Moderate anxiety in pregnant women does not compromise gestational immune-endocrine status and outcome, but renders mothers to be susceptible for diseased states development: A preliminary report

High anxiety levels during pregnancy commonly lead to clinical complications that affect the mother/child’s prenatal and perinatal health. Such complications are thought to result from combining deficiencies of the endocrine milieu and decreased immune tolerance that support pregnancy. It is yet unclear whether pregnant women subjected to moderate anxiety develop a similar state of endocrine deficits and compromised immune tolerance. Here, we evaluated this issue by monitoring endocrine and immune parameters during pregnancy in a sample of women suffering of moderate anxiety. The health of mothers and children, as well as the outcome of the pregnancies were also revised and recorded. Moderately anxious pregnant women present increments of state anxiety, serum cortisol and progesterone, but not of estradiol, as pregnancy progressed. No variations of leukocyte anti- and pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA expression were found along pregnancy. However, these pregnant women did show an increased frequency of gestational and perinatal complications, conditions that had no major consequences for their health and that of their children at birth. Hence, moderate anxiety renders the mother to be susceptible to develop diseased states during or by the end of pregnancy, while keeping the endocrine milieu and immune tolerance reasonably in place.

Response of Solanum tuberosum to Myzus persicae infestation at different stages of foliage maturity

Young leaves of the potato Solanum tuberosum L. cultivar Kardal contain resistance factors to the green peach aphid Myzuspersicae （Sulzer）（Hemiptera： Aphididae） and normal probing behavior is impeded. However, M. persicae can survive and reproduce on mature and senescent leaves of the cv. Kardal plant without problems. We compared the settling ofM. persicae on young and old leaves and analyzed the impact of aphids settling on the plant in terms of gene expression. Settling, as measured by aphid numbers staying on young or old leaves, showed that after 21 h significantly fewer aphids were found on the young leaves. At earlier time points there were no difference between young and old leaves, suggesting that the young leaf resistance factors are not located at the surface level but deeper in the tissue. Gene expression was measured in plants at 96 h postinfestation, which is at a late stage in the interaction and in compatible interactions this is long enough for host plant acceptance to occur. In old leaves of cv. Kardal （compatible interaction）, M. persicae infestation elicited a higher number of differentially regulated genes than in young leaves. The plant response to aphid infestation included a larger number of genes induced than repressed, and the proportion of induced versus repressed genes was larger in young than in old leaves. Several genes changing expression seem to be involved in changing the metabolic state of the leaf from source to sink.

词汇是语言中最为活跃的要素之一,尤其是颜色词。颜色词在生活中常常出现,在人类日常生活中很明显。由于颜色词的特殊性,汉语教学中常常关注颜色词教学。一方面汉语颜色词的象征意义很强,另一方面,西班牙语中颜色词的象征意义跟汉语中颜色词的象征意义有不同的地方。比如,在中国五千年的文化史中,白色是丧色,是不吉祥的意思,象征死亡和凶兆;相反,在西班牙语中,象征死亡和凶兆的颜色对应是黑色。假使老师问阿根廷中高级学生“白事”是什么意思,他们很有可能不知道。原因在于学生不知道白色具有“死亡”的文化内涵。所以在学习汉语颜色词的过程中要重视颜色词的文化内涵。本文以现代汉语词汇理论及对外汉语词汇教学为依据,通过分析阿根廷本土汉语学习者对汉语颜色词的掌握情况,使用颜色词文化内涵和意义教学的方法,分析阿根廷学习汉语的现状,尤其是在阿根廷学习颜色词的问题。本文主要是由以下几个部分构成:第一章绪论,论述了选题目的及意义、研究对象及范围、研究方法等。第二章对颜色词进行了集合式统计与分析。第三章分析了阿根廷颜色词教学存在的问题,并提出了相应建议。除了介绍阿根廷学习汉语机构的问题之外,本文还尽量补充了有利于阿根廷学生学习颜色词的建议等。第四章针对阿根廷学生的汉语颜色词的教学设计。本文在上述研究基础上最终提出针对阿根廷汉语学习者颜色词教学的方法与技巧,以期帮助母语为西班牙语的阿根廷学生更有效地习得汉语带颜色词的词语。第五章归纳了结论并指出了本文的不足。

Optimization of Proteins Recovery Process from Cheese Whey

The process to obtain a protein-containing ingredient from the remaining whey of Argentinean ＂Cuatriolo＂ cheese production was studied. In order to optimize the protein recovery, physical and chemical treatments were investigated. Two protocols with different sequences of application of heating step and acid addition were assayed in the presence and absence of fat and CaCl2. The results were evaluated by the yield, water retention and particle size. The results showed that the highest yield of the process （76.6%） and an increase in water retention （39.8 w/w） were achieved when the acid was added after boiled and incubated for 30 min at 90 ℃. In these working conditions, the presence of calcium shows a lower yield of recovery （72.8 %） and this behaviour correlates with a smaller particle size. Additionally, the presence of fat reduces the particle size and decreases the performance of the process （69.4%）. Thus, the yield of protein recovery is related to the particle size of the aggregates, i.e., the recovery of proteins increases when increase the particle size. The simultaneous presence of fat and CaCI2 increases the amount of water retained in the aggregated protein （47.62 w/w）. In conclusion, the process of aggregation in whey protein should take into account both the design of suitable protocol and the presence of fat and additives.

Comparative analysis of Solanum stoloniferum responses to probing by the green peach aphid Myzus persicae and the potato aphid Macrosiphum euphorbiae

Plants protect themselves against aphid attacks by species-specific de- fense mechanisms. Previously, we have shown that Solanum stoloniferum Schlechtd has resistance factors to Myzus persicae Sulzer （Homoptera： Aphididae） at the epidermal/mesophyll level that are not effective against Macrosiphum euphorbiae Thomas （Homoptera： Aphididae）. Here, we compare the nymphal mortality, the pre-reproductive development time, and the probing behavior of M. persicae and M. euphorbiae on S. stoloniferum and Solanum tuberosum L. Furthermore, we analyze the changes in gene expression in S. stoloniferum 96 hours post infestation by either aphid species. Although the M. euphorbiae probing behavior shows that aphids encounter more probing constrains on phloem activities-longer probing and salivation time- on S. stoloniferum than on S. tuberosum, the aphids succeeded in reaching a sustained ingestion of phloem sap on both plants. Probing by M. persicae on S. stoloniferum plants resulted in limited feeding only. Survival of M. euphorbiae and M. persicae was affected on young leaves, but not on senescent leaves of S. stoloniferum. Infestation by M. euphorbiae changed the expression of more genes than M. persicae did. At the systemic level both aphids elicited a weak response. Infestation orS. stoloniferum plants with a large number ofM. persicae induced morphological changes in the leaves, leading to the development of pustules that were caused by disrupted vascular parenchyma and surrounding tissue. In contrast, an infesta- tion by M. euphorbiae had no morphological effects. Both plant species can be regarded as good host for M. euphorbiae, whereas only S. tuberosum is a good host for M. persicae and S. stoloniferum is not. Infestation ofS. stoloniferum by M. persicae or M. euphorbiae changed the expression of a set of plant genes specific for each of the aphids as well as a set of common genes.

Introduction: Dental pathologies during pregnancy can compromise the prognosis of pregnancy and that of the mother. We report a first-study of cases of association of pregnancy and oral pathology supported in the Department of Odonto-stomatology of the National Hospital of Niamey. Objective: To report epidemiology, treatment and prognosis of dental origin cervicofacial cellulitis associated with pregnancy. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective and prospective study over 5 years from August 1st, 2013 to July 31, 2018 involving 21 pregnant women in the Odonto-stomatology Department of the National Hospital of Niamey (HNN). Results: During the study period, 585 patients were consulted in the Odonto-stomatology Department for cervicofacial tooth cellulitis of dental origin, 21 of them were pregnant women (3.39%). The average age of the pregnant patients was 29.57 years old, extrems 25 - 29 years old. The average delay before consultation was 28.76 days. Majority patients were rural inhabitants The pathology happened in the third trimester of pregnancy (52.39%), second trimester (33.33%), in first (14.29%). This pathology was observed among disadvantaged socioeconomic class as housewives (85.71%) and uneducated women (61.90%). The lake of oral hygien was the main cause of cellulitis. We noted a history of periodontal disease (52.38%), fever upper 38°C (61.90%), trismus (85.71%,) dysphonia (42.86%), odynophagia (23.81%), dysphagia (42.86%), dyspnea (33.33%), and cervicofacial swelling (100%.) The treatment was medico-surgical. The prognosis depended on the precocious treatment with 76.19% cured. But unfortunately 4 cases died (19.05%), still for birth (52.38%) and 9.52% abortion. Evaluation of the Anti-Trypanosoma cruzi Effects of the Antipsychotic Drug Levomepromazine

Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, is a relevant parasitic disease in the Americas. Current chemotherapy relies on Nifurtimox and Benznidazole, which present serious drawbacks, including high toxicity, low efficiency and the emergence of resistant strains. In the present work, the perspectives of levomepromazine, a tri-cyclic compound belonging to the family of phenotiazines with well-known properties as antipsychotics were evaluated as a potential anti-T. cruzi drug. We show that this drug is able to inhibit the proliferation of epimastigotes (IC50 = 0.41 ± 0.01 mM) and to interfere with the infection of the host cells (IC50 = 0.34 ± 0.01 mM). Interestingly, the treatment with levomepromazine affected the ability of metabolites such as glucose, proline and glutamate to fuel the recovery of epi-mastigotes after being submitted to metabolic stress. These findings prompt levomepromazine as a promising leader drug to obtain new trypanocidal activities.

Hydrolysis of Lactose： Estimation of Kinetic Parameters Using Artificial Neural Networks

The analysis of any kinetic process involves the development of a mathematical model with predictive purposes. Generally, those models have characteristic parameters that should be estimated experimentally. A typical example is Michaelis-Menten model for enzymatic hydrolysis. Even though conventional kinetic models are very useful, they are only valid under certain experimental conditions. Besides, frequently large standard errors of estimated parameters are found due to the error of experimental determinations and/or insufficient number of assays. In this work, we developed an artificial neural network （ANN） to predict the performance of enzyme reactors at various operational conditions. The net was trained with experimental data obtained under different hydrolysis conditions of lactose solutions or cheese whey and different initial concentrations of enzymes or substrates. In all the experiments, commercial 13-galactosidase either free or immobilized in a chitosan support was used. The neural network developed in this study had an average absolute relative error of less than 5% even using few experimental data, which suggests that this tool provides an accurate prediction method for lactose hydrolysis.

Modeling Environmental Susceptibility of Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Sites: A Case Study in São Paulo State, Brazil

The large excess of solid waste generated in cities is a result of population growth and economic development. Properly managing this municipal solid waste (MSW) is a challenge, mainly in underdeveloped and developing countries where financial concerns are an added problem. From the environmental point of view, a major issue is properly disposing MSW taking into consideration a wide range of factors, and working with different spatial data. In this study, we used geographic information system (GIS) to perform multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) conducted by analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The development of the environmental impact susceptibility model (EISM) for municipal solid waste disposal sites (MSWDS) applied to the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil considered factors such as geology, pedology, geomorphology, water resources, and climate represented by fifteen associated sub-factors. The results indicated that more than 82% of Sao Paulo’s territory is situated in areas with very low, low, and medium environmental impact susceptibility categories. However, in the remaining 18% of the state land area, 85 landfills are located in areas with high and very high environmental impact susceptibility categories. These results are alarming because these 85 landfills receive approximately 17,886 tons of MSW on a daily basis, which corresponds to 46% of all municipal solid waste disposed in Sao Paulo state. Therefore, decision makers, urban planners and policymakers could use the findings of the EISM towards mitigating the environmental impacts caused by MSWDS.
