Heavy Metal Concentrations in the Intertidal Gastropod Nerita lineata and Their Relationships to Those in Its Habitats:A Case Study in Dumai Coastal Waters

Concentrations of heavy metals in the intertidal gastropod Nerita lineata collected from 4 sampling stations in the intertidal zone of Dumai coastal waters have been analyzed and correlated with the respective metal concentrations in their *** objective of this study was to evaluate the possible relationships between heavy metal concentrations in the *** with metal concentrations in their habitat,which include seawater,algal mat,suspended particulate matter,and surface *** results showed that heavy metal concentrations in the sediment,***,suspended particulate matter,algal mat and surface seawater were found to be higher in stations closed to Dumai city center which has more industrial and anthropogenic *** mean concentrations of Cd,Cu,Pb,Zn,Ni and Fe in the *** collected from Dumai intertidal area were 4.14 μg/g,5.90 μg/g,44.43 μg/g,3.74 μg/g,20.73 μg/g,24.91 μg/g in shell;4.16 μg/g,7.31 μg/g,51.78 μg/g,17.63 μg/g,23.52 μg/g,30.60 μg/g in operculum and 0.71 μg/g,15.09 μg/g,9.41 μg/g,94.42 μg/g,5.10 μg/g,398.24 μg/g dry weight in the total soft tissue,***,Pb and Ni concentrations of parts of the *** were in the order:that of operculum>shell>soft tissue whilst Cu,Zn and Fe concentrations of parts of the *** in the order:that of soft tissue>operculum>*** suggested that *** could be used as biomonitoring agent for Cu,Zn and Fe(soft tissues)and for Cd,Pb and Ni(operculum).However,the shell had significant correlations(P<0.05)with metal concentrations in the sediment,algal mat,suspended particulate matter and *** factor(BCF)values of the shell also revealed greater capacity for non-essential metals bioaccumulation from all environmental *** might suggest that the shell of *** could be better used as biomonitoring agent for heavy metal pollution.

The Potential Efficacy of Glycyrrhizic Acid and Its Nanostructure Against Brown Rot of Peach fruits

Production of peaches(Prunus persica(L.)Batsch)for both local market and export is increasing each year in *** rot disease,caused by Monilinia laxa and Monilinia fructigena,is considered one of the most important postharvest rots affecting peaches in Egypt and economic losses are *** activity of glycyrrhizic acid nanoparticles(GA-NPs)and glycyrrhizic acid(GA)at 0.2 and 0.4 mmol/L was investigated as a control for both these brown rot pathogens on peach fruits in both in vitro and in vivo *** the in vitro studies,GA-NPs were the most effective as shown by the ability to decrease linear growth of both brown rot pathogens in potato dextrose agar(PDA)amended with 0.4 mmol/L *** of *** exposed to 0.4 mmol/LGA showed mycelial deformations,nodule formation,detachment of the cell wall,shrinkage and inhomogeneous cytoplasmic materials with large *** of *** exposed to 0.4 mmol/LGA-NPs resulted in thinner and distorted hyphae,nodule formation,cell wall thinning,and *** GANPs and GA treatments improved fruit quality by maintaining firmness and total soluble solids(TSS).GA-NPs were more effective in decreasing decay incidence than their bulk *** 0.4 mmol/L GA-NPs completely inhibited the disease on naturally infected peach fruits for both seasons of 2018 and ***,0.4 mmol/L GA-NPs reduced the disease incidence in inoculated fruits by 95(***)and 88%(***)in 2018 season and 96(***)and 85%(***)in 2019 *** conclusion,GA-NPs could enhance the resistance of peaches against brown rot caused by *** and ***.

Decoration of vertically aligned TiO2 nanotube arrays with WO3 particles for hydrogen fuel production

WO3 decorated photoelectrodes of titanium nanotube arrays （W-oxide TNTAs） were synthesized via a two-step process, namely, electrochemical oxidation of titanium foil and electrodeposition of W-oxide for various interval times of 1, 2, 3, 5, and 20 min to improve the photoelectrochemical performance and the amount of hydrogen generated. The synthesized photoelectrodes were characterized by various characterization techniques. The presence of tungsten in the modified TNTAs was confirmed using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDX）. Field emission scanning electron microscopy （FESEM） and high resolution transmission electron microscope （HRTEM） proved the deposition of W-oxide as small particles staked up on the surface of the tubes at lower deposition time whereas longer times produced large and aggregate particles to mostly cover the surface of TiO2 nanotubes. Additionally, the incorporation of WO3 resulted in a shift of the absorption edge toward visible light as confirmed by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and a decrease in the estimated band gap energy values hence, modified TNTAs facilitated a more efficient utilization of solar light for water splitting. From the photoelectrochemical measurement data, the optimal photoelectrode produced after 2 min of deposition time improved the photo conversion efficiency and the hydrogen generation by 30% compared to that of the pure TNTA.

Tethering of Homo and Block Glycopolymer Chains onto Montmorillonite Surface by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization

Well-defined homo glycopolymer/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposite (gly1) was prepared successfully by the “grafting from” technique from the modified surface of MMT via surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of 3-O-methacryloyl-1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose (gly) in the presence of Cu(I)Br/ bi- pyridyl at 90?C in xylene. Well-defined diblock copolymers (gly2, gly3, gly4 and gly5) were also synthesized via the same technique by using comonomers of methylmethacrylate (MMA) or styrene (St) with glycomonomer (gly) using the same catalytic system. The formed nanocomposites showed both intercalated and exfoliated structures, as judged by XRD and TEM measurements. Further analyses were performed on such nanocomposites to confirm their formation such as TGA and DSC. The structures of the attached polymers to MMT were characterized by 1H NMR.

<i>Salvadora persica</i>(Miswak): Antioxidant and Promising Antiangiogenic Insights

The use of plants to improve dental health and to promote oral hygiene has been practiced for centuries and persists in several communities throughout the world. Salvadora persica (Miswak) has a wide geographic distribution. The ancient Arabs had the habit of using it to whiten and polish the teeth. Here, we determined in vitro antioxidant activity, total phenols and flavonoids and evaluated antiproliferative activity of the extract of S. persica (Miswak). The MTT assay was used to estimate the antiproliferative activities of the extract against human hepatoma (HepG2) cancer cell line. Inhibition percentage of DPPH scavenging activity was dose-dependent and ranged from (30.7% ± 0.62) to (5.89% ± 0.98). The phenolic content was (2.7 ± 0.11) mg GAE/g while the flavonoid content was (2.70 ± 0.45) mg QE/g. Antiproliferative results of the extracts were found to be consistent with their antioxidant activity. Our extract also exhibited clear antiangiogenic activity. These findings introduce S. persica as the useful and novel potential anti-tumor agent for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment.

A comparative study of conventional and supercritical fluid extraction methods for the recovery of secondary metabolites from Syzygium campanulatum Korth

Syzygium campanulatum Korth is a plant, which is a rich source of secondary metabolites （especially flavanones, chalcone, and triterpenoids）. In our present study, three conventional solvent extraction （CSE） techniques and supercritical fluid extraction （SFE） techniques were performed to achieve a maximum recovery of two flavanones, chalcone, and two triterpenoids from S. campanulatum leaves. Furthermore, a Box-Behnken design was constructed for the SFE technique using pressure, temperature, and particle size as independent variables, and yields of crude extract, individual and total secondary metabolites as the dependent variables. In the CSE procedure, twenty extracts were produced using ten different solvents and three techniques （maceration, soxhletion, and reflux）. An enriched extract of five secondary metabolites was collected using n-hexane：methanol （1：1） soxhletion. Using food-grade ethanol as a modifier, the SFE methods produced a higher recovery （25.5%-84.9%） of selected secondary metabo- lites as compared to the CSE techniques （0.92%-66.00%）.

Purpose - This study examines the relationship between motivator and hygiene factors of the two-factor theory and job satisfaction of Gen-Y. Design/ Methodology/ Approach - Totally 128 full time Gen-Y employees of the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic officers completed a questionnaire measuring their motivator and hygiene factors and job satisfaction. The motivators were measured by work values questionnaire （WVQ） with 25 items, and job satisfaction was measured with a 15-item questionnaire adapted from Warr et al., （1979）. The scales for all questions were seven point Likert scales. Factor analysis, T-Test, regression, and One-way ANOVA were applied in the data analysis. Findings - The results revealed that employees’ motivators are related significantly to their intrinsic job satisfaction. However, employees’ hygiene factors are not significantly related to extrinsic job satisfaction. This result is inconsistent with the previous study of Furnham A. and Eracleous A. （2009） and supports Locke’s （1976） criticism of Herzberg’s theory. Research limitations - The limitation of this study was that it used self-report measure in investigating motivational factors as well as job satisfaction and therefore the defensive bias in self-reporting was not controlled. Originality/Value - This paper revealed that hygiene factors might not affect a person’s extrinsic job satisfaction in the Malaysian context and specifically among Malaysian Gen Y. Further research should be performed to find other factors influencing Gen Y’s job satisfaction.

Comparative Efficacy of Different Inactivated Hydro-Pericardium Syndrome Vaccines Prepared from Infected Liver and Vero Cell Line Adapted Adeno Type 4 Virus

Hydro-Pericardium Syndrome (HPS) is viral problem of commercial poultry caused by aviadeno virus type-4. In Pakistan the problems have been controlled by administering inactivated infected liver homogenate vaccine (ILHV). The use of liver based HPS vaccines remained potential threat for having hypersensitivity reactions in poultry. The current study was carried out to compare the serological potency of HPS ILHV to vero cell line adopted vaccine in term of anti HPS-ELISA antibody titers. 14 HPS virus vaccines were prepared based on different concentration of antigen, type of adjuvants and source of virus substrate. Total of 160 birds were divided into 16 groups each containing 10 birds. At day of 14th age each bird of every group was injected with 0.3 ml dose of respective vaccine. It was observed that HPS infected liver based vaccine having 1 × 105.6, 1 × 105.6 and 1 × 103.6 bird lethal dose 50 induced 1092.10, 875.25 and 702.2 anti-HPS ELISA antibody titer respectively. The 20, 25 and 30 doses/gm HPS infected liver vaccine induced 110.4, 1071.9 and 1037.8 anti-HPS ELISA antibody titer respectively. Montanide based tissue culture HPS vaccine showed significantly higher 1148.45 anti-HPS ELISA antibody titer to aluminium hydroxide based vaccine (137.2) (P 5.6 TCID50 is serological potent against field infection. The vaccines based on such formulation could be prepared in future for effective immuno-prophylaxis against HPS virus.

Cotton is an economically important natural fiber in the world, whose seeds are used as food and fiber used in the manufacturing of textiles. Cotton is naturally a renewable synthetic fiber which is derived from petroleum. Restriction in conventional breeding program to hereditary change may be because of those of information something like yield revenue and fiber quality of traits. Vitally, the genome representation of the cotton for various traits is the basic need for breeding purposes. The present review discusses the issues of conventional breeding and genomics resources & efforts are utilized to enhance the yield of cotton.
