AIM：. To study the effect of oral steroids upon clinical response and rectal mucosa secretion of eosinophil cationic protein （ECP）, myeloperoxidase （NPO）, basic fibroblast growth factor （bFGF）, vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） and albumin in patients with collagenous colitis （CC）. METHODs： A segmental perfusion technique was used to collect perfusates from rectum of CC patients once before and twice （one and four weeks） after the start of steroid treatment. Clinical data was monitored and ECP, MPO, bFGF, VEGF and albumin concentrations were analyzed by immunochemical methods in perfusates and in serum. REsULTs： steroids reduced the number of bowel movements by more than five times within one week and all patients reported improved subjective wellbeing at wk 1 and 4. At the same time, the median concentrations of ECP, bFGF, VEGF and albumin in rectal perfusates decreased significantly. MPO values were above the detection limit in only 3 patients before treatment and in none during treatment. VEGF, bFGF, ECP and albumin concentrations correlated with each other with the exception of ECP and albumin. A decrease of serum ECP and VEGF concentrations was also seen even if the overtime reduction was not significant.CONCLUsION： Oral steroid treatment in CC patients induced a simultaneous reduction of bowel movements and rectal release of ECP, bFGF, VEGF and albumin, suggesting that these polypeptides and increased mucosal permeability are important components of the pathophysiology in collagenous colitis.

AIM To determine whether hepatitis B virus(HBV)-testing could serve as a gateway to vaccinate non-immunized individuals in a low-prevalent *** Non-immunized subjects participating in a multi-center, HBV-testing campaign in Paris, France were identified and contacted via telephone 3-9 mo after testing in order to determine vaccination status. Vaccination coverage was evaluated in per-protocol(for all respondents) and intent-to-treat analysis(assuming all non-responders did not vaccinate).REsULTs In total, 1215/4924(24.7%) enrolled subjects with complete HBV serology were identified as nonimmunized and eligible for analysis. There were 99/902 successfully contacted subjects who had initiated HBV vaccination after screening: per-protocol, 11.0%(95%CI: 9.0-13.2); intent-to-treat, 8.2%(95%CI: 6.7-9.8). In multivariable analysis, vaccination was more likely to be initiated in individuals originating from moderate or high HBV-endemic countries(P s with limited healthcare coverage(P = 0.01) and men who have sex with men(P = 0.02). When asked about the reasons for not initiating HBV vaccination, the most frequent response was "will be vaccinated later"(33.4%), followed by "did not want to vaccinate"(29.8%), and "vaccination was not proposed by the physician"(21.5%). sub-group analysis indicated a stark contrast in vaccination coverage across centers, ranging from 0%-56%.CONCLUsION HBV-vaccination after HBV screening was very low in this study, which appeared largely attributed to physician-patient motivation towards vaccination. Increased vaccination coverage might be achieved by emphasizing its need at the organizational level.

Miniaturization of light-emitting diodes(LEDs) with sizes down to a few micrometers has become a hot topic in both academia and industry due to their attractive applications on self-emissive displays for high-definition televisions,augmented/mixed realities and head-up displays, and also on optogenetics, high-speed light communication, etc. The conventional top-down technology uses dry etching to define the LED size, leading to damage to the LED side *** sizes of microLEDs approach the carrier diffusion length, the damaged side walls play an important role, reducing microLED performance significantly from that of large area LEDs. In this paper, we review our efforts on realization of microLEDs by direct bottom-up growth, based on selective area metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy. The individual LEDs based on either GaN nanowires or InGaN platelets are smaller than 1 μm in our approach. such nano-LEDs can be used as building blocks in arrays to assemble microLEDs with different sizes, avoiding the side wall damage by dry etching encountered for the top-down approach. The technology of InGaN platelets is especially interesting since InGaN quantum wells emitting red, green and blue light can be grown on such platelets with a low-level of strain by changing the indium content in the InGaN platelets. This technology is therefore very attractive for highly efficient microLEDs of three primary colors for displays.

Although it has been proven that porous,heteroatomic,and defective structures improve Na storage performance,they also severely affect the initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)due to the huge irreversible capacity in the first cycle,which always limits the practical application of carbon anodes in commercial Na-ion batteries(NIBs).Here,we show the successful synthesis of nanocrystalline cellulose and the derivative hard carbons.A series of treatments including acid hydrolysis,hydrothermal carbonization,and hightemperature pyrolysis help tune the pores,heteroatoms,and defects to achieve an optimized balance between superior ICE and reversible capacity of up to 90.4%and 314 mAh g^(−1).This study highlights that tailoring the electrode microstructure could be an important strategy in the future design of carbonaceous anode materials for high-performance Na-ion batteries.

In order to understand the mechanism of the confinement bifurcation and H-mode power threshold in magnetically confined plasma,a new dynamical model of the L-H transition based on edge instability phase transition（EIPT） has been *** the typical plasma parameters of the EAsT tokamak,the self-consistent turbulence growth rate is analyzed using the simplest case of pressure-driven ballooning-type instability,which indicates that the L-H transition can be caused by the stabilization of the edge instability through *** weak E？×？B flow shear in L-mode is able to increase the ion inertia of the electrostatic motion by increasing the radial wave number of the tilted turbulence structures,which play an important role for accelerating the trigger process of EIPT rather than directly to suppress the turbulent *** the acceleration mechanism of E？×？B flow shear,fast L-H and H-L transitions are demonstrated under the control of the input heating *** to the simplified scrape-offlayer boundary condition applied,the ratio between the heating powers at the H-L and L-H transition respectively differs from the ratio by Nusselt *** results of the modeling reveal a scaling of the power threshold of the L-H transition,P_（L-H）？∝？n^（0.76） B^（0.8） for deuterium *** is found finite Larmor radius induces an isotope effect of the H-mode power threshold.

Optical and magnetic properties of GaN epilayers implanted with ytterbium

We have studied the optical and magnetic properties of ytterbium implanted GaN epilayer grown on (0001) sapphire by metalorganic chemical vapor by deposition (MOCVD). samples were implanted at room temperature with Yb ions at dose 4 1015 cm-2 and energy of 150 keV. The implanted samples were annealed at 1000 C in N2 at atmospheric pressure to recover implantation damages. The photoluminescence (PL), PL excitation (PLE), and PL kinetics have been studied with continuous and pulse photo-excitations in 360-1100 nm spectral range at different temperatures. The characteristic Yb3+ ion emission spectra were observed in the spectral range between 970-1050 nm. Theoretical fittings of the experimental PL temperature and PL kinetics data suggest that Yb3+ ions are involved in at least two major luminescence centers. The PLE spectra indicate that excitation of the Yb3+ ion occurs via electron-hole pair generation and complex processes. Magnetization versus magnetic field curves shows an enhancement of magnetic order for Yb-implanted samples in 5 K to 300 K temperature range. The Yb-implanted GaN sample showing weak ferromagnetic behavior was compared with the ferromagnetic in situ doped GaYbN material.

In this paper the fatigue behavior of laser welded T-joints of stainless steel AIsI304 is investigated experimentally. In the fatigue experiments 36 specimens with a sheet thickness of 1 mm are exposed to one-dimensional cyclic loading. Three different types of specimens are adopted. Three groups of specimens are used, two of these are non-welded and the third is welded with a transverse welding (T-Joint). The 13 laser welded specimens are cut out with a milling cutter. The non-welded specimens are divided in 13 specimens cut out with a milling cutter and 10 specimens cut out by a plasma cutter. The non-welded specimens are used to study the influence of heat and surface effects on the fatigue life. The fatigue life from the experiments is compared to fatigue life calculated from the guidelines in the standards DNV-RP-C203 and EUROCODE 3 EN-1993-1-9. Insignificant differences in fatigue life of the welded and non-welded specimens are observed in the experiments and the largest difference is found in the High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) area. The specimens show a lower fatigue life compared to DNV-RP-C203 and EUROCODE 3 EN-1993-1-9 when the specimens are exposed to less than 4.0 1E06 cycles. Therefore, we conclude that the fatigue life assessment according to the mentioned standards is not satisfactory and reliable.
