BACKGROUND Pancreatic resection is still associated with high morbidity rates and delayed postpancreatectomy hemorrhage(PPH)is the most feared complication as it may lead to hemorrhagic shock or serious septic ***,endovascular approach represent safe and efficient method for minimally invasive management of extraluminal *** SUMMARY We describe four patients whose postoperative recovery after pancreatic resection was complicated by postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)and visceral artery *** all cases endovascular approach was utilized and it resulted in satisfactory *** discuss modern diagnostic and therapeutic approach in this clinical *** PPH is relatively uncommon,but it is a leading cause of surgical mortality after pancreatic *** monitoring and meticulous follow-up are required for all patients post-operatively,especially in the case of confirmed POPF,which is the most significant risk factor for the development of a *** as a diagnostic and therapeutic method may be an optimal first-line treatment for the management of delayed *** our experience,endovascular treatment for hemorrhagic complications of pancreatic resections has shown satisfactory results.

BACKGROUND Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency(AATD)is a codominant autosomal hereditary condition that predisposes patients to the development of lung and/or liver disease,and Pi*Z allele is the most clinically relevant *** To evaluate the impact of clinical parameters and AATD phenotypes,particularly the Pi*Z allele,in liver *** Cross-sectional cohort study including consecutive patients with AATD followed in Pulmonology or Hepatology *** included 69 patients,49.3%had Pi*MZ phenotype and 10.1%Pi**** age≥55 years,age at diagnosis≥41 years and AAT at diagnosisicted a nonalcoholic fatty liver disease fibrosis score(NFS)not excluding advanced fibrosis[area under the curve(AUC)=0.840,Piagnosis≥41 years predicted a fibrosis-4 index of moderate to advanced fibrosis(AUC=0.831,Pients with hypertension,type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM),dyslipidaemia,metabolic syndrome,and regular alcohol consumption were more likely to have a NFS not excluding advanced fibrosis(Pients with at least one Pi*Z allele and type 2 DM were 8 times more likely to have liver stiffness measurement≥7.1 kPa(P=0.040).CONCLUSiON Risk factors for liver disease in AATD included an age≥50 years,age at diagnosis≥41 years,metabolic risk factors,regular alcohol consumption,at least one Pi*Z allele,and AAT value at diagnosisithm for liver disease screening in AATD patients to use in primary care,selecting those to be referred to Hepatology consultation.

Mapping of groundwater potential zones in the drought-prone areas of south Madagascar using geospatial techniques

Autonomous agents are an important area of research in the sense that they are proactive, and include: goal-directed and communication capabilities. Furthermore each goals of the agent are constantly changing in a dynamic environment. Part of the challenge is to automate the process corresponding to each agent in order that they find their own objectives. Agents do not have to work individually, but can work with others and develop a coordinated group of actions. These agents are highly appreciated, when real time problems are involved, meaning that an agent must be able to react within a specific time interval, considering external events. Our work focuses on the design of a multi-agent architecture consisting of autonomous agents capable of acting through a goal-directed with: a) constraints, b) real-time, and c) with incomplete knowledge of the environment. This paper shows a model of collaborative agents architecture that share a common knowledge source, allowing knowledge of the environment;where we analyze it and its changes, choosing the most promising way for achieving the goals of the agent, in order to keep the whole system working, even if a fault occurs.

DNA metabarcoding the diet of Podarcis lizards endemic to the Balearic islands

Dietary studies are essential to unravel the functioning of ecosystems and ultimately to understand *** task,which at first may seem simple,becomes especially complex in those cases of omnivorous species with highly variable *** this regard,the emergence of next-generation DNA sequencing methodologies represents a powerful tool to address the *** we implement a high-throughput metabarcoding strategy based on the analysis of four molecular markers aimed at sequencing both mitochondrial(animal prey)and chloroplast(diet plants)genome fragments from fecal samples of two lizard species endemic to the Balearic Archipelago(Podarcis lilfordi and ***)obtained through non-invasive *** results allowed for the characterization of their diets with a high degree of taxonomic detail and have contributed a large number of new trophic *** reported diets are based mainly on the consumption of arthropods,mollusks and plants from a diversity of taxonomic orders,as well as carrion and marine *** analyses also reveal inter-and intra-specific differences both in terms of seasonality and geographical distribution of the sampled lizard *** molecular findings provide new insights into the trophic interactions of these threatened endemic lizards in their unique and isolated ecosystems.

BACKGROUND The first wave of coronavirus disease 2019(COViD-19)pandemic in Spain lasted from middle March to the end of June *** population was subjected to lockdown periods and scheduled surgeries were discontinued or reduced during variable *** our centre,we managed patients previously and newly diagnosed with *** established a strategy based on limiting perioperative social contacts,preoperative screening(symptoms and reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction)and creating separated in-hospital COViD-19-free pathways for non-infected *** also adopted some practice modifications(surgery in different facilities,changes in staff and guidelines,using continuously changing personal protective equipment…),that supposed new *** To analyse cancer patients with a decision for surgery managed during the first wave,focalizing on outcomes and pandemic-related *** We prospectively included adults with a confirmed diagnosis of colorectal,oesophago-gastric,liver-pancreatic or breast cancer with a decision for surgery,regardless of whether they ultimately underwent *** analysed short-term outcomes[30-d postoperative morbimortality and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection]and outcomes after 3 years(adjuvant therapies,oncological events,death,SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination).We also investigated modifications to usual *** From 96 included patients,seven didn’t receive treatment that period and four never(3 due to COViD-19).Operated patients:28 colon and 21 rectal cancers;laparoscopy 53.6%/90.0%,mortality 3.57%/0%,major complications 7.04%/25.00%,anastomotic leaks 0%/5.00%,3-years disease-free survival(DFS)82.14%/52.4%and overall survival(OS)78.57%/76.2%.Six liver metastases and six pancreatic cancers:no mortality,one major complication,three grade A/B liver failures,one bile leak;3-year DFS 0%/33.3%and OS 50.0%/33.3%(liver metastases/pancreatic carcinoma).5 g

Arid climates are characterized by a summer drought period to which animals seem ***,in some years,the drought can extend for unusually longer *** the effects of these current extreme weather events on biodiversity can help to understand the effects of climate change,as models predict an increase in drought ***,we examined the effects of“unusual”extended drought on soil invertebrate prey availability and on diet composition(based on fecal contents)and diet selection of a fossorial amphisbaenian,the checkerboard worm lizard Trogonophis *** data show interannual variations in summer drought *** abundance and diversity of soil invertebrates in spring were high,and similar to those found in a“normal”early autumn,after some rain had ended with the summer *** contrast,in years with“unusual”extended drought,abundance,and diversity of soil invertebrates in early autumn were very ***,there were seasonal changes in amphisbaenians’diet;in autumn with drought,prey diversity,and niche breadth decreased with respect to spring and autumns after some rain had *** did not eat prey at random in any season,but made some changes in prey selection that may result from drought-related restrictions in prey ***,in spite that amphisbaenians showed some feeding flexibility,their body condition was lower in autumn than in spring,and much lower in autumn with *** extended drought became the norm in the future,amphisbaenians might suffer important negative effects for their health state.
