Interferon Regulatory Factor 5 and Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System Polymorphisms in Coronary Artery Disease: An Overview of Experimental and Clinical Studies

Heart diseases are the main cause of mortality in Mexico, being coronary heart disease the most frequent in the country. Its high prevalence makes important the study of the pathophysiology and the search for prognostic factors. Different genes and polymorphisms promote atherogenesis and coronary artery disease, they affect inflammatory and vascular pathological processes. ana;">Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) is associated with coronary heart disease, it promotes chronic inflammation and cytokines release;it could trigger immune reactions and its activating receptors express in the vascular endothelium. Besides, polymorphisms in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) are implied with coronary disease, they are found in angiotensinogen (AGT), angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R), angiotensin II type 2 receptor (AT2R), and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) genes. These genetic polymorphisms are associated with a prothrombotic state, endothelial dysfunction, and immune activation. Multiple experimental studies showed that chronic activation of RAAS and chronic expression of IRF5 generates an environment prone to the development of atherosclerosis, and autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases. Studying these specific genes and their relationship with coronary heart disease will allow a better understanding of the pathological process and possibly the quest for new treatments.

Genetic Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci for Contents of Mineral Nutrients in Rice Grain

In present study, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, Ca, Mg, P and K contents of 85 introgression lines （ILs） derived from a cross between an elite indica cultivar Teqing and the wild rice （Oryza rufipogon） were measured by inductively coupled argon plasma （ICAP） spectrometry. Substantial variation was observed for all traits and most of the mineral elements were significantly positive correlated or independent except for Fe with Cu. A total of 31 putative quantitative trait loci （QTLs） were detected for these eight mineral elements by single point analysis. Wild rice （O. rufipogon） contributed favorable alleles for most of the QTLs （26 QTLs）, and chromosomes 1,9 and 12 exhibited 14 QTLs （45%） for these traits. One major effect of QTL for zinc content accounted for the largest proportion of phenotypic variation （11%-19%） was detected near the simple sequence repeats marker RM152 on chromosome 8. The co-locations of QTLs for some mineral elements observed in this mapping population suggested the relationship was at a molecular level among these traits and could be helpful for simultaneous improvement of these traits in rice grain by marker assisted selection.

Polymorphisms of the TLR2 and TLR4 genes are associated with risk of gastric cancer in a Brazilian population

AIM： TO investigate toll-like receptor 2 （TLR2） -196 to -274 del, and TLR4 （＋896A/G rs4986790 and ＋1196C/ T rs4986791） polymorphisms at risk of chronic gastritis and gastric cancer in a Brazilian population and associ-ation of gastric lesions with risk factors such as smoking, alcohol intake and Helicobacter pylori infection.METHODS： In this casecontrol study, polymorphism at TLR2 -96 to -174 del was investigated by using the allele-specific polymerase chain reaction （PCR） method, while the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism technique was carried out to identify the TLR4 （rs4986790 and rs4986791） genotypes in 607 Brazilian individuals （208 with chronic gastritis-CG, 174 with gastric cancer-GC and 225 controls -C）.RESULTS： The single nucleotide polymorphisms TLR4＋1196ClT was not associated with risk of chronic gastritis or gastric cancer and the homozygous genotypes TLR4＋896GG and TLR4＋1196TF were absent in the studied population. However, the frequency of TLR2 -196 to -174 ins/del ＋ del/del and TLR4＋896AGgenotypes was significantly higher （P 〈 0.01 and P = 0.01, respectively） in the cancer group （33.4% and 11.5%, respectively） than in the control group （16.9% and 4.5%, respectively）. It was also observed that the G-C haplotype of the TLR4＋896A/G＋1196C/T （P = 0.02） and the combination of variant alleles of the TLR21TLR4＋896G （P = 0.02） are associated with susceptibility to gastric cancer. In addition, the multiple logistic regression showed that male gender [odds ratio （OR） = 2.70; 95% CI： 1.66-4.41; P 〈 0.01], alcohol intake （OR = 2.93; 95% CI： 1.76-4.87, P 〈 0.01）, TLR2 -196 to -174 del （OR = 2.64; 95% CI： 1.56-4.44; P 〈 0.01） and TLR4＋896G （OR = 3.19; 95% CI： 1.34- 7.61; P 〈 0.01） polymorphisms were associated with a higher susceptibility to developing this neoplasm.CONCLUSION： Our data indicate that T/R2 -196 to -174 del and TLR4＋896G may increase the risk of gastric cancer in a Brazilian population.

Vocal communication is a crucial aspect of animal behavior. The mechanism which most mam- mals use to vocalize relies on three anatomical components. First, air overpressure is generated in- side the lower vocal tract. Second, as the airstream goes through the glottis, sound is produced via vocal fold vibration. Third, this sound is further filtered by the geometry and length of the upper vocal tract. Evidence from mammalian anatomy and bioacoustics suggests that some of these three components may covary with an animal＇s body size. The framework provided by acoustic al- Iometry suggests that, because vocal tract length （VTL） is more strongly constrained by the growth of the body than vocal fold length （VFL）, VTL generates more reliable acoustic cues to an animal＇s size. This hypothesis is often tested acoustically but rarely anatomically, especially in pinnipeds. Here, we test the anatomical bases of the acoustic allometry hypothesis in harbor seal pups Phoca vitulina. We dissected and measured vocal tract, vocal folds, and other anatomical features of 15 harbor seals post-mortem. We found that, while VTL correlates with body size, VFL does not. This suggests that, while body growth puts anatomical constraints on how vocalizations are filtered by harbor seals＇ vocal tract, no such constraints appear to exist on vocal folds, at least during puppy- hood. It is particularly interesting to find anatomical constraints on harbor seals＇ vocal tracts, the same anatomical region partially enabling pups to produce individually distinctive vocalizations.

Li2SnO3 branched nano- and microstructures with intense and broadband white-light emission

Exploiting the synergy between microstructure, morphology and dimensions by suitable nanomaterial engineeri ng, can effectively upgrade the physical properties and material performances. Li2SnO3 elongated nano- and microstructures in form of belts, wires, rods and branched structures have been fabricated by a vapor-solid method at temperatures ranging from 700 to 900℃ using metallic Sn and Li2CO3 as precursors. The achievement of these new morphologies can face challenging applications for Li2SnO3, not only in the field of energy storage, but also as building blocks in optoelectronic devices. The micro? and nanostructures grown at 700 and 800℃ correspond to monoclinic Li2SnO3, while at 900℃ complex Li2S nO/SnO2 core-shell microstructures are grow n, as con firmed by X-ray diffractio n and Rama n spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscopy reveals structural disorder related to stacking faults in some of the branched structures, which is associated with the prese nee of the low-temperature phase of L12S nO3. The luminescent resp onse of these structures is domi nated by in tense emissi ons at 2, 2.5 and 3 eV, almost completely covering the whole range of the visible light spectrum. As a result, white-light emission is obtained without the need of phosphors or complex quantum well heterostructures. Enhanced functionality in applications such as in light-emitting devices could be exploited based on the high luminescenee intensity observed in some of the analysed Li2SnO3 structures.

Background:The objective was to study the effect of hydroxychloride trace minerals(HTM)on growth performance,carcass quality and gut microbiota of broiler chickens in comparison to sulphate trace minerals(STM).In total 1440 male Ross 308 day-old chicks were divided into 12 replicate pens with 30 birds each per *** different treatments were tested according to a 2×2 factorial study design,where the animals received a three phase diet containing either inorganic Zn from sulphates or Zn from HTM in high(80 mg/kg Zn)or low Zn dosage(20 mg/kg Zn).In all treatments 15 mg/kg Cu was added from the same mineral source as the *** weight and feed intake were measured on day 0,10,27 and 34,while carcass and breast meat yields were measured at the end of the study(day 34).In addition,high-throughput sequencing analysis was performed in digesta samples from ileum and cecum to study the gut microbiome(day 34).Results:The results showed an improved(Panalysis of the microbiota revealed a higher microbial diversity in the ileum and cecum of HTM fed birds compared to STM fed *** differences were mainly found in the cecum,specifically between the group fed high and low Zn levels from *** correlated with the mineral contents observed in the cecal *** both groups fed 80 mg/kg Zn,the HTM group had more Streptococcaceae,Streptococcus,Clostridia,Weissella and Leuconostocaceae compared to the STM ***:HTM improved growth performance of broiler chickens;and th

Monoclonal Antibody Production and Immunolocalization of a Salinity Stress-Related Protein in Rice (Oryza sativa)

Among various physiological responses to salt stress, the synthesis of a lectin-related protein of 14.5 kDa was observed in rice plants （Oryza sativa L.） under the treatment of 170 mmol/L NaCl. In order to better understand the role of the SALT protein in the physiological processes involving salinity, it was irnmunolocalized in mesophilic cells of leaf sheath and blade of a rice variety IAC-4440 following monoclonal antibodies produced by hybridome culture technique. This variety turned out to be an excellent model for that purpose, since it accumulates SALT protein even in absence of salt treatment and it has been classified as moderately sensitive to salinity and a superior grain producer. This feature was relevant for this work since it allowed the use of plants without the deleterious effects caused by salinity. Immunocytochemistry assays revealed that the SALT protein is located in the stroma of chloroplasts under non-stressing condition. Since the chloroplast is the main target affected by salinity and considering that the SALT protein does not present any apparent signal peptide for organelle localization, its lectin-like activity seems to play an important role in the establishment of stable complexes, either to other proteins or to oligosaccharides that are translocated to the chloroplast.

An Architecture for Software Engineering Gamification

Gamification has been applied in software engineering to improve quality and results by increasing people’s motivation and engagement.A systematic mapping has identified research gaps in the field,one of them being the difficulty of creating an integrated gamified environment comprising all the tools of an organization,since most existing gamified tools are custom developments or *** this paper,we propose a gamification software architecture that allows us to transform the work environment of a software organization into an integrated gamified environment,i.e.,the organization can maintain its tools,and the rewards obtained by the users for their actions in different tools will mount *** developed a gamification engine based on our proposal,and we carried out a case study in which we applied it in a real software development *** case study shows that the gamification engine has allowed the company to create a gamified workplace by integrating custom-developed tools and off-the-shelf tools such as Redmine,TestLink,or JUnit,with the gamification *** main advantages can be highlighted:(i)our solution allows the organization to maintain its current tools,and(ii)the rewards for actions in any tool accumulate in a centralized gamified environment.

Unveiling the controversial mechanism of reversible Na storage in TiO2 nanotube arrays： Amorphous versus anatase TiO2

Due to their inherent safety, low cost, and structural stability, TiO2 nanostructures represent a suitable choice as anode materials in sodiumion batteries. In the recent years, various hypotheses have been proposed regarding the actual mechanism of the reversible insertion of sodium ions in the TiO2 structure, and previous reports are often controversial in this respect. Interestingly, when tested as binder- and conducting additive-free electrodes in laboratory-scale sodium cells, amorphous and crystalline （anatase） TiO2 nanotubular arrays obtained by simple anodic oxidation exhibit peculiar and intrinsically different electrochemical responses. In particular, after the initial electrochemical activation, anatase TiO2 shows excellent rate capability and very stable long-term cycling performance with larger specific capacities, and thus a clearly superior response compared with the amorphous counterpart. To obtain deeper insight, the present materials are thoroughly characterized by scanning electron microscopy and ex situ X-ray diffraction, and the insertion of sodium ions in the TiO2 bulk phases is systematically modeled by density functional theory calculations. The present results may contribute to the development of more systematic screening approaches to identify suitable active materials for highly efficient sodium-based energy storage systems.
