Comparative Toxicity of Neem and Peppermint Oils Nano Formulations against Agrotis ipsilon(hufn.)Larvae(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae)

Applications of nanotechnology in agriculture will result in the development of efficient and potential approa.hes towards the management of insect *** toxicity effects of four essential oils peppermint,thyme,camphor and sage oils were tested against the fourth instar larvae of Agrotis ipsilon to select the most effective essential oil to be converted to the nano *** to the results obtained,peppermint oil was the most toxic compound,which has been used in the present investigation compared with neem *** toxicity of bulk and nano-formulations of neem and pepper mint oils were tested against 2nd and 4th instar larvae of *** under laboratory conditions of 25±2°C&65-70%*** humidity The results show that the LC50 value(the concentration used which kill 50%of the tested individuals)of loaded neem or pepper mint were lower(0.62 and 36.47 ppm)compared with neem or pepper mint oil nano-emulsion and bulk neem for the second larval *** different formulations of neem are more potent than in case of peppermint oil,as LC50 and LC90 values were significantly *** same trend was found concerning the 4th larval *** of treated larvae had a detrimental effect on the response to the compounds *** was noticed that the younger larvae were much more sensitive to the prepared compounds compared to the older *** least LC50 value for loaded neem nano-emulsion was 6.68 ppm compared with the highest value for bulk neem oil(16.68 ppm).Also,LC90 values followed the same trend as in case ***,the toxicity of loaded peppermint oil had the most insecticidal activity as expressed by the lowest LC50 value(51.9 ppm)with more insecticidal effect than the bulk(125.43 ppm)or nano-emulsion(85.43 ppm).The present results indicated that these novel systems could be used in integrated pest management program for *** control.

Analysis of stress and failure in rock specimens with closed and open flaws on the surface

The influence of closed and open surface flaws on the stress distribution and failure in rock specimens is *** finite element models are developed to simulate the compression tests on flawed rock *** simulated specimens include those with closed flaws and those with open flaws on the *** analyses are conducted to investigate the influences of the flaw inclination,friction coefficient and the confining stress on failure *** results show significant differences in the stress,displacement,and failure behavior of the closed and open flaws when they are subjected to pure compression;however,their behaviors under shear and tensile loads are *** to the results,when compression is the dominant mode of stress applied to the flaw surface,an open flaw may play a destressing role in the rock and relocate the stress concentration and failure *** presented results in this article suggest that failure at the rock surface may be managed in a favorable manner by fabricating open flaws on the rock *** insights gained from this research can be helpful in managing failure at the boundaries of rock structures.

Calculation of hildebrand Solubility Parameters of Some Polymers Using QSPR Methods Based on LS-SVM Technique and Theoretical Molecular Descriptors

In this work, some chemometrics methods are applied for the modeling and prediction of the hildebrand solubility parameter of some polymers. A genetic algorithm （GA） method is designed for the selection of variables to construct two models using the multiple linear regression （MLR） and least square-support vector ma.hine （LS-SVM） methods in order to predict the hildebrand solubility parameter. The MLR method is used to build a linear relationship between the molecular descriptors and the hildebrand solubility parameter for these compounds. Then the LS-SVM method is utilized to construct the non-linear quantitative structure-activity relationship （QSAR） models. The results obtained using the LS-SVM method are then compared with those obtained for the MLR method; it was revealed that the LS-SVM model was much better than the MLR one. The root-mean-square errors of the training set and the test set for the LS-SVM model were 0.2912 and 0.2427, and the correlation coefficients were 0.9662 and 0.9518, respectively. This paper provides a new and effective method for predicting the hildebrand solubility parameter for some polymers, and also reveals that the LS-SVM method can be used as a powerful chemometrics tool for the quantitative structure-property relationship （QSPR） studies.

Vitamin D deficiency: Correlation to interleukin-17, interleukin-23 and PⅢNP in hepatitis C virus genotype 4

AIM: To assess vitamin D (Vit D) abnormalities in hepatitis C infected patients and their relationship with interleukin (IL)-17, IL-23 and N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅲ pro-collagen (PⅢNP) as immune response mediators. METhODS: The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian patients (36 male, 14 female) with hepatitis C virus (hCV) infection, who visited the hepatology Outpatient Clinic in the Endemic Disease hospital at Cairo University. Patients were compared with 25 ageand sexmatched healthy individuals. Inclusion criteria were based on a.history of liver disease with hCV genotype 4 (hCV-4) infection (as new patients or under followup). Based on ultrasonogra.hy, patients were classified into four subgroups; 14 with bright hepatomegaly; 11 with perihepatic fibrosis; 11 with hepatic cirrhosis; and 14 with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC).Total Vit D (i.e., 25-Oh-Vit D) and active Vit D [i.e., 1,25-(Oh) 2 -Vit D] assays were carried out using commercial kits. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were assayed using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, while hCV virus was measured by quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Levels of Vit D and its active form were significantly lower in advanced liver disease (hepatic cirrhosis and/or carcinoma) patients, compared to those with bright hepatomegaly and perihepatic fibrosis. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were markedly increased in hCV patients and correlated with the progression of hepatic damage. The decrease in Vit D and active Vit D was concomitant with an increase in viral load, as well as levels of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP among all subgroups of hCV-infected patients, compared to normal healthy controls. A significant negative correlation was evident between active Vit D and ea.h of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP (r = -0.679, -0.801 and -0.920 at P hCV-infected men and women showed no differences with respect to Vit D levels. Numerical study on rock failure around a tunnel destressed by a conceptualized notched technique

A destressing method for reducing the strainburst risk in burst-prone grounds is *** this method,the rock is destressed by cutting notches at the excavation ***,the concept of the proposed method is described both analytically and ***,the method is applied to a tunneling *** numerical models are built to study the destressing process and the failure mechanism around a circular *** show that when the notch is added to the model,the rock at the tunnel wall is destressed,and the stress concentration zones shift to a farther distance away from the ***,the analysis of the failure zone around the tunnel and the velocity of the failed elements show that the failure in the notched tunnel is less violent compared to that in the tunnel without the ***,a parametric study is conducted to investigate the influences of the notch dimensions on the stress distribution,deformation,and failures around the tunnel.

In this study,a.harmonic oscillator with position-dependent mass is ***,as an introduction,we give a full description of the system by constructing its classical Lagrangian;thereupon,we derive the related classical equations of motion such as the classical Euler–Lagrange ***,we fractionalize the classical Lagrangian of the system,and then we obtain the corresponding fractional Euler–Lagrange equations(FELEs).As a final step,we give the numerical simulations corresponding to the FELEs within different fractional *** results based on the Caputo and the Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo(ABC)fractional derivatives are given to verify the theoretical analysis.

Insecticidal efficacy of three vegetable oils as post-harvest grain protectants of stored wheat against Rhyzopertha dominica （F.）（Coleoptera： Bostrychidae）

The lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica is a major insect pests of stored grain in the tropics. Vegetable oils （chamomile, sweet almond and coconut） at 2.5, 3.5, 5.0, 7.0 and 10.0 mL/kg were tested against Rhyzopertha dominica （F.） in wheat grain. All bioassays were conductr, d at 30℃ and 65% ＋ 2% Rh. Treatments with vegetable oils at high dose （10.0 mL/kg） a.hieved over 95% control within 24 h of exposure to freshly treated grain, There was little difference between the three oils in their effect. Persistence of oils in grains was tested at short-term storage intervals （48, 72 and 96 h） and intermediate-term intervals （10, 20 and 30 days） after treatments. The activity of all products decreased with storage period. Seed viability was reduced by the high dose rate （10.0 mL/kg） of oil treatments. The potential use of vegetable oils as supplementary or alternative grain protectants against insect damage in traditional grain storage in developing countries is discussed.

Robust half-Metallicity in a Chromium-Substituted AlN

We investigate half metallicity in a chromium(Cr)-substituted AlN dilute magnetic semiconductor using the full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave *** results show that Al_(0.75)Cr_(0.25)N is half metal and holds a net integer magnetic moment of 3μβwith lattice *** half−metallic nature is maintained from the relaxed lattice constant 4.36Åto 4.09Å.An abrupt change of the physical properties is observed at a robust transition lattice constant of 4.09Å,and the material transforms from half metal to *** find that up to 6%compression,the material maintains its half-metallic ***,we also confirm that the origin of ferromagnetism in Al_(0.75)Cr_(0.25)N is double exchange.

Effects of initial wettability and different surfactant-silica nanoparticles flooding scenarios on oil-recovery from carbonate rocks

Initial wettability of rock surfaces plays a crucial role in displacement efficiency during core flooding *** this study,linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid(LABSA)and silica nanoparticles(NPs)were utilized as enhanced oil recovery(EOR)agents to improve oil recovery from carbonate rock *** to the core flooding experiments,effects of the presence of LABSA and SiO_(2)NPs on oil-water interfacial tension(IFT),wettability alteration,and surfactant adsorption on the rock surfaces were *** results of IFT/contact angle measurements showed that by adding 0.03 wt%LABSA,the IFT,and contact angle reduced from the initial values of 36.9 mN/m and 115.6°±0.2°to 8.3 mN/m and 100.3°±0.4°,***,incorporating SiO_(2)NPs(0.1 wt%)into the system causes a further decrease in IFT value(dropped to 2.2 mN/m),along with a substantial reduction in contact angle(final contact angle after 6 h soaking into the solution was measured as 64.8°±0.3°).In addition,surfactant loss due to the adsorption on the rock surfaces decreased up to 35%in the presence of SiO_(2)NPs(0.1 wt%).Moreover,various core flooding scenarios in carbonate plugs with different initial wettability conditions were conducted,and the performance of the EOR agents in enhancing oil recovery from oilwet and water-wet core samples in the secondary and tertiary mode of flooding was *** outcomes revealed that the injection of a combination of chemicals,containing LABSA(0.03 wt%)and SiO_(2)(0.1 wt%)in the secondary mode leads to the highest ultimate oil recovery from sister carbonate core samples.
