Objectives: This study aims to describe birth weight and its variations concerning maternal characteristics as well as to standardize birth weight curves for Qatari and expatriate’s newborn population born in the state of Qatar. Methods: PEARL-Peristat registry is a National maternal-neonatal observation epidemiologic database project where both maternal and neonatal cohort data are collected to evaluate specified outcomes for a population defined by a disease, conditions, or exposures. Results: Out of 50,535 singleton deliveries, only 44,178 live-born infants were included in this study. The LBW rate has remained constant since 2011 and was reported as 2.4% in males and 3.5% in females. The average total LBW was 3%. In recent days,advancements in the Internet of Things(IoT)and cloud computing(CC)technologies have emerged in different application areas,particularly *** use of IoT devices in healthcare sector often generates large amount of data and also spent maximum energy for data transmission to the cloud ***,energy efficient clustering mechanism is needed to effectively reduce the energy consumption of IoT *** the same time,the advent of deep learning(DL)models helps to analyze the healthcare data in the cloud server for decision *** this motivation,this paper presents an intelligent disease diagnosis model for energy aware cluster based IoT healthcare systems,called IDDM-EAC *** proposed IDDM-EAC technique involves a 3-stage process namely data acquisition,clustering,and disease *** addition,the IDDM-EAC technique derives a chicken swarm optimization based energy aware clustering(CSOEAC)technique to group the IoT devices into clusters and select cluster heads(CHs).Moreover,a new coyote optimization algorithm(COA)with deep belief network(DBN),called COA-DBN technique is employed for the disease diagnostic *** COA-DBN technique involves the design of hyperparameter optimizer using COA to optimally adjust the parameters involved in the DBN *** order to inspect the betterment of the IDDM-EAC technique,a wide range of experiments were carried out using real time data from IoT devices and benchmark data from UCI *** experimental results demonstrate the promising performance with the minimal total energy consumption of 63%whereas the EEPSOC,ABC,GWO,and ACO algorithms have showcased a higher total energy consumption of 69%,78%,83%,and 84%correspondingly.

Monoclonal antibodies are attractive therapeutic agents in a wide range of human disorders that bind specifically to their target through their complementary-determining regions(CDRs).Small proteins with structurally preserved CDRs are promising antibodies *** this in silico study,we presented new antibody mimetics against the cancer marker epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)created by the CDRs grafting *** potential graft acceptor sites that efficiently immobilize the grafted CDR loops were selected from three small protein scaffolds using a *** three most involved CDR loops in antibody-receptor interactions extracted from panitumumab antibody against the EGFR domain III crystal structure were then grafted to the selected scaffolds through the loop randomization *** combination of three CDR loops and 10 grafting sites revealed that three of the 36 combinations showed specific binding to EGFR DIII by binding energy ***,the present strategy and selected small protein scaffolds are promising tools in the design of new binders against EGFR with high binding energy.

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related *** stem cells(CSCs) in CRC, which are spared by many chemotherapeutics,have tumorigenic capacity and are believed to be the reason behind cancer relapse. So far, there have been no effective drugs to target colon CSCs. Diiminoquinone(DIQ) has shown promising effects on targeting colon ***, there is limited research on the effects of DIQ on eradicating CSCs in *** To investigate the anticancer potential of DIQ on colon CSCs in two-dimensional(2D) and three-dimensional(3D) models using colonospheres and patient-derived *** Various 2D methods have been used to assess the effect and the mechanism of DIQ on HCT116and HT29 cell lines including cell proliferation and viability assays, migration and invasion assays,immunofluorescence staining, and flow cytometry. The potency of DIQ was also assessed in 3D culture using the sphere formation assay and colon cancer patient-derived organoid *** Our results showed that DIQ significantly inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in HCT116 and HT29 cell lines. DIQ treatment induced apoptosis along with an accumulation of HCT116 and HT29 cancer cells in the sub-G1 region and an increase in reactive oxygen species in both CRC cell lines. DIQ reduced sphere-forming and self-renewal ability of colon cancer HCT116and HT29 stem/progenitor cells at sub-toxic doses of 1 μmol/L. Mechanistically, DIQ targets CSCs by downregulating the main components of stem cell-related-catenin, AKT, and ERK oncogenic signaling pathways. Potently, DIQ displayed a highly significant decrease in both the count and the size of the organoids derived from colon cancer patients as compared to control and 5-fluorouracil *** This study is the first documentation of the molecular mechanism of the novel anticancer therapeutic DIQ via targeting CSC, a promising compound that needs further investigation.

This study aims to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with developing healthcare infrastructure in Saudi Arabia through the implementation of smart technologies. The healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia is undergoing significant transformation, and the integration of smart technologies has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and enhance the overall healthcare experience. However, several challenges need to be addressed in order to fully leverage the benefits of smart technologies in healthcare infrastructure development. This research identifies and analyzes these challenges while also highlighting the opportunities that arise from the adoption of smart technologies in the Saudi Arabian healthcare system. The findings contribute to the understanding of the current state of healthcare infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and provide insights into the strategies and policies required to overcome challenges and maximize the benefits of smart technologies in healthcare.

Immunohistochemical CD3 staining detects additional patients with celiac disease

AIM: To investigate whether performing immuno-histochemical CD3 staining, in order to improve the detection of intra-epithelial lymphocytosis, has an additional value in the histological diagnosis of celiac ***: Biopsies obtained from 159 children were stained by hematoxylin and eosin(HE) and evaluated using the Marsh classification. CD3 staining was subsequently evaluated separately and ***: Differences in evaluation between the routine HE sections and CD3 staining were present in 20(12.6%) cases. In 10(6.3%) patients the diagnosis of celiac disease(Marsh Ⅱ and Ⅲ) changed on examination of CD3 staining: in 9 cases, celiac disease had initially been missed on the HE sections, while 1 patient had been over-diagnosed on the routine sections. In all patients, the final diagnosis based on CD3 staining, was concordant with serological results, which was not found previously. In the other 10(12.3%) patients, the detection of sole intra-epithelial lymphocytosis(Marsh Ⅰ) improved. Nine patients were found to have Marsh Ⅰ on CD3 sections, which had been missed on routine sections. Interestingly, the only patient with negative serology had Giardiasis. Finally, in 1 patient with negative serology, in whom Marsh Ⅰ was suspected on HE sections, this diagnosis was withdrawn after evaluation of the CD3 ***: Staining for CD3 has an additional value in the histological detection of celiac disease lesions, and CD3 staining should be performed when there is a discrepancy between serology and the diagnosis made on HE sections.

The exact risk association of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)for surgeons is not quantified which may be affected by their risk of exposure and individual *** objective of this review is to quantify the risk of COVID-19 among surgeons,and explore whether facemask can minimise the risk of COVID-19 among surgeons.A systematised review was carried out by searching MEDLINE to locate items on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or COVID-19 in relation to health care workers(HCWs)especially those work in surgical specialities including surgical nurses and ***,systematic reviews that assessed the effectiveness of facemask against viral respiratory infections,including COVID-19,among HCWs were *** from identified articles were abstracted,synthesised and *** primary studies that provided data on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection or experience among surgeons and 11 systematic reviews that provided evidence of the effectiveness of facemask(and other personal protective equipment)were *** the risk of COVID-19 could not be quantified precisely among surgeons,about 14%of HCWs including surgeons had COVID-19,there could be variations depending on *** was found to be somewhat protective against COVID-19,but the HCWs’compliance was highly variable ranging from zero to 100%.Echoing surgical societies’guidelines we continue to recommend facemask use among surgeons to prevent COVID-19.

Launching a paradigm for first and redo-surgery in primary congenital glaucoma: institutional experience

AIM: To evaluate the outcome of the initial and the redo-surgeries for primary congenital glaucoma(PCG) correlated to its degree of severity. METHODS: A retrospective study involved patients with PCG presented between 2010 and 2018. Medical records were reviewed to assess the degree of the preoperative severity according to the intraocular pressure(IOP), corneal diameter and corneal edema. Success and failure rates were calculated for both first and redo-surgeries at 6 and 12 mo respectively then correlated to the severity of the cases. RESULTS: Complete records were retrieved for 272 eyes(153 patients) with PCG: 43 eyes were mild, 136 moderate and 93 severe. Combined trabeculotomy and trabeculectomy(CTT) had the highest success rate in moderate(96.4%) and severe cases(59.3%) while trabeculotomy had the highest success rate in mild cases(96.3%). Medical records of 88 eyes(63 patients) with recurrent PCG were analyzed, most with severe presentation(59 eyes). Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV) was used in 67(76%) eyes and augmented trabeculectomy in 21(24%) eyes. At 12 mo, there was no statistically significant difference between both surgeries in total success rate(P=0.256). For mild cases, success rate was 100% for both surgeries. Severe cases had higher success rates following AGV(87%) than augmented trabeculectomy(20%). Preoperative severity of the disease was an independent factor affecting the failure rate in secondary trabeculectomy but not in AGV. Patients younger than 24 mo had higher probabilities of failure following both redo-surgeries with hazard ratio =1.325 and 0.37 for augmented trabeculectomy and AGV respectively. CONCLUSION: Preoperative assessment of the severity of eyes with PCG helps in the selecting the optimal primary and secondary surgery. For first surgery, trabeculotomy is more effective in mild cases whereas; CTT and augmented subscleral trabeculectomy(SST) are appropriate for moderate and severe cases.
