ROLE OF SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN MODULATING LIFE CYCLE OF TROPICAL CYCLONES OVER BAY OF BENGAL

Sea surface temperature(SST) varies significantly in the presence of tropical cyclones(TCs). Using fixed SST throughout the integration of high resolution TC models is general practice in research and operational endeavor over the North Indian Ocean. The present study is to assess the impact of updating realistic SST in TC lifetime on track, intensity and rainfall of TCs. The Hurricane Weather Research Forecast(HWRF) model of single domain with 9 km resolution is used. A total of 31 forecast cases are considered from 6 TCs during 2007-16 with unique track and intensity characteristics. A set of two numerical experiments are done without(CNTL) and with 6-hourly SST update(SST) in TC *** track and intensity errors show that there is an improvement of 3–41% in track during 12–120 h forecast length for SST run. The SST runs improve landfall position and time prediction by 20% and 33% respectively. The cross track error of SST run is comparable(44 km) with average errors available for this basin(34 km);and along track errors are improved by 60% as compared to CNTL as well as average errors of the basin. The model is biased to overestimate a weaker TC and underestimate a stronger TC, however, the bias is reduced in SST run by 5–51%. The analyses of wind, enthalpy flux and warm core structures provide insight for realistic intensity prediction of SST run unlike CNTL. Rainfall intensity and radial distribution is also improved in SST run. Thus, this study highlights the significance of ocean coupling with TC models to advance forecast guidance.

Knowledge and Attitudes of Oncology Nurses Toward Clinical Trials-A Secondary Publication

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge and attitudes of oncology nurses toward clinical trials and to provide evidence for the development of clinical trial education programs for oncology ***:The study was conducted on 142 nurses who had more than six months of nursing experience working with cancer patients at a tertiary hospital in Seoul,Korea.A structured questionnaire was used to measure the knowledge and attitudes of oncology nurses toward clinical ***:The participants scored an average of 15.03±3.52 out of 19 in terms of knowledge about clinical *** terms of attitudes toward clinical trials,the participants scored an average of 5.91±1.37 out of *** was a significant positive correlation between the knowledge and attitudes of the participants toward clinical trials(r=0.23,P=0.007).Conclusion:This study found that there was a relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of oncology nurses toward clinical *** improve the competency of oncology nurses and provide high-quality care to patients participating in clinical trials,more systematic and sustainable education is required.

Infliximab vs adalimumab:Points to consider when selecting antitumor necrosis factor agents in pediatric patients with Crohn’s disease

Biologic agents with various mechanisms against Crohn’s disease(CD)have been released and are widely used in clinical ***,two anti-tumor necrosis factor(TNF)agents,infliximab(IFX)and adalimumab(ADL),are the only biologic agents approved by the Food and Drug Administration for pediatric CD ***,in pediatric CD,the choice of biologic agents should be made more carefully to achieve the therapeutic *** are currently no headto-head trials of biologic agents in pediatric or adult *** is a lack of accumulated data for pediatric CD,which requires the extrapolation of adult data for the positioning of biologics in pediatric *** a pharmacokinetic point of view,IFX is more advantageous than ADL when the inflammatory burden is high,and ADL is expected to be advantageous over IFX in sustaining remission in the maintenance ***,we reviewed the safety profile,immunogenicity,preference,and compliance between IFX and ADL and provide practical insights into the choice of anti-TNF therapy in pediatric *** evaluation of clinical indications and disease behavior is essential when prescribing anti-TNF *** addition,factors such as the efficacy of induction and maintenance of remission,safety profile,immunogenicity,patient preference,and compliance play an important role in evaluating and selecting treatment options.

目的探讨大隐静脉曲张射频治疗术后再通的影响因素。方法采用病例对照研究,对南方医科大学南方医院白云分院和南方医科大学南方医院2021年10月至2022年2月射频闭合治疗的大隐静脉曲张患者40例的临床资料进行分析,依据术后康复情况分为对照组、观察组各20例。对照组为术后康复良好患者,观察组为术后再通患者。分析术后再通的影响因素。结果两组CEAP[临床(clinical)、病因(etiologic)、解剖(anatomic)、病理生理学(pathophysiologic)]分级、反流级别、职业因素、合并穿支静脉差异均无统计学意义(均P>0.05),对照组大隐静脉内径为(4.21±1.90)mm,小于观察组的(5.43±1.39)mm,差异有统计学意义(t=2.31,P=0.027)。结论静脉内径是影响大隐静脉曲张射频闭合术后再通的单一因素。

How has the disease course of pediatric ulcerative colitis changed throughout the biologics era?A comparison with the IBSEN study

BACKGROUND In Korea,infliximab was approved for use in children with ulcerative colitis(UC)in October *** To compare the clinical course of UC before and after the introduction of biological agents,and to compare with the IBSEN *** Patients under 18 years of age,who were diagnosed with UC and followed from January 2003 to October 2020,were included in the *** A(n=48)was followed for at least 2 years between January 2003 and October 2012,and Group B(n=62)was followed for at least 2 years between November 2012 and October *** compared endoscopic remission,drug composition,relapse rate,steroidfree period,and the quality of life of each *** plotted the clinical course of the included patients using the pediatric UC activity index score,and compared our patients with those in the IBSEN *** After 2 years of treatment,colonoscopy evaluation revealed different outcomes in the two treatment *** was confirmed in 14 patients(29.2%)of Group A,and in 31 patients(50.0%)of Group B(P<0.012).The median cumulative corticosteroid-free period was 3.0 years in Group A and 4.4 years in Group ***-free period of Group B was significantly longer than that of Group A(P<0.001).There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in evaluation of the relapse rate during the observation period(P<0.001).The plotted clinical course graphs of Group A showed similar proportions to the graphs in the IBSEN ***,in Group B,the proportion of patients corresponding to curve 1(remission or mild severity after initial high activity)was high at 76%(47/62).CONCLUSION The incidence of relapse has decreased and the steroid-free period has increased after the introduction of the biological *** clinical course also showed a different pattern from that of IBSEN *** active use of biological agents may change the long-term disease course in moderate to severe pediatric UC.

Structure and Activity of Strigolactones： New Plant Hormones with a Rich Future

Strigolactones （SLs） constitute a new class of plant hormones which are active as germination stimulants for seeds of parasitic weeds of Striga, Orobanche, and Pelipanchi spp, in hyphal branching of arbuscular mycorrhizal （AM） fungi and as inhibitors of shoot branching. In this review, the focus is on molecular features of these SLs. The occurrence of SLs in root exudates of host plants is described. The naming protocol for SL according to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry （IUPAC） rules and the ＇at a glance＇ method is explained. The total synthesis of some natural SLs is described with details for all eight stereoisomers of strigol. The problems encountered with assign- ing the correct structure of natural SLs are analyzed for orobanchol, alectrol, and solanacol. The structure-activity relationship of SLs as germination stimulants leads to the identification of the bioactiphore of SLs. Together with a tentative mechanism for the mode of action, a model has been derived that can be used to design and prepare active SL analogs. This working model has been used for the preparation of a series of new SL analogs such as Nijmegen-1, and analogs derived from simple ketones, keto enols, and saccharine. The serendipitous finding of SL mimics which are derived from the D-ring in SLs （appropriately substituted butenolides） is reported. For SL mimics, a mode of action is proposed as well. Recent new results support this proposal. The stability of SLs and SL analogs towards hydrolysis is described and some details of the mechanism of hydrolysis are discussed as well. The attempted isolation of the protein receptor for germination and the current status concerning the biosynthesis of natural SLs are briefly discussed. Some non-SLs as germinating agents are mentioned. The structure-activity relationship for SLs in hyphal branching of AM fungi and in repression of shoot branching is also analyzed. Muskingum equation based downstream sediment flow simulation models for a river system

Brain metabolism in patients with vegetative state after post-resuscitated hypoxic-ischemic brain injury： statistical parametric mapping analysis of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography

Background Hypoxic-ischemic brain injury （HIBI） after cardiopulmonary resuscitation is one of the most devastating neurological conditions that causing the impaired consciousness. However, there were few studies investigated the changes of brain metabolism in patients with vegetative state （VS） after post-resuscitated HIBI. This study aimed to analyze the change of overall brain metabolism and elucidated the brain area correlated with the level of consciousness （LOC） in patients with VS after post-resuscitated HIBI. Methods We consecutively enrolled 17 patients with VS after HIBI, who experienced cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Overall brain metabolism was measured by F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography （F-18 FDG PET） and we compared regional brain metabolic patterns from 17 patients with those from 15 normal controls using voxel-by-voxel based statistical parametric mapping analysis. Additionally, we correlated the LOC measured by the JFK-coma recovery scale-revised of each patient with brain metabolism by covariance analysis. Results Compared with normal controls, the patients with VS after post-resuscitated HIBI revealed significantly decreased brain metabolism in bilateral precuneus, bilateral posterior cingulate gyrus, bilateral middle frontal gyri, bilateral superior parietal gyri, bilateral middle occipital gyri, bilateral precentral gyri （PFEw correctecd 〈0.0001 ）, and increased brain metabolism in bilateral insula, bilateral cerebella, and the brainstem （PFEWcorrectecd 〈0.0001 ）. In covariance analysis, the LOC was significantly correlated with brain metabolism in bilateral fusiform and superior temporal gyri （P uncorrected 〈0.005）. Conclusions Our study demonstrated that the precuneus, the posterior cingulate area and the frontoparietal cortex, which is a component of neural correlate for consciousness, may be relevant structure for impaired consciousness in patient with VS after post-resuscitated HIBI.
