Relative Chronology in High-Grade Crystalline Terrain of the Eastern Ghats, India: New Insights

The two major lithology or gneiss components in the polycyclic granulite terrain of the Eastern Ghats, India, are the supracrustal rocks, commonly described as khondalites, and the charnockite-gneiss. Northern Eastern Ghats belt, north of the Godavari rift has been defined as the Eastern Ghats Province, while that to the south has been defined as the Ongole domain;and although, these distinct crustal domains also record different ages of granulite metamorphism, both of these domains are dominated by the two lithologies. Many of the workers considered the khondalites as the oldest component with unknown basement and the charnockite- protoliths as intrusive into the khondalites. However, published geochronological data do not corroborate the aforesaid relations. Onset of khondalite sedimentation in the Proterozoic Eastern Ghats Province, constrained by detrital zircon data, as around 1.3 Ga and the charnockite-protolith emplacement between 1.9 and 2.9 Ga, argue against intrusion of felsic magma (tonalite, now enderbite!) in to the khondalites. The field relations of the hornblende-mafic granulite with the two gneiss components together with Sm-Nd isotopic data of the hornblende-mafic granulites (both the xenoliths within charnockites and those interbanded with the khondalites) indicate that khondalite sediments were deposited on older mafic crustal rocks. Mafic basement and supracrustal rocks were subsequently deformed and metamorphosed together during collisional orogeny at high to ultra-high temperatures – partial melting of mafic rocks producing the charnockitic melt;and partial melting of pelitic sediments producing the peraluminous granitoids. This is compatible with all the geochronological data as well as the petrogenetic model of partial melting for the charnockitic rocks in the Eastern Ghats Belt. The Ongole domain, south of the Godavari rift, though, is distinct in terms of the age of first/ earliest UHT metamorphism, but here too the charnockite-protoliths

Methane hydrate formation and dissociation in synthetic seawater

The formation and dissociation of methane gas hydrate at an interface between synthetic seawater （SSW） and methane gas have been experimentally investigated in the present work. The amount of gas consumed during hydrate formation has been calculated using the real gas equation. Induction time for the formation of hydrate is found to depend on the degree of subcooling. All the experiments were conducted in quiescent system with initial cell pressure of 11.14 MPa. Salinity effects on the onset pressure and temperature of hydrate formation are also observed. The dissociation enthalpies of methane hydrate in synthetic seawater were determined by Clausius-Clapeyron equation based on the measured phase equilibrium data. The dissociation data have been analyzed by existing models and compared with the reported data.

DIC Based Strain and Damage Analysis of Large Scale Steel to Composite Adhesive Joints Subjected to Tension and Compression Loading

This paper reports an experimental study of the mechanical response to tensile and compressive force of large scale steel to composite joints adhesively bonded with a thin layer of vinylester *** one specimen,the length of the reinforcing fibres in contact with the steel substrate has been reduced by saw cutting at both ends of the *** damaged specimen and four intact specimens were subjected to quasi-static tensile testing;six specimens were used for compression *** strain distribution at the composite surface and at the steel to hardwood connection of the specimen was monitored by digital image correlation(DIC).DIC allowed identifying the onset of damage in the tensile tested joints near the interface of the composite layer and the steel-hardwood *** tensile and compression tested specimens failed due to significant peel strain concentration at the composite near the connection of steel and *** average strength of a specimen tested in compression was about 66%higher than the average strength of a specimen tested in *** strain concentration zone in the damaged specimen was away from the introduced saw *** a result the damaged and intact tensile specimens showed the same failure strength and *** specimens failed by adhesive failure between the composite-hardwood interface.

FEM analysis and experimental investigation of force and chip formation on hot turning of Inconel 625

This study investigates the hot machining of Inconel 625 alloy by using flame heating under different machining conditions using finite element analysis(FEM).Turning tests are performed at different cutting speeds and heating temperatures using uncoated carbide insert by DEFORM *** reduction in cutting force and tool wear has achieved at heating conditions compared to room *** tool life is achieved at the highest cutting speed and higher heating temperature *** heating conditions of the 600℃ continuous chip is formed whereas at room temperature saw-tooth chip formation is observed.A significant agreement is achieved between simulated and experimental cutting forces and chip *** effect of feed rates and depth of cuts are also studied experimentally during turning of Inconel 625 in a systematic manner.

Optimizing submerged arc welding using response surface methodology, regression analysis, and genetic algorithm

The weld quality is significantly affected by the weld parameters(arc voltage, welding current, nozzle to plate distance and welding speed) in the submerged arc welding(saw). Bead-on-plate welds were performed on stainless steel plates by automated saw machine. The experimental data were collected in accordance with the response surface methodology(RSM). In addition to RSM, the regression analysis was performed to set up inputeoutput relationships in the saw process. It was found that weld parameters define the geometry of weld bead and determine the mechanical properties of the joint. The influence of the input variables on weld bead geometry is represented as graphs. It was found that an increment in voltage increases the bead width but decreases the bead height, whereas the current increment result-in an increment in bead height and no change in bead width. The bead width and height decrease with the increment in the welding speed. With an increment in the nozzle-to-plate distance, bead width decrease, but bead height increases. The value of bead hardness increases with the increment in current but the increment in voltage and travel speed does not have a significant influence on the bead hardness. The predictions from the mathematical model developed and the corresponding experimental results are having a fair agreement. Further, the genetic algorithm(GA) is also used for predicting the weld bead geometry.

Experimental investigation and optimization of weld bead characteristics during submerged arc welding of AISI 1023 steel

Submerged arc welding(saw), owing to its high deposition rate and high welding quality, is widely used in the fabrication of pressure vessel, marine vessel, pipelines and offshore structures. However, selection of an optimum combination of welding parameters is critical in achieving high weld quality and productivity. In this work, initially, the saw experiments were performed using fractional factorial design to analyze the effect of direct and indirect input parameters, namely, welding voltage, wire feed rate,welding speed, nozzle to plate distance, flux condition, and plate thickness on weld bead geometrical responses viz. bead width, reinforcement, and penetration. The bead on plate technique was used to deposit weld metal on AISI 1023 steel plates. The effect of saw input parameters on response variables were analyzed using main and interaction effects. The linear regression was used to develop the mathematical models for the response variable. Then, the multi-objective optimization of input parameters was carried out using desirability approach, genetic algorithm and Jaya algorithm. The Jaya algorithm offered better optimization results as compared to desirability approach, genetic algorithm.

Spectrum handoff scheme with multiple attributes decision making for optimal network selection in cognitive radio networks

It is envisaged that in future Cognitive Radio (CR) networks deployment, multiple radio access networks may coexist. The networks may have different characteristics in terms of multiple attributes. CRs will have choices of selecting the optimal network out of the available networks. Optimal network selection is a challenging task that can be performed by spectrum handoff with Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM). The spectrum handoff decision with MADM provides wider and optimal choice with quality of service. This motivates the devolopment of a spectrum handoff scheme with MADM methods such as simple additive weighting, a technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution, a grey relational analysis and a cost function based method, which is the objective of this study. The CR preferences are based on voice, video and data services, called triple play services. The numerical results show that all MADM methods are effective for selecting the optimal network for spectrum handoff with a reduced complexity for the spectrum handoff decision. The paper shows that the proposed spectrum handoff scheme can be effectively implemented to select the optimal network according to triple play services in CR networks.
