Academic Stress Assessment Using Virtual Reality as an Educational Tool in Spine Surgery

Introduction: The evaluation of academic stress in medical students and residents is a topic of significant interest, given the considerable challenges they face during their learning process with traditional teaching methods. The use of technologies like virtual reality presents an opportunity to enhance their skills through simulations and training. The main objective of this study is to qualitatively assess the stress levels experienced by medical students and residents by integrating virtual reality into their current learning methods, aiming to improve their ability to manage stressors in their practice. Material and Methods: A questionnaire was conducted with 12 medical students and 12 Traumatology and orthopedics residents. The purpose of the questionnaire was to evaluate the levels of academic stress using the SISCO inventory. The stress levels were calculated by transforming average values into percentages, and the following criteria were assigned: 0 to 33% for Mild Stress, 34 to 66% for Moderate Stress, and 67 to 100% for Deep Stress. Then, a virtual reality class focused on spine surgery was provided. Both medical students and residents were trained using the Non Nocere SharpSurgeon software platform and Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality glasses. At the end of the session, a second questionnaire related to the practice with virtual reality was conducted with the same evaluation criteria and a comparative analysis was carried out. Results: 12 undergraduate students from Hospital Angeles Mexico, CDMX and 12 traumatology and orthopedics residents at Hospital Santa Fe, Bogota were evaluated. The students in CDMX reported an average qualitative stress of 28.50% during habitual practices, which decreased to an average of 14.67% after virtual reality practice. Residents in Bogotá experienced an average qualitative stress of 30.50% with their current learning methods but this reduced to an average of 13.92% after using virtual reality. The goal of this work was to measure the heat transfer rates from thermofluid, Therminol 66, to two phase change materials, D-mannitol and adipic acid. It concerns the determination of heat transfer coefficients for the design of a concentrated solar energy plant requiring PCM thermal energy storage and is part of a wider set of experiments, where several PCMs were tested. An experimental installation was used with a cylindrical vessel with three tubes disposed almost horizontally (5°inclination), containing the phase change material, around which the thermal fluid flowed almost perpendicular to the tubes. The experimental installation allowed to recreate heating and cooling cycles. In order to evaluate the influence of the flow on the rate at which the heating and cooling processes took place, tests were performed at different thermofluid mass flow rates, concluding that there is no great influence, since the thermal resistance inside the tubes is much higher than on the outside. D-mannitol and adipic acid, present different phase change temperatures, 164°C for D-mannitol and 152°C for adipic acid. The average heat transfer coefficient, during the phase change process, was of 340 W/(m2K) for D-mannitol and 1320 W/(m2K) for adipic acid.

基于全国11所八年制临床医学教育培养单位的毕业生调查数据,从培养入口、培养过程和培养出口三个层面对我国八年制临床医学生的培养状况、就读体验和职业发展进行实证分析。结果表明,我国八年制临床医学教育存在培养目标定位不够明确、教学方法较为单一、部分课程质量不高、毕业生科研能力发展欠佳、工作负担较重、职业满意度不高等挑战。为了提高八年制临床医学教育培养质量,要进一步从强化学生学习动机、丰富教育教学方法、重视学生科研能力培养、提高课程质量、明确培养目标、做好学生职业生涯规划等方面不断加以完善和改进。

The renin angiotensin system(RAS) is classically conceived as a circulating hormonal system involved in blood pressure control and hydroelectrolyte balance. The discovery that RAS components are locally expressed in a wide range of organs and tissues,including the liver,pointed to a role for this system in the pathogenesis of several conditions including hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. It has been widely reported that the classical RAS axis composed by the angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)-angiotensin(Ang) Ⅱ-Ang type 1(AT1) receptor mediates pro-inflammatory,pro-thrombotic,and pro-fibrotic processes. On the other hand,the alternative axis comprising ACE2-Ang-(1-7)-Mas receptor seems to play a protective role by frequently opposing Ang Ⅱ action. Chronic hepatitis B(CHB) is one of the leading causes of liver fibrosis,accounting for the death of nearly one million people worldwide. Liver fibrosis is a key factor to determine therapeutic interventions for patients with CHB. However,the establishment of non-invasive and accurate methods to detect reversible stages of liver fibrosis is still a challenge. In an elegant study published in the 36 th issue of the World Journal of Gastroenterology,Noguchi et al showed the predictive value of serum ACE levels in detecting not only advanced stages of liver fibrosis but also initial and intermediate fibrotic stages. The serum levels of ACE might represent an accurate,non-invasive,widely available,and easy method to evaluate fibrosis related to CHB. Moreover,therapies involving the inhibition of the classical RAS axis components might be promising in the control of CHB-related liver fibrosis.
