BACKGROUND: Since hepatectomy has been widely performed, different operative manner, operating areas, and material in the residual cavity may be found ultrasonographi-cally near the resected area after the operation. In this study, we investigated the changes of focal ultrasonography at the resected area post hepatectomy and recognized the characteristic ultrasonographic images. METHODS: 176 patients whose ultrasonographic findings were studied in the residual area during the early and later periods after hepatectomy were retrospectively analyzed in terms of operative manner, operative area, and material in the residual cavity. RESULTS: There were absence of partial hepatic lobe or hepatic segment, focal anechoic area with thin wall or mixed mass at the resected area, and conformation of irregular high-echoic conglomeration at the resected area, cystic non-anechoic area, and mixed mass with irregularly thickened wall at the resected area, inconsistent internal echoes,and color Doppler twinking artifacts around the material and the residual cavity after curettage and aspiration. CONCLUSIONS: Focal ultrasonographic findings at the resected area after hepatectomy vary with different operative procedures, operative area, resection size, absence or existence of material, and kinds of material in the residual cavity.

A new linguistic granular model is proposed and the effect of its parameters on the output is analyzed. The design of the model consists of two stages: using conditional fuzzy clustering for information granular, and integrating all information granules to final output. The integrating tool is fuzzy integral based on fuzzy measure, and the generalization of fuzzy integral increases flexibility of the linguistic granular model greatly. A heuristic algorithm to determine the parameters in the fuzzy integral is used to realize the linguistic model. Two experiments verify the feasibility of the proposed model.

We examined the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on growth, fatty acid composition and enzyme activity of fatty acid oxidation in the liver of large yellow croaker. We divided 1600 fish (average initial weight 150 g) into 4 groups and reared them in 8 cages. Four dietary treatments were formulated to contain 0%, 1%, 2% and 4% (w/w) CLA, respectively. The fish were fed for 10 weeks ad libitum twice daily. We found that the dietary CLA had no effect on growth, biometric parameters and whole body proximate (P>0.05), but showed some significant effects on the fatty acid composition in both muscle and the liver. The activities of lipogenic enzymes were slightly depressed in fish fed with increasing levels of CLA when compared with control (P>0.05). Dietary CLA supplementation had no effects on liver lipid content, but significantly increased the contents of saturated fatty acids (SFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (P<0.05) and decreased monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) content in both muscle and the liver. Dietary CLA inclusion resulted in significant increases of the biologically active cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12 isomers in both tissues (P<0.05). The total accumulation of CLA was higher in the liver (3.83%, w/w) than in muscle (3.77%, w/w) when fed with 4% (w/w) CLA. This study demonstrates that large yellow croakers are capable of absorbing and depositing CLA and long-chain n-3 PUFA in the liver and muscle, showing that this species fed with CLA could be an important human food source for these healthful fatty acids.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a common chronic liver disease in china, of which diabetic fatty liver (DFL) accounts for a large proportion in clinic. DFL is a disease without specific clinical features and lacking of confirmatory laboratory tests, and the etiology of hepatic steatosis remains poorly understood. The aim of this paper was to explore the clinical characteristics and to determine associated risk factors in type 2 diabetes patients with fatty liver. METHODS: A total of 166 patients, 53 in DFL group and 113 in NDFL(diabetes without fatty liver) group participated in this study. Serum fasting blood glucose (FBG), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphate (AKP), gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured in both groups. And these variables were analyzed by using Student' s t test and logistic regression model. RESULTS:A progressive increase in the level of FBG, ALT, AST, AKP, GGT, TG( P<0.05) and a decrease of HDL-C(P<0.01)were observed from DFL group to NDFL group. And there was no statistical difference in the level of TC between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS:Dyslipidemia, dysglycemia and elevation of liver enzyme can be seen more frequently in the DFL patients than in the NDFL patients. The successive escalation of serum ALT and TG levels and the lower HDL-C level are the independent risk factors of DFL.

Modeling energy-minimizing curves have many applications and are a basic problem of Geometric *** this paper,we propose the method for geometric design of energy-minimizing B′ezier ***,the necessary and sufficient condition on the control points for B′ezier curves to have minimal internal energy is *** on this condition,we propose the geometric constructions of three kinds of B′ezier curves with minimal internal energy including stretch energy,strain energy and jerk *** some control points,the other control points can be determined as the linear combination of the given control *** compare the three kinds of energy-minimizing B′ezier curves via curvature combs and curvature plots,and present the collinear properties of quartic energy-minimizing B′ezier *** also compare the proposed method with previous methods on efficiency and ***,several applications of the curve generation technique,such as curve interpolation with geometric constraints and modeling of circle-like curves are discussed.

Pentastomid parasite Armillifer moniliformis, (A. moniliformis) is a pathogen causing human pentastomiasis. Pentastomiasis is a parasitic zoonosis, which has seldom been reported. When the number of armillifer parasites infecting a person is few or very few, the overwhelming majority of the cases are of asymptomatic or subclinical presentation and are generally discovered during autopsies or at surgical operation. A case of A. moniliformis, with heavy infection caused by nymphal pentastomids and possessing the clinical symptoms of chronic fever and abdominal pain, was admitted to the children’s hospital in hangzhou, china. As the first case in china, it is hereby reported.

The optimal model and simulating model of the Hanjiang cascade reservoirs operation with one day as its calculating period are established to coordinate the contradictions between power generating and shipping. The optimal model is solved by progressive optimality algorithm method adopting the theory of large system decomposing and coordinating. By analyzing the water allocation results obtained from six schemes, which are two cascades, four cascades and seven cascades joint operation considering shipping or not, the contradiction degree between power generating and shipping is investigated and some joint operation schemes are proposed.

BACKGROUND: Active immunotherapy has been successful in preventing many infectious diseases, and is being explored for its anti-tumor use. Purified antigens, peptides, gene-based systems and antigens contained in whole cells or cell lysates are used in specific active immunotherapy for cancer, known as cancer vaccines. Cancer vaccines do not directly kill tumor cells, but prime a specific humoral and/or cellular immune response against the tumor. Up to date, many kinds of cancer vaccines have been tested in the world and have shown their own advantages. Heat shock protein (HSP)-based cancer vaccine is one of the outstanding representatives. In this paper, we review recent advances in HSP-based cancer vaccines. DATA SOURCES: An English-language literature search was conducted using MEDLINE (1990-2005) on HSP, cancer vaccines and other related subjects. RESULTS: Several kinds of HSP-based cancer vaccines which have been explored worldwide, include tumor derived HSP-pepdde complex cancer vaccines, artificially reconstituted HSP-peptide complex cancer vaccines, HSPpeptide fusion protein cancer vaccines and HSP-based DNA cancer vaccines, etc. Many HSP-based cancer vaccines are being tested in clinical trials, and some are being tested in phase Ⅲ clinical trials at present. CONCLUSION: The available results in preclinical tests and clinical trials indicate that HSP-based cancer vaccines are promising in cancer therapy.
