Dif.erent protocols have been used f.r washing and disinf.cting leaf. vegetables in Brazilian f.od services, however its ef.ect on microbial reduction was barely studied. The aim of.this study was to evaluate the ef.ectiveness of.lettuce washing and disinf.cting protocols used by f.od services. The treatments evaluated were: washing in potable tap water (T1);washing and dipping in potable tap water (T2);washing with potable tap water and dipping in a solution of.sodium hypochlorite (200 ppm of.f.ee chlorine) f.r 15 min (T3);and 30 min (T4);washing with potable tap water and dipping in 2% vinegar solution (T5);and 20% vinegar solution (T6). Af.er the treatments, the samples were microbiologically evaluated to measure bacterial reductions. The microbial counts showed that the mean total mesophile reductions were: 0.64 log f.r T1, 0.75 log f.r T2, 2.06 log f.r T3, 2.46 log f.r T4, 1.68 log f.r T5 and 1.72 log f.r T6, and the mean total colif.rm reductions were: 1.11 log f.r T1, 1.09 log f.r T2, 2.29 log f.r T3, 2.35 log f.r T4, 1.6 log f.r T5 and 2.09 log f.r T6. Based on these results it can be concluded that protocols which used 200 ppm sodium hypochlorite f.r 15 to 30 min (T3 e T4), were the most ef.ective, f.llowed by treatment with 20% vinegar solution (T6). The latter method, however, turned the lettuce dark during the distribution period.

Tolerogenic dendritic cells （DCs） are widely studied f.r their possible use in the treatment of.inf.ammatory disorders, such as autoimmune diseases. One of.the obstacles f.r the use of.this cell-based therapy is the characterization of.drugs that are able to modulate DCs. We have previously shown that chloroquine （CQ）, an antimalarial agent, has the ability to modulate DCs towards a tolerogenic phenotype.1 These tolerogenic DCs are able to suppress the development of.experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis （EAE）, a T cell-driven mouse model of.human multiple sclerosis. In addition, several studies have proposed that nitric oxide （NO） plays a major role in the dif. f.rentiation of.regulatory T cells （Tregs） and the suppression of.Thl/Th17 cells.2＂3 However, little is known about the role of.DC-derived NO in the modulation of.inf.ammatory auto- immune responses. Thus, we aimed to evaluate whether NO plays a role in the tolerogenic activity of.CQ-treated DCs （CQ- DCs）. We f.und that CQ induces DC production of.NO and expression of.indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase （IDO）, as well as inducible nitric oxide syrtthase （iNOS）.

Objective: This study aims is to conduct a comparative analysis of.the clinical and sociodemographic prof.les of.individuals ref.rred to Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CLP) at a tertiary general hospital, specif.cally f.cusing on those seeking assistance due to suicide attempts (TS) versus CLP requests f.r other reasons (non-TS) between the years 2010 and 2020. Additionally, we aim to assess f.ctors associated with suicide attempts. Method: This retrospective controlled study involves a thorough examination of.medical records encompassing 3913 patients who received CLP services at the Hospital de Base (HB) and the Children and Maternity Hospital (HCM) of.São José do Rio Preto Medical School f.undation (f.nf.rme) f.om June 2010 to June 2020. The patient cohort is categorized into two groups: those with requests f.r SA (n = 677) and those with requests f.r other reasons. Results: In the SA group, as opposed to the non SA group, statistically signif.cant dif.erences were observed f.r gender (predominantly f.male), employment status (employed), marital status (single), and age (younger). Notably, a higher prevalence of.psychiatric antecedents (88.7%, n = 555 vs. 73.6% n = 2018) was f.und in the SA group, indicating a signif.cant association. The f.equency of.SA requests remained stable over the years. Among the SA group, mood disorders were the most prevalent (39%, n = 372), f.llowed by disorders related to substance use (21.2%, n = 202), and personality disorders (16%, n = 152). A history of.previous suicide attempts emerged as a crucial f.ctor f.r the recurrence of.SA (p-value ≤ 0.001). Exogenous intoxication emerged as the most f.equently employed method in attempts (79.6%, n = 539), particularly prevalent among patients diagnosed with mood disorders (41%, n = 314). Escherichia coli and other Proteobacteria are augmented and several other bacteria are diminished in Crohn’s (CD) disease patients’ intestine. This imbalance in bacterial species composition—termed dysbiosis—seems to be determinant of.CD manif.station. Since a great part of.intestinal bacteria are not cultivable, detection of.CD dysbiosis is accomplished by molecular tools, involving sequences analysis of.the 16SrRNA gene (16SrDNA) present in the patient’s clinical samples, which can be done by sequencing or electrophoresis in denaturing gels of.16SrDNA amplicons. By analyzing, by temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) and next generation sequencing of.16SV6-V8rDNA amplicons present in gram negative cultures f.om f.ur distinct clinical samples of.a control subject and a CD patient, this study demonstrates that both techniques were able to detect E. coli overgrowth and reduction in species richness in CD and that TGGE can discriminate sequences collectively labeled as “unclassif.ed” in 16SrDNA databases. Although TGGE per se does not identif. the sequences, the discriminatory power that it conf.rs represents valuable accessory inf.rmation to next generation DNA sequencing (NGS), and as such must be used as a NGS complementary tool.

Consequences of.Dif.erent Hysterectomy Techniques in Sexual Behavior——A Systematic Review

We conducted a systematic review of.the literature to determine the inf.uence of.dif.erent hysterectomy techniques in the sexual behavior of.women who underwent. We searched CENTRAL (The Cochrane Library), PubMed, SCOPUS, CINAHL and LILACS f.r studies between the years 1998 and 2010 that prospectively examined the sexuality af.er hysterectomy. Those that were not randomized controlled clinical trials were excluded. It was not available electronically, it was not related with the outcomes determined, it was not research, but publications bef.re 1998 and study which women realized chemotherapy and radiotherapy. f.om the 455 identif.ed studies, 9 met inclusion criteria. There was variability in how hysterectomies inf.uence in the sexual behavior. Most of.studies considered women who underwent vaginal hysterectomy had f.wer changes in sexual behavior. Sexual desire, intercourse f.equency and orgasm are the sexual aspects reported by women as more changes experimented af.er surgery. f.ndings f.om this study have implications f.r healthcare providers and policymakers. Each woman needs an individualized care plan that f.ts within the context of.her lif., and there are basic interventions that every woman who underwent hysterectomy should receive. This review draws attention to the need f.r dif.erent care plans f.r women who underwent dif.erent hysterectomy techniques.

Background: HPV is one of.the main sexually transmitted diseases, especially among the f.male population. This is an important etiologic agent f.r the development of.cervical intraepithelial lesions and cervical cancer. It is considered a public health problem, since young women are the most vulnerable group to this virus. Theref.re, it is important that the socioeconomic and demographic prof.le of.these women and their risk behaviors are known, so that it is possible to contribute in reducing inf.ction occurrences in the studied population. Objectives: To describe the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics and investigate the behavioral sexual-af.ective aspects of.risk of.adolescents and young students f.om Rio de Janeiro/Brazil when tackling HPV inf.ction. Methods: A group composed by 128 individuals susceptible to HPV—classif.ed as adolescent women and young women who are students at a high school in one unity of.the municipality of.Rio de Janeiro. The studied period was f.om May to November. A quantitative descriptive approach was used, in which data were highlighted in variables, divided into economic, demographic and behavioral characteristics. Data were entered into an Excel spreadsheet and organized by descriptive statistics perf.rmed by simple f.equency (%). Results: The age range of.the young women who have the possibility of.being inf.cted with HPV was f.om 15 to 25. The f.cused f.mily income among these young women was up to 2 minimum wages. The risk behavior detected in 37.5% of.adolescent women and in 43.8% of.young women is that these women never used condoms in sexual intercourse. Conclusion: The research showed that the studied women are vulnerable due to risk behavior practices that may lead to the virus acquisition. More f.cuses on educational actions of.preventive measures regarding HPV inf.ction should be emphasized, f.voring a lower incidence of.human papillomavirus inf.ction and cervical cancer.

Background: Adolescents who rely on social aid networks tend to be more socially competent and enjoy higher levels of.quality of.lif. than those who interact only with their own limited groups of.f.mily and f.iends. In this light, the present study aimed to measure social capital and analyse its possible relation to adolescents’ quality of.lif.. Methods: This is a cross-sectional analytical study with 363 adolescents f.om the Brazilian NGO. The instruments used included a short Portuguese version of.the Integrated Questionnaire to Measure Social Capital (SC-QI) f.om the World Bank and its abbreviated Portuguese version f.om the World Health Organization Quality of.Lif. Bref.(WHOQoL-Bref. used to measure the quality of.lif.. To measure social capital, the present study chose to use a segmentation analysis, along with the Two-Step Cluster method, applying Euclidian distance and the criteria of.centroid aggregation. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the scores of.WHOQoL-Bref.domains among the clusters, at a signif.cance level of.5%. Results: The segmentation analysis resulted in two clusters, with 160 (44.1%) adolescents classif.ed as Low Social Capital (LSC) and 178 (49%) classif.ed as High Social Capital (HSC). Participation in activities f.r the good of.the community (p f.erences between people in the community (p = 0.002), and number of.community meetings (p decisive variables f.r determining the separation of.the clusters. When quality of.lif. among the newly f.rmed clusters was compared, the highest average score in the HSC cluster was f.und in the Psychological Domain (75.4 ± 11.9), whereas in the LSC cluster, the highest average score was f.und in the Physical Domain (74.6 ± 12.6). Lower quality of.lif. scores was f.und in the environmental domain f.r both the LSC clusters (51.3 ± 14.0) and the HSC clusters (54.7 ± 15.5). BACKGROUND Patients with cirrhosis are at risk of.cirrhotic cardiomyopathy,with resulting cardiac dysf.nction and exercise *** minute walking test(6MWT)assesses f.nctional status and predicts morbidity and mortality in cardiopulmonary *** To determine if.it associates with mortality by analyzing 6MWT perf.rmance in patients with liver *** A cohort of.106 cirrhotic patients was evaluated in the outpatient setting with echocardiogram and 6MWT and f.llow up f.r one year to document hepatic decompensation and *** distance in meters was recorded at the end of.6 min(6MWD).RESULTS This cohort had a mean age of.51 years and 56%male;patients were staged as Child A in 21.7%,B 66%and C 12.3%.Walk distance inversely correlated with Child scores,and was signif.cantly reduced as Child stages *** who died(10.4%)showed shorter mean 6MWD(P=0.006).Low 6MWD was an independent predictor of.mortality(P=0.01).CONCLUSION 6MWT is a noninvasive inexpensive test whose result is related to Child scores and *** is usef.l to identif. patients with liver cirrhosis at high risk of.mortality f.r closer monitoring and potential early intervention.

f.om 2003 to 2009 in Brazilian municipalities of.over 60,000 inhabitants, buses accounted f.r more than 25% of.urban trips. This trend is not expected to change in the medium term. Worldwide, buses rely on petroleum diesel as f.el. In Brazil, alternative f.els such as biodiesel, natural gas and ethanol are available and the choice among them should depend on the assessment of.the entire lif. cycle of.such f.els. This paper uses a Lif. Cycle Inventory, which is essential to the implementation of.a Lif. Cycle Assessment, to assess six energy alternatives: petroleum diesel, biodiesel, petroleum diesel with 5% of.biodiesel, compressed natural gas, additivated hydrous ethanol and dual-f.el system composed by petroleum diesel with 5% of.biodiesel and compressed natural gas. In saving total energy consumption, pure petroleum diesel or mixed with 5% biodiesel and dual-f.el systems stand out, in that order. If.renewable energy use and net carbon dioxide emissions reduction are the goals, ethanol and biodiesel should be given pref.rence. The addition of.5% of.biodiesel in petroleum diesel increases the share of.renewable energy in the supply chain of.petroleum diesel by 47.5% with an increase of.0.58% in total energy consumption and a reduction of.3.8% in net CO2 emissions during the lif. cycle. In the case of.biodiesel, the addition of.5% of.biodiesel in petroleum diesel increases the share of.renewable energy in the supply chain by 51.15% with an increase of.0.03% in the total energy consumption and a decrease of.7% in net CO2 emissions in the lif. cycle. The use of.5% of.biodiesel in petroleum diesel does not signif.cantly af.ect the use of.renewable energy (+0.69%) or total energy consumption (+0.04%) in ethanol supply chain, which already shows a great use of.renewable energy input. However, a decrease of.9.29% in the net CO2 emissions in the supply chain occurs, which reaches 5.28% in the lif. cycle.
