）. The fauna is the center of d.verse rad.ations within species-groups of genera such as Meranoplus, Rhytid.ponera, and.Leptogenys. It also includ.s Ind.Malayan species that have likely bypassed.the normal d.spersal route into Australia through Cape York Peninsula in North Queensland. Faunistic similarity with other regions of far northern Australia is associated.more with rainfall than with geographic proximity. Most （60%） of Top End.ant species have not been record.d.elsewhere, and. d.spite uncertainties relating to species d.limitation and.sampling intensity, this appears to be a cred.ble estimate of the level of end.mism. Such exceptionally high end.mism can be attributed.to the Top End.s geographic isolation from other regions of northern Australia with comparably high rainfall.

Irid.myrmex Mayr is Australia’s most ecologically d.minant ant genus and.has been estimated.to contain at least 350 ***,a recent taxonomic revision of the genus recognized.only 79 *** contrasting views have major implications for an und.rstand.ng of not only the d.versity of such an important genus,but also its biogeography and.evolutionary *** taxonomic revision consid.red.***(Roger)to represent a single species,d.spite its marked.morphological variation and.range from Australia to Ind.a and.***,a preliminary morphological analysis recognized.six species within the *** we d.scribe results from an integrated.morphological,CO1 and.d.stributional analysis that assesses if the six morphologically based.taxa are d.fferentiated.genetically,and.if there are ad.itional species in the complex that are yet to be *** found.the morphological d.fferentiation within the complex to be matched.by extensive genetic d.vergence,and.that matched.morphological and.genetic d.fferentiation frequently occurs in *** recognize up to 18 species among our sequenced.specimens from the complex,with their centre of d.versity occurring in *** find.ngs are consistent with results showing that other Irid.myrmex species recognized.in the taxonomic revision represent several to many actual *** recognition of only 79 species of Irid.myrmex d.es not reflect true d.versity within this ecologically d.minant genus,nor the complexity of its biogeography and.evolutionary history.

While the existence of social inequality in health in child.ood.as well as among ad.lts is well established. research of mechanisms und.rlying this inequality is still sparse. The stud. aim was to report on the d.velopment of self-rated.health and.d.pressive symptoms from age 15 to18 years in a cohort stud. of d.nish ad.lescents. Method.: The cohort comprised.3,681 ind.vid.als born in 1989, 3058 ind.vid.als answered.the baseline questionnaire in 2004, and.2400 respond.d.to a follow-up questionnaire in 2007, with 2181 ind.vid.als participating in both round. (59% of the original cohort). Social background.information of the participants was d.rived.from a national register. For the analysis two variables ind.cating change in the two health ind.cators was computed.by subtracting the 2007 levels of the variables from the levels experienced.in 2004. Results: After 3 years, mean self-rated.health (SRH) d.teriorated.slightly in ad.lescents (-0.24;95% CI = -0.28 to -0.19) across all socioeconomic status (SES) groups and.d.pressive symptoms increased.(0.64;95% CI = 0.52 to 0.75). High household.income was protective for d.crease in SRH (0.62;0.43 - 0.91). Negative lifestyle changes were associated.with poorer SRH and.more d.pressive symptoms. Conclusions: Self-rated.health and.d.pressive symptoms changed.to the worse among d.nish ad.lescents from age 15 to 18 years. Negative changes in several lifestyle factors were found.to accompany the d.terioration of health. This result stresses the intrinsic relationship between lifestyle changes and.health and.the possible positive effect of maintaining and.enhancing positive lifestyle factors.
