Pregna.cy is a.complex physiologica. process involving severa. interconnected systems. Ma.y resea.chers were concerned tha. the forma.ion of a.fetus with different genetic components ma. contra.ict the norma. sta.e of immunity, which a.tempts to reject a.d fight foreign bodies. This piqued the interest of biologists a.d immunologists, who set out to discover the immune system’s composition a.d mode of response in the uterus. a.cording to severa. studies, na.ura. killer (NK) cells a.e present in a.significa.t percenta.e tha. differs from wha. is seen in periphera. blood. a. a.result, severa. scientific studies ha.e been conducted on uterine NK cells, investiga.ing their types, cha.a.teristics, receptors, secretions, a.d intera.tions with the surrounding environment. Resea.ch ha. a.so indica.ed the ca.a.ity of uterine NK cells to strike a.ba.a.ce between era.ica.ing uterine infections a.d effectively contributing to different pha.es of pregna.cy. Va.ious studies ha.e shown tha. NK cell a.tivity is intima.ely rela.ed to the success or fa.lure of pregna.cy. In this review, we describe the uterine NK cell subtypes;decidua. (dNK) cells a.d endometria. NK cells (eNK) cells a.d their importa.t role during different pha.es of pregna.cy.
