Changma is the most important supplier of water resource in Korea. However, its interannual variation may cause either floods or droughts time to time in many regions of Korea. A number of studies on Changma have been done in many subjects, such as the on-set and retreat timing, duration of Changma, and its interannual variation, which may cause either wet or dry Changma, and the heavy rainfall phenomena associated with the Changma front. Also, the subjects covered the dynamical situation of Changma compared to that of Baiu and Mei-yu as a part of East Asian monsoon circulation, and relation between Changma and tropical Pacific sea-surface temperature (SST) through atmosphere-ocean interaction, etc. A numerical study is presented in this paper to check the teleconnection between the behavior of Changma front and the variation of tropical Pacific SST. The difference in the lower level streamfunction between theEl Nio event of 1987 and the La Nia event of 1988 illustrates that the cross-equatorial and westerly wind crossing over the India and Indo-China peninsula were weak during the summer of 1988 compared to 1987. This may cause the drought of 1988 in East Asia by reducing moisture supply from the Indian Ocean and the south-western Pacific. Even though there are numerous research activities on the Changma, our knowledge on the Changma is still limited to explain the mechanism of interannual variation of Changma and to provide a proper prediction of precipitation due to both geographical location of Korea and its complex topography. In collaboration with the international field observational projects, such as GAME and SCSMEX, the Korea Monsoon Experiment (KORMEX) has been planned by several scientists in Korea to improve our knowledge on the atmospheric circulation and water cycle related to the East Asian monsoon and to provide necessary information to predict both short- and long-term variation of rainfall during the Changma season.

Tetralogy of Fallot(TOF)with total anomalous pulmonary vein connections(TAPVC)is a rare type of complex congenital heart disease among all TOF ***-presentation of major aortopulmonary collateral arteries(MAPCAs)compensates for the lack of central pulmonary bloodﬂow and decreases the severity of right-to-left shunting in *** present a case of a 2-year-old child with complex diagnoses of TOF,TAPVC,a large secun-dum atrial septal defect(ASD),and intraoperatively identiﬁed *** underwent surgery to repair the TAPVC,valve-sparing reconstruction of the right ventricular outﬂow tract,interventricular defect closure,and the creation of patent foramen ovale(PFO).After the operation,hemodynamic instability happened along with sudden blood pressure drop,desaturation,and increased central venous pressure,which subsided after adminis-tering inhalational nitric oxide(NO).A postoperative pulmonary hypertension crisis was suggested when the patient experienced recurrent symptoms after the termination of ***ﬁndings of a D-shaped left ventricle(LV),right-to-left PFO shunt and high tricuspid valve gradientﬁrmly established the *** was subsequently managed with continuous NO inhalation and sildenaﬁl,which rendered a satisfactory *** TOF and TAPVC could be at particular risk of developing pulmonary hypertension crisis,especially in the presence of MAPCAs due to possible remodeling of the pulmonary ***,a relatively non-compliant LV function and small left atrial size may exacerbate the risk of developing postcapillary pulmonary hypertension after TAPVC repair.A successful postoperative outcome calls for a meticulous preoperative analysis of the anatomical lesions,as well as careful monitoring.

In-line hydro-treatment of bio-oil vapor from fast pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass （hydro-pyrolysis of biomass） is studied as a method of upgrading the liquefied bio-oil for a possible precursor to green fuels. The nobel metal （Pt） and non-noble metal catalysts （Mo2C and WC） were compared at 500 ℃ and atmospheric pressure which are same as the reaction conditions for fast pyrolysis of biomass. Results indicated that under the pyrolysis conditions, the major components, such as acids and carbonyls, of the fast pyrolysis bio-oil can be completely and partially hydrogenated to form hydrocarbons, an ideal fossil fuel blend, in the hydro-treated bio-oil. The carbide catalysts perform equally well as the Pt catalyst regarding to the aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon formation （ca. 60%）, showing the feasibility of using the cheap non-noble catalysts for hydro-pyrolysis of biomass.

Recycling of Aluminum from Fibre Metal Laminates

Recycling of aluminum alloy scrap obtained from delaminated fibre metal laminates(FMLs) was studied through high temperature refining in the presence of a salt *** aluminum alloy scrap contains approximately mass fraction w(Cu) = 4.4%,w(Mg) = 1.1% and w(Mn) = 0.6%(2024 aluminum alloy).The main objective of this research is to obtain a high metal yield,while maintaining its original alloy *** work focuses on the metal yield and quality of recycled Al alloy under different refining *** NaCl-KCl salt system was selected as the major components of flux in the Al alloy *** different flux compositions were employed at NaCl to KCl mass ratios of 44:56 and 70:30 respectively,based on either the eutectic composition,or the European *** additives were introduced into the NaCl-KCl system to study the effect of flux component on recycling *** burning and oxidation loss of the alloying elements during re-melting and refining take place as the drawbacks of conventional refining process,the problems can be solved to a large extent by using an appropriate salt *** results indicate that Mg in the alloy gets lost when adding cryolite in the NaCl-KCl salt system,though the metal yield can reach as high as 98%.However,by adding w(MgF 2) = 5% into the NaCl-KCl salt system(instead of using cryolite) all alloying elements were well controlled to its original composition with a metal yield of almost 98%.
