Oncofertility is an extremely signiﬁcant topic that is increasingly being discussed owing to increased evidence indicating that fertility preservation does not affect the treatment outcomes of patients with cancer but signiﬁcantly contributes to preserving life *** effect of chemotherapy can range from minimal effects to complete ovarian *** data are available on the effects of monoclonal antibodies and targeted therapies on the ovaries and *** ovarian suppression by administering a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist(GnRHa)during chemotherapy decreases the gonadotoxic effect of chemotherapy,thereby diminishing the chance of developing premature ovarian insufﬁciency(POI).At present,the concomitant administration of GnRH analogs during chemotherapy is the only accepted pharmacological method for preserving ovarian ***,most randomized studies on the effectiveness of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists during chemotherapy in preventing POI have been conducted in women with breast cancer,with a considerably small number of studies on patients with hematological ***,most randomized controlled trials on breast cancer have revealed a decrease in treatment-induced POI risk,regardless of the hormone receptor *** addition,studies on hematological malignancies have yielded negative results;nevertheless,theﬁndings must be interpreted with caution owing to numerous *** guidelines from the American Society of clinical Oncology and ESMO clinical Practice Guidelines recommend sperm,oocyte,and embryo cryopreservation as a standard practice and only offering GnRHa to patients when proven fertility preservation methods are not *** this manuscript,we present a comprehensive literature overview on the application of ovarian suppression with GnRHa during chemotherapy in patients with cancer by addressing preclinical and clinical data,as well as future perspectives in thisﬁeld

The catalytic conversion of polystyrene (PS) was studied in the presence of the materials type HZSM-5, ceO2, 10% ceO2/HZSM-5 and 20% ceO2/HZSM-5, which were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and nitrogen adsorption at 77K. The catalytic tests were performed via thermogravimetric analysis (TG) at heating rates of 5, 10 and 20˚c min−1 in a temperature range from 30˚c to 900˚c. For the tests, a ratio of 30% by mass of each catalytic material mixed with PS was used and the activation energy of the degradation process was determined by the Vyazovkin method. The obtained results showed that the addition of the catalyst to the PS in general reduced its degradation temperature. The 10% ceO2/HZSM-5 catalyst showed greater efficiency, as it resulted in lower activation energy for PS degradation. Thus, the combination of ceO2 with HZSM-5 resulted in materials with potential for application in the catalytic degradation of polystyrene and the results indicate that the production of a composite material can be a good strategy to generate an increase in catalytic activity and a decrease in energy process activation.

Purpose: The primary aim of this paper is to design, create, and improve functional and artificial Bruch’s membranes (BM) using bioengineering techniques, which can be applied in the treatment of maculopathies by supporting the growth and maintenance of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells, thereby potentially enabling subretinal implantation in patients. Methods: We fabricated by electrospinning ultrathin 3D nanofibrous membranes from Polycaprolactone (PcL), and different concentrations of gelatin (5%, 15% and 30%). ARPE-19 cells were seeded onto these artificial membranes. MTT assays were performed in order to evaluate ARPE-19 cell viability and cytotoxicity. IF assays were realized to observe the ARPE-19 cells onto each membrane. Ultrastructure of the modified Bruch’s membrane and ARPE-19 morphology after 25 days of culture were studied with transmission and scanning electron microscopy. To evaluate expression changes in markers of ARPE-19 (RPE65 and ZO-1) qRT-PcR assays were realized. Data from three independent experiments were pooled and expressed as the mean SD. A confidence level of P 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results ARPE-19 cells grew on PcL/Gelatin membranes mainly in PcL/30% gelatin combination, which had not cytotoxic effect. RPE65/cytokeratin-18/ and actin-positive ARPE-19 cells formed a correctly orientated monolayer of polygonal cells with morphological polarity. The apical cell surfaces exhibited abundant protruding microfolds. Moreover, zones of polygonal border look as if ARPE-19 cells fused among, suggesting the presence of tight junctions. The expression of RPE65 and ZO-1 was unchanged. conclusions: PcL/30% Gelatine membranes may imitate the natural BM to such extent that they support RPE-cells and exhibited RPE-like morphology. The effect of temperature on the electrical conductivity （σ） and Seebeck coefficient （S） of n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers （cNFs）and poly（vinylidene fluoride）(PVDF) melt-mixed with 15 wt%of those cNFs is *** 40°c,the cNFs show stable n-type character (S=-4.8μV·K-1) with anσof ca.165 S·m-1,while the PVDF/cNF composite film shows anσof ca.9 S·m-1and near-zero S (S=-0.5μV·K-1).This experimental reduction in S is studied by the density functional tight binding （DFTB） method revealing a contact electron transfer from the cNFs to the PVDF in the ***,in the temperature range from 40°c to 100°c,theσ（T） of the cNFs and PVDF/cNF film,successfully described by the 3D variable range hopping （VRH） model,is explained as consequence of a thermally activated backscattering *** the contrary,the S（T）from 40°c to 100°c of the PVDF/cNF film,which satisfactorily matches the model proposed for some multi-walled carbon nanotube （MWcNT）doped mats;however,it does not follow the increase in S（T） found for *** these findings are presented with the aim of discerning the role of these n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers on theσand S of their melt-mixed polymer composites.

This study aims to demonstrate the validity of fluorescence-based methods,together with flow cytometry,as a complementary tool to conventional physicochemical analyses carried out in wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs),for the control of the currently largely unknown activated sludge *** with SYTO 9,propidium iodide and 5-(and 6)-carboxy-2’,7’-difluorodihydrofluorescein diacetate(carboxy-H2 DFFDA)was used for cell viability and oxidative stress monitoring of the bacterial population forming the activated sludge of a *** the period of research,several unstable periods were detected,where the non-viable bacteria exceeded the 75%of the total bacterial population in the activated sludge,but only in one case the cells with oxidative stress grew to 9%,exceeding the typical values of2%-5%of this *** periods coincided in two cases with high values of total suspended solids(SST)and chemical oxygen demand(cOD)in the effluent,and with an excess of ammonia in other case.A correlation between flow cytometric and physicochemical data was found,which enabled to clarify the possible origin of each case of instability in the biological *** experience supports the application of bacterial fluorescence staining,together with flow cytometric analysis,as a simple,rapid and reliable tool for the control and better understanding of the bacteria dynamics in a biological wastewater treatment process.

Objectives： This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant capacity, to determine the anti-inflammatory effect due to lipoxygenase inhibition and to test the antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extracts from leaves of seven climbing species belonging to the Bignoniaceae family. These species are Adenocalyrnrna rnarginatum （cham.） Dc., Amphilophium vauthieri Dc., cuspidaria convoluta （VEIL） A. H. Gentry, Dolichandra dentata （K. Schum.） L. G. Lohmann, Fridericia caudigera （S. Moore） L. G. Lohmann, Fridericia chica （Bonpl.） L. G. Lohmann and Tanaecium selloi （Spreng.） L. G. Lohmann. Methods： The antioxidant activity was evaluated using three methods, 2,2＇-azino-bis（3-ethylbenzothiazo line-6-sulfonic acid）（ABTS）, 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl （DPPH）, and ferric reducing antioxidant power. Lipoxygenase-inhibiting activity was assayed spectrophotometrically; the result was expressed as percent inhibition. The antimicrobial activity was assessed using the agar disk diffusion method. Minimal inhibitory concentration （MIc） and minimal bactericidal]fungicidal concentration were also determined for each extract against 12 pathogenic bacterial strains of Staphylococcus aureus and seven fungal strains of the candida genus. The identification of the major compounds present in the most promising extract was established by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Results： c convoluta, F. caudigera, and F. chica exhibited the best antioxidant activity by scavenging DPPH and ABTS~ radicals and reducing Fe3＋ ion. These extracts showed a notable inhibition of lipnxygenase. F. caudigera was found to have the lower MIc value against S. aureus strains and six candida species. The extracts of F. caudigera and c. convoluta were active even against methicillin-resistant S. aureus. c convoluta had higher total phenol content, better antioxidant activity and superior anti- inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. In summer 2010, twenty eight （14 PM=2.5 samples plus 14 samples PM2.5-10） smoke samples were collected during wildfires that occurred in central Portugal. A portable high-volume sampler was used to perform the sampling, on quartz fibre filters of coarse （PM=2.5-10） and fine （PM2.5） smoke samples. The carbonaceous content （elemental and organic carbon） of particulate matter was analysed by a thermal-optical technique. Subsequently, the particulate samples were solvent extracted and fractionated by vacuum flash chromatog- raphy into three different classes of organic compounds （aliphatics, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs） and carbonyl compounds）. The organic speciation was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （Gc-MS）. Emissions were dominated by the fine particles, which represented around 92% of the PM10. A clear predominance of carbonaceous constituents was observed, with organic to elemental carbon （Oc/Ec） ratios ranging between 1.69 and 245 in both size fractions. The isoprenoid ketone 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone, a tracer for secondary organic aerosol formation, was one of the dominant constituents in both fine and coarse particles. Retene was the most abundant compound in all samples. Good correlations were obtained between Oc and both aliphatic and PAH compounds. Pyrogenic processes, thermal release of biogenic com- pounds and secondary processing accounted for 97% of the apportioned PM2.5 levels.
