Standardizing Mi-TLiF, a Proposal for a Reproducible Technique

Background: Minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (Mi TLiF) is a widely known and performed technique, however its versatility among different physicians continues to hinder its replication and results. Therefore, this study aimed to provide a step-by-step surgical guide to perform a safe Mi-TLiF, based on the results obtained in patients operated on by a single surgeon over a period of 12 years. Patients and methods: A retrospective, single center, longitudinal, and observational cohort study was conducted with 931 patients who underwent Mi TLiF by a single surgeon between 2010 and 2022 using the technique described on this paper, each with a minimum follow-up of 12 months. Criteria included Schizas classification, listhesis according to Meyerding classification, number of levels treated, cage size, and complications (screw repositioning or cerebrospinal fluid leak). Patient clinical outcomes were assessed using the Oswestry Disability index (ODi), Visual analog Scale (VAS) for pre- and postoperative radicular pain. Thin slice CT scans were used to assess the progression of the fusion using the Bridwell classification. in the statistical analysis, percentages, median, and interquartile range (iQR) were calculated. Results: Nine hundred and thirty one patients underwent Mi TLiF using the technique described, eight hundred and eighty (94.5%) had a single level treated and fifty one (5.5%) had a 2 level procedure (982 levels), an 8mm cage was placed on five hundred and seventeenlevels (52.7%), six hundred and sixty three levels(67.6%) achieved grade i fusion, two hundred and sixty six levels (27.1%) achieved grade ii fusion, 52 levels (5.3) achieved grade iii fusion and one level (0.1) achieved a grade iV fusion or non-union. Revision surgery was performed on 3 patients (0.3%) for screw repositioning, cerebrospinal fluid leak was present on 2 patients during surgery and treated before closure. Phage lytic proteins: a natural approach to agro-food safety

Sustainability is a leading trend in the context of food production. Additionally， consumers increasingly demand safer and less-processed products. Among the different technologies used to maintain the quality and extend the shelf-life of fresh and minimally-processed food， natural antimicrobial agents offer a promising strategy to replace conventional compounds. in this regard， phage lytic proteins or lysins， such as endolysins and virion-associated peptidoglycan hydrolases (VAPGHs)， have been proposed as a viable option for the avoidance and elimination of undesirable bacteria within the food production chain. Even when applied exogenously， these proteins can degrade the bacterial cell wall maintaining their lytic activity. This feature， alongside their modular structure， which can be exploited for bioengineering， provides significant biotechnological potential. However， despite the promising properties of lysins， the main obstacle for their commercialization is the limited legal information regulating their use. This challenge underscores the need to navigate complex regulatory pathways. The primary objective of this review is to address this crucial gap and summarize the many prospective applications of endolysins during the different stages of food production. By doing so， we aim to provide clarity and insight into the regulatory challenges that must be overcome for the successful utilization of lysins.

Motivations for and barriers to innovation in non-profit organizations: The case of nursing homes in Northern Portugal

To contribute to the empirical literature on innovation in non-profit organizations,this study examines innovation in Private Social Solidarity institutions with social responses for the elderly in Northern *** enriches the literature by clarifying the concept of innovation applied to non-profit organizations,which represents a perspective different from the business ***,it is important to support the innovation decisionmaking process in similar non-profit *** this study,the population was surveyed through questionnaires based on the PUBLiN research project,which has already been applied in different countries,and the targets were employees of organizations with social responses for the *** sample is small,with 28 respondent institutions and 51 employees,but it is representative,as it includes institutions from all districts in Northern *** study employed a quantitative approach,particularly factor analysis,multiple linear regression,and correlation analyses,using scales already applied in other dimensions of the social sector,to understand the effect of each innovation dimension/determinant on creativity and innovation in nonprofit *** results show that in these organizations with social responses for the elderly,learning orientation,risk-taking,and job satisfaction have a positive impact on innovation.

MicroRNAs(miRNAs),small non-coding RNAs composed of 18–24 nucleotides,are potent regulators of gene expression,contributing to the regulation of more than 30%of protein-coding *** that miRNAs are regulators of inflammatory pathways and the differentiation of intestinal epithelial cells,there is an interest in exploring their importance in inflammatory bowel disease(iBD).iBD is a chronic and multifactorial disease of the gastrointestinal tract;the main forms are Crohn's disease and ulcerative *** studies have investigated the dysregulated expression of miRNAs in iBD,demonstrating their important roles as regulators and potential biomarkers of this *** editorial presents what is known and what is expected regarding miRNAs in *** the important regulatory roles of miRNAs in iBD are clearly established,biomarkers for iBD that can be applied in clinical practice are lacking,emphasizing the importance of further *** regarding the influence of miRNAs on the inflammatory process and the exploration of their role in gene regulation are expected to provide a basis for the use of miRNAs not only as potent biomarkers in iBD but also as therapeutic targets for the control of inflammatory processes in personalized medicine.

Proton exchange membrane(PEM)water electrolysis represents a promising technology for green hydrogen production,but its widespread deployment is greatly hindered by the indispensable usage of platinum group metal catalysts,especially iridium(ir)based materials for the energy-demanding oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we report a new sequential precipitation approach to the synthesis of mixed ir-nickel(Ni)oxy-hydroxide supported on antimony-doped tin oxide(ATO)nanoparticles(irNiyO_(x)/ATO,20 wt.%(ir+Ni),y=0,1,2,and 3),aiming to reduce the utilisation of scarce and precious ir while maintaining its good acidic OER *** tested in strongly acidic electrolyte(0.1 M HClO_(4)),the optimised irNi1Ox/ATO shows a mass activity of 1.0 mAµgir^(−1) and a large turnover frequency of 123 s^(−1) at an overpotential of 350 mV,as well as a comparatively small Tafel slope of 50 mV dec^(−1),better than the irOx/ATO control,particularly with a markedly reduced ir loading of only 19.7µgir cm^(−2).importantly,irNi1O_(x)/ATO also exhibits substantially better catalytic stability than other reference catalysts,able to continuously catalyse acidic OER at 10 mA cm^(−2) for 15 h without obvious *** in-situ synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy confirmed that the ir^(3+)/ir^(4+)species are the active sites for the acidic ***,the performance of irNi1Ox/ATO was also preliminarily evaluated in a membrane electrode assembly,which shows better activity and stability than other reference *** irNi1Ox/ATO reported in this work is a promising alternative to commercial irO_(2) based catalysts for PEM electrolysis.

introduction:Coronavirus disease 2019(COViD-19)may be associated with various skin *** them,figurate erythema(FE)is rare;only a few clinical reports have been ***,we reported an unusual concentric FE lesions and their immunohistochemical profile in a patient with *** presentation:A 52-year-old woman was diagnosed with *** month later,she developed asymptomatic annular erythematous concentric ring lesions on her inner right *** margin of every ring increased in coloration,and the lesions then completely resolved in 2 weeks.A biopsy revealed vasculitis of small vessels,an increase in the fluorescence intensity of CD3 and CD45,and negativity for COViD-19 ***:The results showed an unusual FE that has a clinical mixed type between erythema annulare centrifugum and erythema gyratum repens;the physiopathological mechanism in the FE due to COViD-19 is unknown;one theory involves rapid viral passage into the cutaneous vascular system that triggers an immune and inflammatory *** the results exhibited a negative COViD-19 RNA in the tissue,the CD3^(+)/CD45^(+)lymphocyte infiltration could explain the clinical pattern as a direct inflammatory response in the small vessel or as a delayed immune ***:Our findings suggest an immunohistochemical small vessel vasculitis pattern with an unusual clinical FE that differs from other types of COViD-19-associated FE or erythema reported previously.
