The focus of this study was to investigate the wide use of Eucalyptus spp.,an exotic plant with high allelopathic ability,in the reforestation programs of urban parks in São Paulo City,Brazil,over the last *** understand the implications of using Eucalyptus *** the city’s parks,this study aimed to compare nutrient cycling and litter decomposition between a mixed composition of litter(i.e.,native and exotic species)and the litter of a single species(i.e.,Eucalyptus).To accomplish this,newly deciduous leaves were collected from two native and two exotic species that are commonly used in the afforestation of São Paulo as well as from Eucalyptus *** mixed composition of litter yielded a higher dry mass loss and return of macro-and micronutrients to the forest *** decomposition constant(k)values were 0.00322 and 0.00207 g g^(−1) day^(−1) for the mixed composition and Eucalyptus spp.,*** time required for decomposition of 50 and 95%of deciduous material was 215 and 931 days,respectively,and for the mixed litterfall 334 and 1449 days,respectively,for Eucalyptus ***,the mixed litter exhibited greater dry mass loss and nutrient cycling in an urban forest of São Paulo City,since dry mass losses as well as speed and amount of nutrients returned to the forest floor were relatively higher compared to Eucalyptus *** cycling via Eucalyptus *** was less efficient than mixed composition of litter,demonstrating that reforestation programs carried out in the twentieth century using only one species may have had little *** results of this work emphasize the fact that in urban reforestation programs the City of São Paulo must consider the environmental and biogeographic characteristics of the species employed and use high levels of biodiversity,since the city lies in a megadiverse biome.

Objectives: To estimate the contraceptive use rate, pregnancy and abortion rate two years after post abortion counselling. Methods: In this current paper we conducted a cross-sectional study from September to December 2011 among women who participated of original randomized trial. In this study 118 women who had been allocated in the group that received the personalized contraceptive counselling and 103 women who had been allocated in the group that received standard counselling service were contacted by phone. The analyzed variables were the use of contraceptive methods, reasons for not using them, satisfaction in used method, and occurrence of pregnancy and abortion. Results: The pregnancy rate was lower in the personalized counselling group (p = 0.022), whereas abortion (p = 0.543) and contraceptive use rate (p = 0.270) had no difference between groups. The overall contraceptive use rate was high in both groups and the injectable method use rate was higher in personalized counselling group (p?= 0.004). Conclusions: Two years after the intervention the pregnancy rate was lower in personalized counselling group. The contraceptive use rate had no difference between the groups, except for the injectable which the use rate was higher in the personalized counselling group. These results could be encouraging because the intervention improved the uptake of one of the long-acting methods of contraception.

This article is about a report of the experiment of PRO/PET-Saúde students in the anti-HIV tests implementation in the town of Santa Cruz-RN. The goal is to report the importance and discuss the aspects of the moment experienced above inside the basic health unit in the town of Santa Cruz-RN. The experience occurred in the months from February to March 2014 and they were conducted within 8 hours per week. This way, it is observed that the period lived made possible great reflection about the making of the examination in the pre-natal appointment routines, cataloguing challenges which come up during their adequacy within the services. Lastly, the action developed aimed for the aggregation of an active learning process in the search for a critical sense in the experienced practice, allowing and prioritizing the basic health unit as a scope of reference and counter-reference in the public health service, increasing concrete answers and the needs of the population, guaranteeing an adequate service delivery and strengthening the SUS more and more. The insertion of students through the PRO/PET-Saúde-Rede Cegonha enables a reorientation of professional formation, from the integration between service and teaching.

AIM To investigate the contribution of polymorphisms in the CYP1A1, CYP2E1 and EPHX1 genes on sporadic colorectal cancer(SCRC) risk. METHODS Six hundred forty-one individuals(227 patients with SCRC and 400 controls) were enrolled in the study. The variables analyzed were age, gender, tobacco and alcohol consumption, and clinical and histopathological tumor parameters. The CYP1A1 *2A, CYP1A1 *2C CYP2E1 *5B and CYP2E1 *6 polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). The EPHX1 Tyr113 His, EPHX1 His139 Arg and CYP1A1 *2C polymorphisms were detected by real-time PCR. Chisquared test and binary logistic regression were used in the statistical analysis. Haplotype analysis was conducted using the Haploview program, version *** Age over 6 2 years was a risk factor for SCRC development(OR = 7.54, 95%CI: 4.94-11.50, P < 0.01). Male individuals were less susceptible to SCRC(OR = 0.55, 95%CI: 0.35-0.85, P < 0.01). The CYP2E1*5B polymorphism was associated with SCRC in the codominant(heterozygous genotype: OR = 2.66, 95%CI: 1.64-4.32, P < 0.01), dominant(OR = 2.82, 95%CI: 1.74-4.55, P < 0.01), overdominant(OR = 2.58, 95%CI: 1.59-4.19, P < 0.01), and log-additive models(OR = 2.84, 95%CI: 1.78-4.52, P < 0.01). The CYP2E1*6 polymorphism was associated with an increased SCRC risk in codominant(heterozygous genotype: OR = 2.81, 95%CI: 1.84-4.28, P < 0.01; homozygous polymorphic : OR = 7. 3 2, 9 5 % C I : 1.85-28.96, P < 0.01), dominant(OR = 2.97, 95%CI: 1.97-4.50, P < 0.01), recessive(OR = 5.26, 95%CI: 1.35-20.50, P = 0.016), overdominant(OR = 2.64, 95%CI: 1.74-4.01, P < 0.01), and log-additive models(OR = 2.78, 95%CI: 1.91-4.06, P < 0.01). 气候变化是当前社会关注的一个问题,其后果在全球范围内的感知日渐强烈。除了国家领土和社区外,水坝等大型基础设施也可能容易受到气候变化的影响,且需要能够抵御相关影响。因此,在批准这些大型基础设施项目时,应对与其相关的气候变化风险进行全面评估。一些国际指南建议将气候变化风险评估纳入环境影响评价(EIA)过程。若干国家相应更新的EIA法规也体现了这一点。基于对过去20年发表的科学文献的系统回顾,本文探讨了科学界如何将气候变化风险纳入大坝环境影响评价中。调查结果表明,EIA在应对气候变化风险方面的潜力得到了广泛认可。然而,针对风险评估分析如何被纳入大坝EIA当前实践的系统研究却很少。这一差距表明围绕该主题具有研究潜力和研究机会。

Acrylic Customized X-Ray Positioning Stent for Prospective Bone Level analysis in Long-Term Clinical Implant Studies

Objectives: This paper describes a technique to produce individualized X-ray positioning devices for intraoral digital imaging of dental implants with long-term stability. Materials and Methods: An X-ray positioning device was built for Gendex? Visualix? eHD sensor, using the Dentsply rinn XCP-DS? system individualized by the incorporation of the bite piece within an acrylic stent to perform successive standardized radiographs to 16 patients. X-ray tube stabilization was achieved with polivinylsiloxane. Series of 3 radiographs were taken to each patient in different moments. Specific linear measurements as the implant diameter (mesio-distal width) and the height between consecutive threads (thread pitch) were made to all radiographs to determine the reproducibility and accuracy of the procedure. Results: The intraclass correlation coefficient for the mesio-distal width was 0.964 [(0.920 - 0.986) 95% CI] (p 0.00156 mm for the test value of 3.3 (p = 0.9), -0.00026 mm for 0.8 (p = 0.96) and 0.0124 for 4.125 (p = 0.72), respectively, after the application of a magnification correction factor. Conclusion: The device produced reproducible images in different moments and was suitable for comparative clinical examinations of marginal bone as it was convenient to perform reliable linear measurements.

Background: Cystinosis is a multisystemic autosomal recessive deficiency of the lysosomal membrane transporter protein (cystinosin) caused by mutations in CTNS gene. Objective: This study summarizes the Portuguese experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with this rare disease over the past few years and reports recurrent mutations in the CTNS gene. Methods: Unrelated patients from different pediatric and adult hospitals all over Portugal with non-nephrotic proteinuria, hypercalciuria, hypokalemia impaired proximal reabsorption of amino acids, glycosuria and hypophosphatemia, suggestive of a Fanconi syndrome and ocular problems, were studied. Intra-leukocyte cystine levels were determined and molecular analysis was performed, to determine the presence or absence of the 57-kb deletion in CTNS, followed by direct sequencing of the coding exons of CTNS. Results: From 1998 to 2017, twenty-one cystinotic patients were biochemically diagnosed. From the remaining seventeen (four deceased), eleven were studied for CTNS gene. Five out of eleven patients were homozygous for the 57-kb deletion (10/22;45.5%), and other five were compound heterozygous for this variant (15/22;68.2%). The other mutations found were p.Q128X (c.721 C>T;2/22), p.S139F (c.755 C>T;4/22) and c.18-21delGACT (p.T7FfsX7;1/22). All of these seventeen cystinotic patients are in treatment. Approximately 84% are adults, 16% are young children, and 54.5% are kidney transplant recipient. Conclusions: The authors would like to emphasize the importance of first screening for the 57-kb deletion since it is very common in our population. This genetic study is the first in our country and it could be the basis for future genetic counseling in Portuguese population.

Humankind is responsible for conditioning the distribution of species, including the African elephant. From its great physical form to its fascinating social behaviour, Loxodonta africana can trigger an admiration in some and be undervalued by others, often ending up being a victim of human activities. Increasingly, the apparent impossibility of the coexistence of these two species represents a problem for the conservation of the large African mammal. Here it was reviewed the published bibliography about the African savannah elephant (L. africana), between July 2015 and December 2019. The Web of Science (WoS) database enabled the search for the words “Loxodonta africana”. From this research, we obtained 310 articles, 149 of them were analysed. Elephants have characteristics that define its uniqueness that are constantly reported, such as: its cognition and extraordinary memory, factors that influence its movements and its distribution, its specific vocalization and the strong dependence on social connections. Threats to the conservation of the species and the urgency of interventions are also an important subject of discussion.
