The focus of this study was to investigate the wide use of Eucalyptus spp.,an exotic plant with high allelopathic ability,in the reforestation programs of urban parks in São Paulo City,Brazil,over the last *** understand the implications of using Eucalyptus *** the city’s parks,this study aimed to compare nutrient cycling and litter decomposition between a mixed composition of litter(i.e.,native and exotic species)and the litter of a single species(i.e.,Eucalyptus).To accomplish this,newly deciduous leaves were collected from two native and two exotic species that are commonly used in the afforestation of São Paulo as well as from Eucalyptus *** mixed composition of litter yielded a higher dry mass loss and return of macro-and micronutrients to the forest *** decomposition constant(k)values were 0.00322 and 0.00207 g g^(−1) day^(−1) for the mixed composition and Eucalyptus spp.,*** time required for decomposition of 50 and 95%of deciduous material was 215 and 931 days,respectively,and for the mixed litterfall 334 and 1449 days,respectively,for Eucalyptus ***,the mixed litter exhibited greater dry mass loss and nutrient cycling in an urban forest of São Paulo City,since dry mass losses as well as speed and amount of nutrients returned to the forest floor were relatively higher compared to Eucalyptus *** cycling via Eucalyptus *** was less efficient than mixed composition of litter,demonstrating that reforestation programs carried out in the twentieth century using only one species may have had little *** results of this work emphasize the fact that in urban reforestation programs the City of São Paulo must consider the environmental and biogeographic characteristics of the species employed and use high levels of biodiversity,since the city lies in a megadiverse biome.

Contraceptive Continuation, Pregnancy and Abortion Rate Two Years after Post Abortion Counselling

Objectives: To estimate the contraceptive use rate, pregnancy and abortion rate two years after post abortion counselling. Methods: In this current paper we conducted a cross-sectional study from September to December 2011 among women who participated of original randomized trial. In this study 118 women who had been allocated in the group that received the personalized contraceptive counselling and 103 women who had been allocated in the group that received standard counselling service were contacted by phone. The analyzed variables were the use of contraceptive methods, reasons for not using them, satisfaction in used method, and occurrence of pregnancy and abortion. Results: The pregnancy rate was lower in the personalized counselling group (p = 0.022), whereas abortion (p = 0.543) and contraceptive use rate (p = 0.270) had no difference between groups. The overall contraceptive use rate was high in both groups and the injectable method use rate was higher in personalized counselling group (p?= 0.004). Conclusions: Two years after the intervention the pregnancy rate was lower in personalized counselling group. The contraceptive use rate had no difference between the groups, except for the injectable which the use rate was higher in the personalized counselling group. These results could be encouraging because the intervention improved the uptake of one of the long-acting methods of contraception.

Does parity worsen diabetes-related chronic complications in women with type 1 diabetes?

AIM: To determine the relationship between parity, glycemic control, cardiovascular risk factors and diabetesrelated chronic complications in women with type 1 ***: This was a multicenter cross-sectional study conducted between December 2008 and December 2010 in 28 public clinics in 20 cities from the 4 Brazilian geographic regions. Data were obtained from 1532 female patients, 59.2% Caucasians, and aged 25.2 ± 10.6 years. Diabetes duration was of 11.5 ± 8.2 years. Patient's information was obtained through a questionnaire and a chart review. Parity was stratified in five groups: Group 0(nulliparous), group 1(1 pregnancy), group 2(2 pregnancies), group 3(3 pregnancies), group 4(≥ 4 pregnancies). Test for trend and multivariate random intercept logistic and linear regression models were used to evaluate the effect of parity upon glycemic control, cardiovascular risk factors and diabetes-related complications. RESULTS: Parity was not related with glycemic control and nephropathy. Moreover, the effect of parity upon hypertension, retinopathy and macrovascular disease did not persist after adjustments for demographic and clinical variables in multivariate analysis. For retinopathy, the duration of diabetes and hypertension were the most important independent variables and for macrovascular disease, these variables were age and hypertension. Overweight or obesity was noted in a total of 538 patients(35.1%). A linear association was found between the frequency of overweight or obesity and parity(P = 0.004). Using a random intercept multivariate linear regression model with body mass index(BMI) as dependent variable a borderline effect for parity(P = 0.06) was noted after adjustment for clinical and demographic data. Implementation of Quick HIV Tests in a Basic Health Unit in the Town of Santa Cruz-RN:Experiment Experienced by the PRO/PET-Saude Students

This article is about a report of the experiment of PRO/PET-Saúde students in the anti-HIV tests implementation in the town of Santa Cruz-RN. The goal is to report the importance and discuss the aspects of the moment experienced above inside the basic health unit in the town of Santa Cruz-RN. The experience occurred in the months from February to March 2014 and they were conducted within 8 hours per week. This way, it is observed that the period lived made possible great reflection about the making of the examination in the pre-natal appointment routines, cataloguing challenges which come up during their adequacy within the services. Lastly, the action developed aimed for the aggregation of an active learning process in the search for a critical sense in the experienced practice, allowing and prioritizing the basic health unit as a scope of reference and counter-reference in the public health service, increasing concrete answers and the needs of the population, guaranteeing an adequate service delivery and strengthening the SUS more and more. The insertion of students through the PRO/PET-Saúde-Rede Cegonha enables a reorientation of professional formation, from the integration between service and teaching.

This study was carried out in order to investigate the professionals’ feelings concerning the care in the Center for Children and Youth Psychosocial Care, as well as to evidence the advantages and difficulties of this work. This was a qualitative research guided by the social phenomenology of Al-fred Schütz. 13 health professionals from CAPSi between November 2008 and January 2009 were interviewed. We identified three categories: First feelings, difficulties of care and motivation for the care. The first category, awakened feelings, relates to the beginning of work with children and adolescents in CAPSi. The second motivation for the care, relates to the points highlighted as conducive to work. The third, difficulties in Caring for expressing the difficulties encountered in mental health of children and adolescents in CAPSi. We concluded that the care depends of knowledge, experience and service conditions in order to attend the needs of children and adolescents in CAPSi.

Identification of a Target Region for Specific Molecular Diagnosis of Human Papillomavirus Subtype 16

Objective: To identify a target region for molecular diagnosis from the E6 region of the Human papillomavirus (HPV). Method: This was a quantitative data research. The sample was composed of sequences from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), HPV subtype 16, E6 region, using the following search filters: viruses, genomic DNA/RNA. 3227 sequences were obtained, which were separated according to the country of origin. After selection, the total number of samples consisted of 22 sequences that were aligned in the Clustal/o program, available on the online platform at: https://***/Tools/msa/clustalo/ and reading it through the Jalview program to identify consensus regions. For the primer design, the FastPCR program was used and the data were attached to a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel 2010. Results: The consensus sequence among the countries was selected according to the consensus region for the primer design, called the target region, with 95 nucleotides. FastPCR analyzed the sequence and defined 10 pairs of primers, 5 forward and 5 reverse. The primers were selected according to the percentage CG/AT ratio (50%-60%) and the specific temperature of 58 °C, resulting in 3 primer pairs. The pairs were analyzed in the BLAST program, obtaining a 100% identification and query score, identifying other sequences of HPV 16, region E6. Conclusion: The use of a primer with greater specificity will lead to the specific diagnosis of the virus, making possible the early diagnosis and the most effective treatment.

Evaluation of the Implementation of a Low Emission Zone in Lisbon

The city of Lisbon, like many others in the EU region, introduced a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) as a tool for improving air quality in its city centre. This kind of emission reduction schemes is always controversial since it might lead to significant changes in the daily behaviours of its inhabitants. In order to evaluate the effects of the measure, an estimation of the impact of the introduction of the Lisbon LEZ was performed. Real traffic counting and fleet characterization combined with CORINAR-based emission inventory methodology allowed to estimate the impacts of three different scenarios applied to the “business as usual” condition (current vehicle fleet) ranging from “no circulation from non- compliant vehicles” to an “aggressive fleet renewal”. Results highlight the high percentage of atmospheric emissions of PM10 and NOx that might result from certain fleets like taxis and buses, especially because there was an emphasis in standardized/normalized estimations (emissions per 1000 vehicles) in order to allow different strategic approaches. The total reduction of PM10 emissions associated to each scenario vary between 6 ***-1 (scenario 2) and 8 ***-1 (scenario 1), or 25% and 34% less emissions. In terms of NOxemission reductions vary between 6 ***-1 (scenario 2) and 57 ***-1 (scenario 1), or 1% and 7% less emissions. The Lisbon LEZ is therefore much more efficient in reducing PM10 emissions compared to NOx. Major reduction in PM10 and NOx emissions are to be expected with a moderate intervention in the (relatively old) taxi fleet in Lisbon while for passenger cars the impact is limited. However in absolute terms and due to its urban mileage passenger cars should also continue being included in Lisbon LEZ. Simultaneously, an effort in the increase of dedicated lanes for public transport should be made, for further reductions in PM10 and NOx emissions.

Performance of alpha-defensin lateral flow test after synovial fluid centrifugation for diagnosis of periprosthetic knee infection

BACKGROUND The quantitative alpha-defensin enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)demands a prior synovial fluid centrifugation,whereas this processing is not routinely required prior to the alpha-defensin lateral flow *** To evaluate whether a prior synovial fluid centrifugation could lead the lateral flow performance to achieve comparable results to ELISA during periprosthetic joint infection(PJI)*** Fifty-three cases were included in this study:22 classified as PJI and 31 classified as aseptic cases,according to Musculoskeletal Infection Society 2013 *** fluid samples were submitted to centrifugation,and the supernatant was evaluated by ELISA and lateral flow *** sensitivity(SE),specificity(SP)and accuracy of each method were calculated as well as the agreement between those two *** In all of the 31 samples from aseptic patients,alpha-defensin ELISA and lateral flow tests showed negative results for *** the 22 infected patients,the lateral flow test was positive in 19 cases(86.4%)and the ELISA was positive in 21(95.5%).Sensibility,SP and accuracy were,respectively,86.4%(95%CI:65.1%-97.1%),100%(95%CI:88.8%-100%)and 93.2%(95%CI:82.8%-98.3%)for the lateral flow test and 95.5%(95%CI:77.2%-99.9%),100%(95%CI:88.8%-100%)and 98.1%(95%CI:89.9%-100%)for *** agreement of 96.2%between those methods were *** statistical difference was found between them(P=0.48).CONCLUSION Alpha-defensin lateral flow test showed high SE,SP and accuracy after a prior synovial fluid centrifugation,achieving comparable results to *** the lower complexity of the lateral flow and its equivalent performance obtained in this condition,a prior centrifugation might be added as a valuable step to enhance the PJI diagnosis.
