Growth-controlled synthesis of polymer-coated colloidal-gold nanoparticles using electrospray-based chemical reduction

in this study,the controlled nucleation and growth of gold nanoparticles(GNPs)were investigated using a self-repelled mist in a liquid chemical reaction *** electrospray-based chemical reduction method was conducted in the aqueous region and at room temperature to synthesize the polymeric-stabilized gold *** electrospray technique was used to atomize a hydrogen tetrachloraurate(iii)(HAuCl4)precursor solution into electrostatically charged *** atomized droplets were dispersed in an aqueous reaction bath containing L-ascorbic acid as a reducing agent and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)as a *** effect of the electrospray parameters,specifically the flow rate and electrospray droplet size,as well as the reaction conditions such as the concentration of reactants,pH,and stabilizer(PVP),were *** mean diameter of the GNPs increased from around 4 to 9 nm with an increase in the electrospray flow rate,droplet size,and current passing through the electrospray *** and monodispersed GNPs were synthesized at a relatively high flow rate of 2 mL/h and a moderate concentration of 2 mM of precursor *** smallest-sized GNP with a high monodispersity was obtained in the reaction bath at a high pH of 10.5 and in the presence of *** is expected that continuous and mass production of the engineered GNPs and other noble metal nanoparticles could be established for scaling up nanoparticle production via the proposed electrospray-based chemical reduction method.

An easy,accurate and efficient procedure to create forest fire risk maps using the SEXTANTE plugin Modeler

To prevent, detect, and protect against forest fires, forest personnel need to define rules for determining forest fire risk. in Portugal, all municipalities must annually produce forest fire risk （FFR） maps. To produce more reliable FFR maps more easily, we developed an open source model using the Modeler plugin of SEXTANTE in the program QGiS version 2.0 Dufour. The model provides all the maps involved in the FFR model （susceptibility map, hazard map, vulnerability map, economic value map, and potential loss map） and was produced according to Portuguese Forest Authority＇s （AFN, Autoridade Florestal Nacional） rules for determining the FFR. This model was tested for the Portuguese municipality Santa Maria da Feira, where 40 % of the total municipality area falls in the category ＂very high＂ or ＂high＂ fire risk. The ＂very high＂ fire risk area is mainly classified as broad-leaved forest and has the steepest slopes （〉15 %）. The distance of burned areas to roads was also analyzed; the proportion of burned areas increased with increasing distance to the main roads. in addition, 92.6 % of the ＂high＂ and ＂very high＂ risk zones were located in areas with lower elevation. These results confirmed that forest fire is strongly influenced not only by environmental factors but also by anthropogenic factors. The procedure implemented here was compared with our open source application already available in QGiS and also to the same procedure implemented in GiS pro- prietary software. Although the results were obviously the same, the model developed here presents several advan- tages over the other two approaches. Besides being faster, it is easy to change the model parameters according to user needs （i.e., to the rules of different countries）, and can be modified and adapted to other variables and other areas to create risk maps for different natural phenomena （e.g., floods, earthquakes, landslides）. in this paper, we present a new hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm for unconstrained optimization. This method is a convex combination of Liu-Storey conjugate gradient method and Fletcher-Reeves conjugate gradient method. We also prove that the search direction of any hybrid conjugate gradient method, which is a convex combination of two conjugate gradient methods, satisfies the famous D-L conjugacy condition and in the same time accords with the Newton direction with the suitable condition. Furthermore, this property doesn't depend on any line search. Next, we also prove that, moduling the value of the parameter t,the Newton direction condition is equivalent to Dai-Liao conjugacy *** strong Wolfe line search conditions are *** global convergence of this new method is *** comparisons show that the present hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm is the efficient one.

On the Semiprimitivity and Semiprimality Problems for Partial Smash Products

in this paper we discuss about the semiprimitivity and the semiprimality of partial smash products. Let H be a semisimple Hopf algebra over a field k and let A be a left partial H-module algebra. We study the H-prime and the H-Jacobson radicals of A and their relations with the prime and the Jacobson radicals of A#H, respectively. in particular, we prove that if A is H-semiprimitive, then A^fH is semiprimitive provided that all irreducible representations of A are finite-dimensional, or A is an affine Pi-algebra over k and k is a perfect field, or A is locally finite. Moreover, we prove that A=#=H is semiprime provided that A is an H-semiprime Pi-algebra, generalizing to the setting of partial actions the known results for global actions of Hopf algebras.

Glial proliferation:For the last decades,glial cells have been wrongly believed to have a mere passive supporting role for ***,this notion has clearly changed and it is now admitted that these cells are essential for the correct development and regulation of the nervous *** cell population are commonly subdivided in astrocytes,oligodendrocytes and *** the development,neural stem cells(NSCs)(called neuroepithelial progenitor cells or NPCs)transform into radial glia,the primary progenitor cells for neurons,astrocytes and oligodendrocytes(Zuchero and Barres,2015).Microglial cells,however,derive from a mesenchymal precursor infiltration,meaning that during brain development,precursors generated in the bone narrow invade the nervous parenchyma and differentiate into microglial cells(Zuchero and Barres,2015).This proliferative capacity is preserved in the adult mammalian brain,and neurogenic NSCs are stored in two restricted regions of the central nervous system(CNS),the forebrain subventricular zone(SVZ)and the hippocampal dentate gyrus(subgranular zone).These cells continue to produce neurons and glial cells during the adulthood,being activated after certain signals and leaving the quiescent state(Urbán et al.,2019).This process,in which glial progenitor cells differentiate into mature glia during development and in the adult brain to maintain and regulate brain function,is called gliogenesis(Ardaya et al.,2020).

Endoscopic ultrasound elastography strain histograms in the evaluation of patients with pancreatic masses

AiM: To investigate the accuracy of the strain histogram endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)-based method for the diagnostic differentiation of patients with pancreatic masses. METHODS: in a prospective single center study, 149 patients were analyzed, 105 with pancreatic masses and 44 controls. Elastography images were recorded using commercially available ultrasound equipment in combination with EUS linear probes. Strain histograms(SHs) were calculated by machine integrated software in regions of interest and mean values of the strain histograms were expressed as Mode 1(over the mass) and Mode 2(over an adjacent part of pancreatic tissue, representing the reference area). The ratio between Mode 2 and Mode 1 was calculated later, representing a new variable, the strain histogram ratio. After the final diagnosis was established, two groups of patients were formed: a pancreatic cancer group with positive cytology achieved by fine needle aspiration puncture or histology after surgery(58 patients), and a massforming pancreatitis group with negative cytology and follow-up after 3 and 6 mo(47 patients). All statistical analyses were conducted in SPSS 14.0(SPSS inc., Chicago, iL, United States).RESULTS: Results were obtained with software for strain histograms with reversed hue scale(0 represents the hardest tissue structure and 255 the softest). Based on the receiver operating characteristics(ROC) curve coordinates, the cut-off point for Mode 1 was set at the value of 86. Values under the cut-off point indicated the presence of pancreatic malignancy. Mode 1 reached 100% sensitivity and 45% specificity with overall accuracy of 66%(95%Ci: 61%-66%) in detection of pancreatic malignant tumors among the patients with pancreatic masses. The positive and negative predictive values were 54% and 100%, respectively. The cut-off for the new calculated variable, the SH ratio, was set at the value 1.153 based on the ROC curve coordinates.
