Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is a staple food produced mainly by small-scale subsistence farmers in Peru’s highland. Dry seeds (cv. Pasankalla) were irradiated with doses of 150 Gy, 250 Gy and 350 Gy. In the m1 generation, the germination process was delayed with increasing radiation dose;seedling height, root length and leaf development were most reduced at 250 Gy and at 350 Gy, no plants survived. In m2, the maximum spectrum of chlorophyll mutations corresponded to 150 Gy and the maximum frequency to 250 Gy. The chlorine mutation was predominant, followed by xantha. Changes were registered for branch number, pedicel length, plant height, life-cycle duration, stem and foliage colour, and leaf morphology at the two doses, with improvements in plant type. more than one mutation per plant was found, especially at 250 Gy. In m3, the same spectrum of mutations was observed, along with a valuable change in grain colour.

Suspended particles in the air are pollutants formed by diverse materials and sizes. As determined in multiple studies, particulate matter equal to or less than 2.5 μrn also called breathable fraction is the one that penetrates the inferior respiratory system. The present study shows the results of a sampling campaign of particulate matter Pm25 through 12 months at 3 sites： C33 （Clinic 33）, CIm （CImAV） and A VA （Avalos） at Chihuahua, mexico. The aim of this study was to determine the temporary concentrations of Pm25, the concentration of metallic elements： Al, As, Co, Cu, Sb, Se, Fe, mg, mn, Ni, Pb and Zn, as well as their possible sources. The three sites had the same trend in the time, where in autumn and winter the higher concentrations were found. The yearly averages on sites C33, CIm, and AVA were 9.91, 12.74 and 21.67 μg·m^-3, respectively, finding that AVA site overpasses the standard of 15 μg·m^-3. The application of factor analysis to the data allowed to identify four source categories： crustal, related with Al-Co-Fe-mg-mn, vehicular, related with： As-Cu-Sb-Se; mixed, related with： As-Cu-Sb-Se-Pb-Zn and industrial related with Ni-Pb.

Highly faceted geometries such as nanowires are prone toform self-formed features,especially those that are driven by *** these features is important in preventing their formation,understanding their effects on nanowire properties,or engineering them for *** elemental segregation lines that run along the radii of the hexagonal cross-section have been a common observation in alloy semiconductor ***,in GaAsP nanowires,two additional P rich bands are formed on either side of the primary band,resulting in a total of three segregation bands in the vicinity of three of the alternating *** bands are less intense than the primary band and their formation can be attributed to the inclined nanofacets that form in the vicinity of the *** formation of the secondary bands requires a higher composition of P in the shell,and to be grown under conditions that increase the diffusivity difference between As and ***,it is observed that the primary band can split into two narrow and parallel *** can take place in all six radii,making the cross sections to have up to a maximum of 18 radial segregation *** controlled growth,these features could be exploited to assemble multiple different quantum structures in a new dimension(circumferential direction)within nanowires.

The performances of the response surface methodology(RSm)in connection with the Box–Behnken,face central composite or full factorial design(BBD,FCCD or FFD,respectively)were compared for the use in modeling of the NaOH-catalyzed sunflower oil *** influence of temperature,catalyst loading,and ethanol-to-oil molar ratio(EOmR)on fatty acid ethyl esters(FAEE)content was *** three multivariate strategies were efficient in the statistical modeling and optimization of the influential process variables but BBD and FCCD realization involved less number of experiments,generating smaller costs,requiring less work and consuming shorter time than the corresponding *** three designs resulted in the same optimal catalyst loading(1.25%of oil)and EOmR(12:1).The reduced two-factorinteraction(2 FI)models based on the BBD and FCCD defined a range of optimal reaction temperature(25℃–75℃)and 25℃,respectively while the same model based on the 33 FFD appointed 75℃.The predicted FAEE content of about 97%–98.0%was close to the experimentally obtained FAEE content of about 97.0%–97.6%under the optimal reaction ***,the simpler BBD or FCCD might successfully be applied for statistical modeling of biodiesel production processes instead of the more extensive,more laborious and more expensive FFD.

Objective: To evaluate the trypanocidal, leishmanicidal and cytotoxic activity of Eugenia jambolana(E. jambolana) and Eugenia uniflora(E. uniflora) extracts and ***: The products were characterized by LC–mS. Antiparasitic assays were performed and cytotoxicity was evaluated in fibroblastos. In vitro assays were performed using spectrophotometric evaluation. All assays were performed in ***: The results showed that the extracts and the tannic fraction from E. jambolana inhibited 100% of the epimastigote lines. The ethanolic extract was the most efficient in all concentrations tested against the three parasite strains. In the cytotoxicity assay the flavonoid fraction showed low toxicity. All E. uniflora samples showed cytotoxicity at the highest concentration tested, but the extract showed no toxic effect on the fibroblasts at the lowest concentration. The flavonoid and tannic fractions were more efficient against Leishmania braziliensis promastigotes compared to the extract. However, the extracts and the tannic fraction were more effective against Leishmania infantum strains. The effect on epimastigote cells was observed at all concentrations tested, with all E. uniflora samples. However, the samples were more effective at the highest concentration, where there was inhibition in 100% of the Trypanosoma cruzi ***: The species E. jambolana and E. uniflora presented antiparasitic activity against all tested parasite strains, indicating that these species can serve as an alternative therapy as they were efficient in the tests performed. The E. uniflora extract and the E. jambolana flavonoid fraction presented a low cytotoxicity, opening the floor for new biological studies.

Degradation of duloxetine: Identification of transformation products by UHPLC-ESI(+)-HRmS/mS,in silico toxicity and wastewater analysis

Duloxetine(DUL), an antidepressant drug, has been detected in surface water and wastewater effluents, however, there is little information on the formation of its transformation products(TPs). In this work, hydrolysis, photodegradation(UV irradiation) and chlorination experiments were performed on spiked distillated water, under controlled experimental conditions to simulate abiotic processes that can occur in the environment and wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs). Eleven TPs, nine from reaction with UV light and two from chlorine contact, were formed and detected by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and nine of them had their chemical structures elucidated upon analyses of their fragmentation patterns in mS/mS spectra. The formation and degradation of the TPs were observed. The parent compound was completely degraded after30 min in photodegradation and after 24 hr in chlorination. Almost all TPs were completely degraded in the experiments. The ecotoxicity and mutagenicity of the TPs were predicted based on several in silico models and it was found that a few of these products presented more ecotoxicity than DUL itself and six TPs showed positive mutagenicity. Finally, wastewater samples were analyzed and DUL and one TP, possibly formed by chlorination process, were detected in the effluent, which showed that WWTP not only did not remove DUL, but also formed a TP.

Continuous room temperature nanowire lasing from silicon-integrated optoelectronic elements requires careful optimisation of both the lasing cavity Q-factor and population inversion *** apply time-gated optical interferometry to the lasing emission from high-quality GaAsP/GaAs quantum well nanowire laser structures,revealing high Q-factors of 1250±90 corresponding to end-facet reflectivities of R=0.73±*** using optimised direct-indirect band alignment in the active region,we demonstrate a well-refilling mechanism providing a quasifour-level system leading to multi-nanosecond lasing and record low room temperature lasing thresholds(~6μJ cm^(−2) pulse−1)for Ⅲ-Ⅴ nanowire *** findings demonstrate a highly promising new route towards continuously operating silicon-integrated nanolaser elements.
