Responsible research and innovation,or RRi,is a concept that aims to bring together society and science for a better *** are six key elements of RRi:public engagement,gender equality,science education,open access,ethics and *** Education institutions and Responsible Research and innovation(HEiRRi)project aimed to bring the concept of RRi into the educational *** state-of-the-art review of good practices,HEiRRi team developed 10 training programmes on RRi for different higher education institution educational levels,including a summer school and a massive open online course(MOOC).We conducted pilot of the trainings and evaluated participants’*** with HEiRRi training programmes on responsible research and innovation was high,both for participants and for the trainers,and trainings raised awareness of ***’feedback was used to identify areas that need improvement and provided for recommendations for final versions of the HEiRRi training *** order to equip researchers with skills to recognize and apply RRi values,RRi should be included in their *** training is suitable for a range of different disciplines,including forensic science,and is free to use and adjust for specific contexts(available from:https://***/heirri-training-programmes).

Treatment of spinal cord injury with biomaterials and stem cell therapy in non-human primates and humans

Spinal cord injury results in the loss of sensory,motor,and autonomic functions,which almost always produces permanent physical ***,in the search for more effective treatments than those already applied for years,which are not entirely efficient,researches have been able to demonstrate the potential of biological strategies using biomaterials to tissue manufacturing through bioengineering and stem cell therapy as a neuroregenerative approach,seeking to promote neuronal recovery after spinal cord *** of these strategies has been developed and meticulously evaluated in several animal models with the aim of analyzing the potential of interventions for neuronal repair and,consequently,boosting functional *** the majority of experimental research has been conducted in rodents,there is increasing recognition of the importance,and need,of evaluating the safety and efficacy of these interventions in non-human primates before moving to clinical trials involving therapies potentially promising in *** article is a literature review from databases(PubMed,Science Direct,Elsevier,Scielo,Redalyc,Cochrane,and NCBi)from 10 years ago to date,using keywords(spinal cord injury,cell therapy,non-human primates,humans,and bioengineering in spinal cord injury).From 110 retrieved articles,after two selection rounds based on inclusion and exclusion criteria,21 articles were ***,this review arises from the need to recognize the experimental therapeutic advances applied in non-human primates and even humans,aimed at deepening these strategies and identifying the advantages and influence of the results on extrapolation for clinical applicability in humans.

Effect of arsenic on tolerance mechanisms of two plant growth-promoting bacteria used as biological inoculants

Bacterial ability to colonize the rhizosphere of plants in arsenic（As） contaminated soils is highly important for symbiotic and free-living plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria（PGPR）used as inoculants, since they can contribute to enhance plant As tolerance and limit metalloid uptake by plants. The aim of this work was to study the effect of As on growth,exopolysaccharide（EPS） production, biofilm formation and motility of two strains used as soybean inoculants, Bradyrhizobium japonicum E109 and Azospirillum brasilense Az39. The metabolism of arsenate（As（V）） and arsenite（As（iii）） and their removal and/or possible accumulation were also evaluated. The behavior of both bacteria under As treatment was compared and discussed in relation to their potential for colonizing plant rhizosphere with high content of the metalloid. B. japonicum E109 growth was reduced with As（iii）concentration from 10 μM while A. brasilense Az39 showed a reduction of growth with As（iii） from 500 μM. EPS and biofilm production increased significantly under 25 μM As（iii）for both strains. Moreover, this was more notorious for Azospirillum under 500 μM As（iii）,where motility was seriously affected. Both bacterial strains showed a similar ability to reduce As（V）. However, Azospirillum was able to oxidize more As（iii）（around 53%） than Bradyrhizobium（17%）. in addition, both strains accumulated As in cell biomass. The behavior of Azospirillum under As treatments suggests that this strain would be able to colonize efficiently As contaminated soils. in this way, inoculation with A. brasilense Az39 would positively contribute to promoting growth of different plant species under As treatment.

The essential oil from Melaleuca leucadendra *** has been widely used as a perfume and traditional remedy,cosmetics and pharmaceutical products ingredient since many years *** common technology to recover the oil is hydro-distillation and ***,all oil can not be fully extracted from the leaves by this method due to the recalcitrant structure of leaves that hindrance the access of the *** a submerged fermentation as a pretreatment step prior to the extraction process helped to loosen the lignocellulose structure and enhance oil release in the extraction *** this study,the raw materials were collected from the natural forest in Buru island,Maluku,*** biological agents applied in these processes were Phanerochaete chrysosporium iTBCC136 and Trichoderma viride *** oil extraction process was conducted by method of steam-distillation,the oil was analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy(GC-MS),and the lignocellulose content in the biomass was measured by the fractionation *** treatment using *** provided the highest increase in yield percentage up to 3.47%as compared with control of 1.45%,with the lowest percentages of the remained cellulose,while the fermentation with the presence of *** did not affect the oil yield even the lignin content was decrease as much as 21%.The percentages of 1,8-cineole in the oil were almost unchanged,which was about 20%of the oil.

Phosphorus overenrichment of shallow ponds prevailing in wetlands leads to their eutrophication causing the collapse of those vulnerable *** potential of phosphorus accumulation by periphyton developed on artificial substrata has been investigated in two shallow ponds(Bara?ka and?iroki Rit)in northwest Serbia and compared to the same ability of plankton and *** periphyton substrate carrier has been submerged from May to *** continuously(CS)and monthly developed(MS)periphyton were *** component of all investigated communities has been qualitatively *** accumulation of only 14.7 mg TP/m^(2) was recorded in three-month exposed periphyton *** exposed from July to August reached maximal 12.7 mg TP/m^(2).Plankton community that was characterized by more diverse and abundantly developed algal component was more effective in phosphorus accumulation(0.7 mg/g dry weight)in comparison with dominantly inorganic and diatom-dominated periphyton in Bara?*** conditions caused by recent revitalization(dredging organic matter and mud from pond basin—redigging)as well as rapid desiccation of?iroki Rit disabled making an unambiguous conclusion about the efficiency of phosphorus accumulation among different communities,but suggested slight potential of phosphorus harvesting by metaphyton in this *** to the shorter exposure time that brings the reduced risk of unpredictable changes in the ecosystem,as well as the considerable amount of accumulated phosphorus,large-scale application of one-month exposed periphyton developed on artificial substrates would be more advisable for phosphorus harvesting in nutrient affected shallow ponds.
