Characteristics of mountain glacier surge hazard: learning from a surge event in NE Pamir, China

Abnormal glacier movement is likely to result in canyon-type hazards chain,such as the barrier lake of Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon formed by glacier debris flow in October 2018 in *** hazard usually evolves from the glacier surge and may occur in a regular *** the characteristics and process of glacier surge is important for early hazard recognition and hazard *** on field investigations,remote sensing interpretations and SAR offset-tracking surveys,this study confirms a typical glacier surge in the northeast Pamir,and presents its characteristics and processes."Black ice"mixed moraines choking uplift and overflowing lateral marine are the most important scenic characteristics,which were formed under the conditions of stagnant glacier downstream and abundant super-glacial *** movement event can be divided into a five-period cycle including quiescent,inoculation,initiation,fracture and *** surge event lasted for about 300 days,initiated in February 2015 developed extensive fracturing zone in spring and early summer at maximum velocity of 10±0.95 m/day,declined after August 2015 and recovered to quiescent status in October 2015 for the next *** average height of glacier"receiving"area increased by 20-40 m with 2.7-3.6×10^8 m^3 ice transferred from glacier"reservoir",and this volume accumulation again require 50-100 years for glacier mass balance which gives approximately 100 years frequency of the glacier ***,long-period increase of precipitation and temperature were favorable for the occurrence,hydrological instability is the direct triggering mechanism,and while the Glacier Lake Outburst Flood(GLOF)hazards are unlikely to occur with this surge.

Structural, morphological, Raman, optical, magnetic, and antibacterial characteristics of CeO2 nanostructures

In this study, CeO2 nanostructures were synthesized by a soft chemical method. A hydrothermal treatment was observed to lead to an interesting morphological transformation of the nanoparticles into homogeneous microspheres composed of nanosheets with an average thickness of 40 nm. Structural analysis revealed the formation of a single-phase cubic fluorite structure of CeO2 for both samples. A Raman spectroscopic study confirmed the XRD results and furthermore indicated the presence of a large number of oxygen vacancies in the nanosheets. These oxygen vacancies led to room-temperature ferromagnetism （RTFM） of the CeO2 nanosheets with enhanced magnetic characteristics. Amazingly, the nanosheets exhibited substantially greater antibacterial activity than the nanoparticles. This greater antibacte- rial activity was attributed to greater exposure of high-surface-energy polar surfaces and to the presence of oxygen vacancies.

Detecting mislabeling and identifying unique progeny in Acacia mapping population using SNP markers

Acacia hybrids offer a great potential for paper industry in Southeast Asia due to their fast growth and ability to grow on abandoned or marginal lands. Breeding Acacia hybrids with desirable traits can be achieved through marker assisted selection(MAS) breeding. To develop a MAS program requires development of linkage maps and QTL analysis. Two mapping populations were developed through interspecific hybridization for linkage mapping and QTL analysis. All seeds per pod were cultured initially to improve hybrid yield as quality and density of linkage mapping is affected by the size of the mapping population. Progenies from two mapping populations were field planted for phenotypic and genotypic evaluation at three locations in Malaysia,(1) Forest Research Institute Malaysia field station at Segamat, Johor,(2) Borneo Tree Seeds and Seedlings Supplies Sdn, Bhd.(BTS) field trial site at Bintulu, Sarawak, and(3) Asiaprima RCF field trial site at Lancang, Pahang. During field planting, mislabeling was reported at Segamat, Johor, and a similar problem was suspected for Bintulu, Sarawak. Early screening with two isozymes effectively selected hybrid progenies, and these hybrids were subsequently further confirmed by using species-specific SNPs. During field planting, clonal mislabeling was reported and later confirmed by using a small set of STMS markers. A large set of SNPs were also used to screen all ramets in both populations. A total of 65.36% mislabeled ramets were encountered in the wood density population and 60.34% in the fibre length mapping population. No interpopulation pollen contamination was detected because all ramets found their match within the same population in ***, mislabeling was detected among ramets of the same population. One of the key reasons contributing to a reduction in the performance of a solar photovoltaic(SPV)system is the presence of partial shade on the solar *** is necessary to use maximum power point tracking(MPPT)in SPV systems to get around the non-linear behaviour of photovoltaic *** research analyses the reduction in power output of SPV systems caused by partial *** the latter part of the paper,the improved dynamic behaviour-based ant colony optimization MPPT approach under the effect of module-level partial shading is implemented in MATLAB®/Simulink®.Various partial shading levels were applied to SPV modules to evaluate the system *** proposed system follows the maximum power point with 99.9%accuracy and a response time of 2 *** addition of a weight coefficient accelerates the convergence of the algorithm.

An innovative design of septic tank for wastewater treatment and its performance evaluation： An applicable model for developing countries

A study was carried out to evaluate the treatment efficiency of modified model of septic tank（ST）for the treatment of domestic *** objective was to explore the possibility of increasing the removal efficiency,at household level,thereby reducing cost and treatment burden on city level treatment *** this purpose,a bench scale model of ST was prepared and operated continuously for 78 days at different detention times i.e.,48,24 and 12 h and at two reactor temperatures viz.15℃ and 25℃.Domestic wastewater was fed to the bench scale ST without *** was conducted under two different ***,by installing baffles in the bench scale ST（called Run-1 setup）,and secondly by installing perforated plates between the baffles（called Run-2 setup）.Results demonstrated that Run-2 setup is better than Run-1 *** significantly affects the *** time of 24 h was found ***-2 setup demonstrated a percentage BOD removal of 45%with effluent BOD of 113 mg·L^-1 at 15℃ and 85%removal with effluent BOD of 31 mg·L^-1 at 25℃.It is concluded that if a modified design of ST using Run-2 setup is provided at household level,the effluent coming out of the house will meet the National Environmental Quality Standards（NEQS）when reactor temperature is close to 25℃.Development authorities are suggested to change their by-laws and make modified ST mandatory for all *** may significantly reduce the cost and footprint of city level wastewater treatment plants being planned.

Failure Mechanism and Stability Analysis of an Active Landslide in the Xiangjiaba Reservoir Area,Southwest China

Dam construction for hydropower development is a very important subject all around the world, especially in developing countries due to energy crises. Filling of reservoir lakes may trigger or reactivate landslides in reservoir area. Active landslides in populated districts in the Xiangjiaba Reservoir area have become a striking problem for residents, local government and construction engineers. The key objective of this study is to analyze the role of reservoir filling and fluctuation in the activation/reactivation of the landslide as well as the mechanism of landslide from microstructures of pre-sheared slip surface. A large active landslide with a total volume of 1.25 Mm^3 at the left margin of Jinsha River in Pingshan County of Sichuan Province, Southwest China, was selected as a case study. Field investigation, field monitoring and laboratory tests were carried out to find out the failure mechanism and the stability of the active landslide. The shear strength test and stability analysis confirm that the water level fluctuations have an adverse effect on slope stability. It is obvious from microstructure analysis that the clay minerals contribute to down-slope movement at micro-scale as well as presence of expansive minerals （e.g., montmorillonite） decreases the strength of soil due to water level rise.

Kidney infection is a severe medical issue affecting individuals worldwide and increasing mortality *** Kidney Disease(CKD)is treatable during its initial phases but can become irreversible and cause renal *** the various diseases,the most prevalent kidney conditions affecting kidney function are cyst growth,kidney tumors,and *** significant challenge for the medical community is the immediate diagnosis and treatment of kidney *** failure could result from kidney disorders like tumors,stones,and cysts if not often identified and ***-assisted diagnostics are necessary to support clinicians’and specialists’medical assessments due to the rising prevalence of chronic renal illness,the lack of experts,and the rising rates of assessment and monitoring,mainly in developing *** Intelligence(AI)approaches such as machine,and deep learning has been used in literature for kidney disease detection;however,they still lack *** paper implements a deep learning-based Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model for the classification and prognosis of kidney *** use a benchmark Computed Tomography(CT)kidney dataset for *** data is pre-processed,and then CNN extracts the features from the *** reveal that the proposed approach accurately classifies kidney disease with a considerable accuracy of 0.992%,0.994%precision,0.982%recall,and 0.987%*** study suggests using the proposed fine-tuned CNN model for kidney disease detection.

Copper oxide nanoparticles are an integral part of modern agrochemical industries,such as pesticides and nano *** has been extensively reviewed and reported that the interaction of nanoparticles with plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(PGPRs)may be toxic due to their accumulation in the soil and may remain in contact for a long time which causes a negative impact on the soil microbial *** study presented here,investigates the impact of the copper oxide nanoparticles on the isolated PGPR species Bacillius megaterium AGNTL MM7 in invitro *** observed that the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species(ROS)at¼of Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations(MIC)of CuO nanoparticles resulted in a decrease in the Indole Acetic Acid(IAA)production(83.02μg/ml)as the marker of the nanoparticles mediated stress on the Bacillus megaterium AGNTL *** minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)assay was observed at 4 mg/*** solubility of CuO nanoparticles was 0.014%and the Nanotracking analyzer estimated the mean average size 188 nm in a liquid medium such as *** Electron Microscopic(TEM)studies observed that the concentration of 1 mg/ml nanoparticles showed a strong affinity with cell envelope and caused a significant negative impact on the microorganism,resulting in 58%inhibition in IAA production was observed in comparison to the control i.e.,197.8μg/*** flow cytometric analysis also significantly validated the toxicity at the same concentration.

Privacy Preserved Brain Disorder Diagnosis Using Federated Learning
