Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects millions *** to population ageing,the incidence of AD is *** patients develop cognitive decline and dementia,features for which is known,requiring permanent *** poses a major socio-economic burden on healthcare systems as AD patients’relatives and healthcare workers are forced to cope with rising numbers of affected *** recent advances,AD pathological mechanisms are not fully ***,it is clear that the amyloid beta(Aβ)peptide,which forms amyloid plaques in AD patients’brains,plays a key *** 2 diabetes,the most common form of diabetes,affects hundreds of million people *** amyloid polypeptide(IAPP)is a hormone coproduced and secreted with insulin in pancreatic β-cells,with a key role in diabetes,as it helps regulate glucose levels and control adiposity and *** to Aβ,IAPP is very amyloidogenic,generating intracellular amyloid deposits that causeβ-cell dysfunction and *** is now clear that IAPP can also have a pathological role in AD,decreasing cognitive *** harms the blood-brain barrier,directly interacts and co-deposits with Aβ,promoting diabetes-associated *** can cause a metabolic dysfunction in the brain,leading to other diabetes-related forms of ***,here we discuss IAPP association with diabetes,Aβand dementia,in the context of what we designate a“diabetes brain phenotype”AD *** approach helps to set a conceptual framework for future IAPP-based drugs against AD.

Strain engineering,as a powerful strategy to tune the optical and electrical properties of two-dimensional(2D)materials by deforming their crystal lattice,has attracted significant interest in recent years.2D materials can sustain ultra-high strains,even up to 10%,due to the lack of dangling bonds on their surface,making them ideal brittle *** remarkable mechanical resilience,together with a strong strain-tunable band structure,endows 2D materials with a broad optical and electrical response upon ***,strain engineering based on 2D materials is restricted by their nanoscale and strain quantification *** this study,we have modified a homebuilt three-points bending apparatus to transform it into a four-points bending apparatus that allows for the application of both compressive and tensile strains on 2D *** approach allows for the efficient and reproducible construction of a strain system and minimizes the buckling effect caused by the van der Waals interaction by adamantane encapsulation *** results demonstrate the feasibility of introducing compressive strain on 2D materials and the potential for tuning their optical and physical properties through this approach.

Breast cancer(BC)is the most common malignant tumor and the main cause of death in women *** increased knowledge regarding tumor escape mechanisms and advances in immunology,many new antitumor strategies such as nonspecific immunotherapies,monoclonal antibodies,anticancer vaccines,and oncolytic viruses,among others,make immunotherapy a promising approach for the treatment of ***,these approaches still require meticulous assessment and readjustment as resistance and modest response rates remain important *** this article,we aim to summarize the most recent data available in BC immunotherapy to include the results of ongoing clinical trials and approved therapies used as monotherapies or in combination with conventional treatments.

Neutropenic fever in Lung Cancer:Clinical Aspects Related to Mortality and Antibiotic failure

Background and objectives:Lung cancer(LC)is the leading cause of cancer *** treated with chemotherapy are at risk of developing chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia(fN),a potentially life-threatening *** aims of this study were(1)to characterize fN admissions of patients with LC in a pulmonology department,and(2)to determine associations between patient profiles,first-line antibiotic failure(fLAf)and ***:Retrospective observational case-series,based on the analysis of medical records of LC patients that required hospitalization due to chemotherapy-induced ***:A total of 42 cases of fN were revised,corresponding to 36 patients,of which 86.1%were male,with a mean age of 66.71±9.83 *** patients had a performance status(PS)equal or less than 1,and metastatic disease was present in 40.5%(n=17).Respiratory tract infections accounted for 42.9%(n=18)of fN cases,and multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was the most isolated *** mortality rate was 16.7%(n=7),and the fLAf was 26.2%(n=11).Mortality was associated with a PS≥2(P=0.011),infection by a Gram-negative agent(P=0.001)and severe anemia(P=0.048).fLAf was associated with longer hospitalizations(P=0.020),PS≥2(P=0.049),respiratory infections(P=0.024),and infection by a Gram-negative(P=0.003)or multidrug-resistant agent(P=0.014).Conclusions:Lower PS,severe anemia,and infections by Gram-negative or multi-resistant agents seem to be associated with worse outcomes in fN patients.

The study of the propagation of infectious diseases in urban centers finds a close connection with their population's social characteristics and *** work performs a spatial analysis of dengue cases in urban centers based on the basic reproduction numbers,R0,and incidence by planning areas(PAs),as well as their correlations with the Human Development Index(HDI)and the number of *** analyzed dengue epidemics in 2002 at two Brazilian urban centers,Belo Horizonte(BH)and Rio de Janeiro(RJ),using PAs as spatial *** results reveal heterogeneous spatial scenarios for both cities,with very weak correlations between R0 and both the number of trips and the HDI;in BH,the values of R0 show a less spatial heterogeneous pattern than in *** BH,there are moderate correlations between incidence and both the number of trips and the HDI;meanwhile,they weakly correlate for ***,the absence of strong correlations between the considered measures indicates that the transmission process should be treated considering the city as a whole.

Vanadium mineralization at Los Chihuidos deposit of the Neuquén Basin is linked to the development of a redox front system related to the inflow of hydrocarbons into the red sandstone of the Huincul *** of hydrocarbons with oxidized red beds and connate water generated redox reactions where hematite was dissolved due to iron reduction resulting in the discoloration of the red *** the contact between oxidized red sandstone and reduced white sandstone,precipitation of specific mineral phases resulted in the V ore with minor amounts of *** the implementation of the redox interface,abundant V-montmorillonite and V-hematite precipitated at the more oxidizing conditions and Cu-V-corrensite-type at the more reducing conditions of the redox *** the redox front advanced with fluids constantly migrating into the reservoir,more reducing conditions were stablished,promoting chloritization and minor illitization with V-Cu incorporation and continuous upgrading of the *** ore mineralogy consists of clay minerals including V-bearing montmorillonite,Cu-V-corrensite-type,V-di-trioctahedral chlorite and Cu-tri-trioctahedral chlorite with minor V-illite-smectite mixed-layer minerals and associated secondary *** over illitization was favored due to high amounts of fe and Mg in detrital clasts and in connate fluids and by low K availability related to low amounts of detrital *** spatial transition of V and/or Cu bearing clay minerals observed through the mineralized redox front at Los Chihuidos deposit(kaolinite→smectite→illite/smectite→corrensite-type→di-trioctahedral-chlorite→tri-trioctahedral-chlorite)and the related variation of V-Cu concentrations in bulk rock are indicative of increasing pH and decreasing Eh of resident solutions from red to white sandstones during the hypogene mineralization *** influx of Cu-rich oxidized basinal brines precipitated main copper ore with Cu-sulfides in the white sandst
