High-resolution multi-scale air pollution system:Evaluation of modelling performance and emission control strategies

A high percentage of the world's population lives in areas where air pollutant concentrations exceed the World Health Organization *** work aims to develop and test,a high-resolution multi-scale air pollution modelling system by integrating a set of adequate *** system is able to provide detailed air pollutant concentrations in urban areas and support air quality management strategies through a better identification of different atmospheric *** also allows furthering the design and assessment of air pollution control measures for a specific *** evaluate its performance and suitability,the system was applied to the Macao Special Administrative Region(SAR),China,one of the most densely populated areas on earth,during a winter period when this area is affected by high levels of particulate Matter(pM).Although the developed system tends to underestimate the pM concentrations,it revealed a good performance in reproducing the temporal and spatial air pollution *** exceedances of the Chinese air quality standards were calculated and high population exposure to pM pollution was *** tested urban atmospheric emission reduction scenarios have shown air quality improvements,indicating that emission reduction measures at urban level should focus on the domestic ***,it is crucial to implement joint pollution prevention strategies with neighbouring regions to improve the air quality in Macao *** approach developed in this work can support policymakers in defining new strategies to reduce atmospheric pollution in urban areas.

Motivations for and barriers to innovation in non-profit organizations: The case of nursing homes in Northern portugal

To contribute to the empirical literature on innovation in non-profit organizations,this study examines innovation in private Social Solidarity Institutions with social responses for the elderly in Northern *** enriches the literature by clarifying the concept of innovation applied to non-profit organizations,which represents a perspective different from the business ***,it is important to support the innovation decisionmaking process in similar non-profit *** this study,the population was surveyed through questionnaires based on the pUBLIN research project,which has already been applied in different countries,and the targets were employees of organizations with social responses for the *** sample is small,with 28 respondent institutions and 51 employees,but it is representative,as it includes institutions from all districts in Northern *** study employed a quantitative approach,particularly factor analysis,multiple linear regression,and correlation analyses,using scales already applied in other dimensions of the social sector,to understand the effect of each innovation dimension/determinant on creativity and innovation in nonprofit *** results show that in these organizations with social responses for the elderly,learning orientation,risk-taking,and job satisfaction have a positive impact on innovation.

BACKGROUND Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency(AATD)is a codominant autosomal hereditary condition that predisposes patients to the development of lung and/or liver disease,and pi*Z allele is the most clinically relevant *** To evaluate the impact of clinical parameters and AATD phenotypes,particularly the pi*Z allele,in liver *** Cross-sectional cohort study including consecutive patients with AATD followed in pulmonology or Hepatology *** Included 69 patients,49.3%had pi*MZ phenotype and 10.1%pi**** age≥55 years,age at diagnosis≥41 years and AAT at diagnosispredicted a nonalcoholic fatty liver disease fibrosis score(NFS)not excluding advanced fibrosis[area under the curve(AUC)=0.840,ppp=0.025].An age≥50 years and age at diagnosis≥41 years predicted a fibrosis-4 index of moderate to advanced fibrosis(AUC=0.831,pppatients with hypertension,type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM),dyslipidaemia,metabolic syndrome,and regular alcohol consumption were more likely to have a NFS not excluding advanced fibrosis(pp=0.002,p=0.008,pp=0.033).patients with at least one pi*Z allele and type 2 DM were 8 times more likely to have liver stiffness measurement≥7.1 kpa(p=0.040).CONCLUSION Risk factors for liver disease in AATD included an age≥50 years,age at diagnosis≥41 years,metabolic risk factors,regular alcohol consumption,at least one pi*Z allele,and AAT value at diagnosispatients to use in primary care,selecting those to be referred to Hepatology consultation.

Impact of Laboratory Value Flowsheet in Electronic Health Record (EHR) Documentation Time

Research on the use of EHR is contradictory since it presents contradicting results regarding the time spent documenting. There is research that supports the use of electronic records as a tool to speed documentation;and research that found that it is time consuming. The purpose of this quantitative retrospective before-after project was to measure the impact of using the laboratory value flowsheet within the EHR on documentation time. The research question was: “Does the use of a laboratory value flowsheet in the EHR impact documentation time by primary care providers (pCps)?” The theoretical framework utilized in this project was the Donabedian Model. The population in this research was the two pCps in a small primary care clinic in the northwest of puerto Rico. The sample was composed of all the encounters during the months of October 2019 and December 2019. The data was obtained through data mining and analyzed using SpSS 27. The evaluative outcome of this project is that there is a decrease in documentation time after implementation of the use of the laboratory value flowsheet in the EHR. However, patients per day increase therefore having an impact on the number of patients seen per day/week/month. The implications for clinical practice include the use of templates to improve workflow and documentation as well as decreasing documentation time while also increasing the number of patients seen per day. .

As hydropower development expands across lowland tropical forests,flooding and concomitant insular fragmentation have become important threats to *** created insular landscapes serve as natural laboratories to investigate biodiversity responses to *** of these most iconic landscapes is the Balbina Hydroelectric Reservoir in Brazilian Amazonia,occupying>400000 ha and comprising>3500 forest ***,we synthesise the current knowledge on responses of a wide range of biological groups to insular fragmentation at *** has largely concentrated on a set of 22 islands and three mainland *** total,39 studies were conducted over nearly two decades,covering 17 vertebrate,invertebrate,and plant *** species responses varied according to taxonomic group,island area was consistently included and played a pivotal role in 66.7%of all studies examining patterns of species *** persistence was further affected by species traits,mostly related to species capacity to use/traverse the aquatic matrix or tolerate habitat degradation,as noted for species of vertebrates and orchid *** research is needed to improve our understanding of such effects on wider ecosystem *** Impact Assessments must account for changes in both the remaining habitat amount and configuration,and subsequent long-term species losses.

A Concise Joint Transmit/Receive Antenna Selection Algorithm

For reducing the computational complexity of the problem of joint transmit and receive antenna selection in Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems, we present a concise joint transmit/receive antenna selection algorithm. Using a novel partition of the channel matrix, we drive a concise formula. This formula enables us to augment the channel matrix in such a way that the computational complexity of the greedy Joint Transmit/Receive Antenna Selection (JTRAS) algorithm is reduced by a factor of 4n L , where n L is the number of selected antennas. A decoupled version of the proposed algorithm is also proposed to further improve the efficiency of the JTRAS algorithm, with some capacity degradation as a tradeoff. The computational complexity and the performance of the proposed approaches are evaluated mathematically and verified by computer simulations. The results have shown that the proposed joint antenna selection algorithm maintains the capacity perormance of the JTRAS algorithm while its computational complexity is only 1/4n L of that of the JTRAS algorithm. The decoupled version of the proposed algorithm further reduces the computational complexity of the joint antenna selection and has better performance than other decoupling-based algorithms when the selected antenna subset is small as compared to the total number of antennas.

Onto the sense of smell in macaws, amazons and toucans: can they use volatile cues of fruits to make foraging decisions?

Over the past decades,empirical evidence has been accumulated indicating that olfactory information plays a fundamental role in bird life ***,many aspects of avian olfaction remain poorly *** purpose was to broaden the knowledge about the importance of the sense of smell in some neglected bird groups:psittaciformes and ramphastids,and to compare how the response varied between the *** of the lack of information about the use of chemical cues for locating food in fruit-eating species,we also aimed to delve into this *** conducted a 3-choice(water/vinegar/papaya and banana juice)scent test in 5 Costa Rican native species:scarlet macaw(Ara macao),red-lored amazon(Amazona autumnalis),yellow-naped amazon(Amazona auropalliata),keel-billed toucan(Ramphastos sulfuratus),and yellow-throated toucan(Ramphastos ambiguus).Results revealed that macaws and toucans allocated signiﬁcantly more time to interacting with the fruit scent container,indicating that these species can perceive the volatile chemicals emitted by ripe fruits and that they can use this information to make foraging ***,amazons did not dedicate more time to interact with the fruit *** research provides theﬁrst evidence of the ability to exploit chemical volatile cues in macaws and toucans.

Evolution of radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer along the last two decades: single institution experience

Background： The radical hysterectomy （RH） surgical technique has improved along the years. It is used for the treatment of cervical cancer, endometrial cancer when affecting the cervix, and upper vaginal carcinomas. Our aim was to describe the historical evolution of the technique after the introduction of laparoseopy at our institution. Methods： We performed a retrospective review of medical records of patients who underwent RH, grouped in three periods according to the year of surgery： 1990-1999, 2000-2009 and 2010-2013. patients＇ characteristics, pathologic details, intraoperative and postoperative complications were analyzed and comoared throughout the time periods. Results： A total of 102 cases of RH were performed at our center during the study period. Among all data collected, the presence of necrosis, age, number of lymph nodes, surgery route, operating time, hospital stay, blood loss and transfusion requirement were statistically significant different among groups. Conversion to laparotomy rate was 19% for the second period compared to the absence of cases in the last one. No significant differences （p=0.124） were observed in the adjuvant treatment received among the three different groups. At the time of the last contact the patients free of disease were 12 （85.7%）, 53 （91.3%） and 26 （86.6%） respectively （p=0.406）. Regarding the disease-free interval, we found significant better outcomes in the group of laparotomy compared to laparoscopy （p=0.015）.Conclusions： Laparoscopic RH is an acceptable surgery with advantages like magnified vision of the operation＇s field, lower surgical complications, shorter hospital stay and earlier resumption to daily activities.
