In anticipation of the massive burden of neurodegenerative disease within super-aged societies, great efforts have been made to utilize neural stem and progenitor cells for regenerative medicine. The capacity of intrinsic neural stem and progenitor cells to regenerate damaged brain tissue remains unclear, due in part to the lack of knowledge about how these newly born neurons integrate into functional circuitry. As sizable integration of adult-born neurons naturally occurs in the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus, clarifying the mechanisms of this process could provide insights for applying neural stem and progenitor cells in clinical settings. There is convincing evidence of functional correlations between adult-born neurons and memory consolidation and sleep; therefore, we describe some new advances that were left untouched in our recent review.

The roles that top predators play in regulating the structure and function of ecosystems have long been controversial. This is particularly the case when predators pose adverse risks for human life and/or economic interests. The critique of literature on dingoes and their ecological roles in Australia provided by Allen et al. (2011) shows that top predators remain a potentially polarising issue. In opposition to Allen et al. we argue that these widespread patterns of species’ abundances, attributed to the effects of dingoes and evident at scales ranging from the foraging behaviour of individuals through to continental scale patterns of species abundances, constitute strong support for the mesopredator release hypothesis and provide evidence that dingoes benefit biodiversity conservation by inducing community wide trophic cascades. Harnessing the positive ecological effects of dingoes while at the same time minimising their impacts on agriculture is a major socio-political challenge in Australia [Current Zoology57 (5): 668–670].A response to Benjamin L. Microbial starch-binding domains (SBD) and granule-bound starch synthase I (gBSSI) are proteins which are accumulated in potato starch granules. The efficiency of SBD and gBSSI for targeting active luciferase reporter proteins to granules during starch biosynthesis was compared. gBSSI or SBD sequences were fused to the N- or C-terminus of the luciferase (LUC) gene, via an artificial Pro-Thr encoding linker sequence. The genes were introduced into an amylose-free (amf) potato mutant. It appeared that SBD was superior to gBSSI as a targeting sequence, mainly because the luciferase retained higher activity in the SBD-containing fusion proteins than in the gBSSI-containing ones.

The ecological environment of the Tibetan Plateau,known as the“Third Pole of the Earth”,is extremely sensitive and *** rapid societal development,environmental problems on the Tibetan Plateau have become prominent,as it is downwind of the emission sources from densely populated areas in the Middle East and South Asia,and the plateau has become one of the regions significantly affected by transboundary pollutant transmission(including black carbon,BC).The Tibetan Plateau has a long history of life and religious sacrifices,including aromatic plant-burning,which were recorded in the geologic record;therefore,BC can be used as a potential indicator to study the changes in religious *** this study,BC analysis was carried out based on the plausible dating framework tested by the AMS14C and137Cs methods on successive sediment cores from Lake Dalzong,an alpine lake in the gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture,northeast of the Tibetan *** was found that the BC in the lake sediments mainly accumulated through proximity wet deposition,and its content changes reflected the prevalence of surrounding religious *** study results indicate that the area of Lake Dalzong has experienced three periods of enhanced religious activities in the last millennium:1490-1565 CE(mid-Ming Dynasty),1810-1890 CE(late Qing Dynasty),and 1920 CE to the present(since the founding of the Republic of China),and the increase in religious activities on this centennial time scale is a response to concurrent social *** study is the first to extract information on the variation in religious activities from lake sediments on the Tibetan Plateau,which will help advance the study of the historical context of the Anthropocene on the Tibetan Plateau.

The productivity and quality in the turning process can be improved by utilizing the predicted performance of the cutting *** research incorporates condition monitoring of a non-carbide tool insert using vibration analysis along with machine learning and fuzzy logic approach.A non-carbide tool insert is considered for the process of cutting operation in a semi-automatic lathe,where the condition of tool is monitored using vibration *** vibration signals for conditions such as heathy,damaged,thermal and flank were acquired with the help of piezoelectric transducer and data acquisition *** descriptive statistical features were extracted from the acquired vibration signal using the feature extraction *** extracted statistical features were selected using a feature selection process through J48 decision tree *** selected features were classified using J48 decision tree and fuzzy to develop the fault diagnosis model for the improved predictive *** decision tree model produced the classification accuracy as 94.78%with five selected *** developed fuzzy model produced the classification accuracy as 94.02%with five membership ***,the decision tree has been proposed as a suitable fault diagnosis model for predicting the tool insert health condition under different fault conditions.

The myeloperoxidase (MPO) is an important microbicidal protein present at high concentration in the primary granule of mature granulocyte and its expression is regulated in both myeloidcell-lineage and premyelocytic-stagespecific manners. A better understanding of the underlying control mechanisms should provide insights into the temporal and co-ordinate regulation of the gene expression during granulopoiesis. We have identified its promoter by mapping the start(s) of transcription using various molecular approaches together with demonstrating the promoter function of the relevant DNA segment in a transient transfection reporter assay. Besides the major start of transcription mapped at g residue, 11 nucleotide upstream of the 3’ end of exon 0, the usage of that is specific to the MPO expressing cell lines, we have shown that irrespective of the MPO-expression status of the hematopoietic cells, transcription occurs broadly within a two kb region upstream of the 5’ proximity of the gene, and is largely terminated in nitron 2. These data support a model of the pre myelocytic-stage-specific MPO expression, the control of which is operated at initiation as well as elongation levels of transcription.
