Experimental and numerical investigation of iron ore pellet firing using coupled CFD-DEM method

Iron ore pellets are the main feedstock in ironmaking processes. While extensive research has addressed numerical modeling of the iron ore pellet induration process, little effort has been made to describe the intricate thermochemical processes occurring within the reactor starting from the pellet and particularly at the intra-particle scale. In this regard, discrete-continuous methods like CFD-DEM can generate more realistic, irregular particle assemblies, which leads to significantly more accurate predictions of voidage variation, wall effects, temperature distribution, and associated mass transfer phenomena. This study presents a numerical model based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) coupled with the discrete element method (DEM) to simulate the thermal induration process of iron ore pellets. The presented model solving heat, mass, and momentum conservation equations for both continuous and discrete phases, provides detailed information on the thermochemical aspects of the process. Pilot-scale induration experiment was conducted to validate model predictions in terms of thermal history and final conversion fraction. It was found that inlet charge specifications, such as particle and pellet size, significantly impact the productivity of pelletizing plants, highlighting the potential of the presented model to optimize the process and improve plant productivity. Massive Dirac particles based on gapped graphene with Rosen-Morse potential in a uniform magnetic field

We explore the gapped graphene structure in the two-dimensional plane in the presence of the Rosen-Morse potential and an external uniform magnetic *** order to describe the corresponding structure,we consider the propagation of electrons in graphene as relativistic fermion quasi-particles,and analyze it by the wave functions of two-component spinors with pseudo-spin symmetry using the Dirac ***,to solve and analyze the Dirac equation,we obtain the eigenvalues and eigenvectors using the Legendre differential *** that,we obtain the bounded states of energy depending on the coefficients of Rosen-Morse and magnetic potentials in terms of quantum numbers of principal n and spin-orbit ***,the values of the energy spectrum for the ground state and the first excited state are calculated,and the wave functions and the corresponding probabilities are plotted in terms of coordinates *** what follows,we explore the band structure of gapped graphene by the modified dispersion relation and write it in terms of the two-dimensional wave vectors K_(x) and K_(y).Finally,the energy bands are plotted in terms of the wave vectors K_(x) and K_(y) with and without the magnetic term.

In this paper,the determination of Thiram fungicide by a novel modified screen-printed carbon electrode(SPCE)fabricated modifying the working electrode(WE)with 2D-GO/WS2nanohybrid composites,is *** electron microscopy(SEM),Raman spectroscopy,and fluorescence analysis(PL)were used to reveal the morphological and microstructural characteristics of the 2D-GO/WS2 nanohybrids with different graphene oxide:tungsten disulphide(GO:WS_(2))*** characterization demonstrated that the 2D-WS2/GO nanohybrids having a GO:WS_(2)ratio=2:1 shows the highest electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of *** developed sensor permits the quantification of Thiram in the linear range 0.083-0.33μM with a limit of detection(LOD)of 0.02μM,which is below the legal limits for this fungicide in drinking water or foods.

Developing Healthcare Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia Using Smart Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities

This study aims to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with developing healthcare infrastructure in Saudi Arabia through the implementation of smart technologies. The healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia is undergoing significant transformation, and the integration of smart technologies has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and enhance the overall healthcare experience. However, several challenges need to be addressed in order to fully leverage the benefits of smart technologies in healthcare infrastructure development. This research identifies and analyzes these challenges while also highlighting the opportunities that arise from the adoption of smart technologies in the Saudi Arabian healthcare system. The findings contribute to the understanding of the current state of healthcare infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and provide insights into the strategies and policies required to overcome challenges and maximize the benefits of smart technologies in healthcare.

Efficacy and safety of bamlanivimab in patients with COVID-19:A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Monoclonal antibodies(mAbs)have shown clinical benefits against coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Several studies have reported the use of bamlanivimab as a promising treatment option for *** To synthesize the latest evidence for the efficacy and safety of bamlanivimab alone in the treatment of adult patients with *** A literature search was conducted in PubMed,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,medRxiv,and Google Scholar using“SARS-CoV-2”,“COVID-19”,“LY-CoV555”,and“Bamlanivimab”keywords up to January 25,*** quality of included studies was assessed using the Cochrane bias *** Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software version 3.0 was used to analyze the *** A total of 30 studies involving 47368 patients were included.A significant difference was observed between the bamlanivimab and standard of care/placebo groups in terms of mortality rate[risk ratio(RR)=50,95%confidence interval(CI):0.36-0.70],hospitalization rate(RR=0.51;95%CI:0.39-0.68),and emergency department(ED)visits(RR=0.69;95%CI:0.47-0.99);while the two groups exhibited no significant difference in terms of intensive care unit(ICU)admission(P>0.05).Compared to other mAbs,bamlanivimab was associated with a higher rate of hospitalization(RR=1.44;95%CI:1.07-1.94).However,no significant difference was detected between the bamlanivimab and other mAbs groups in terms of mortality rate,ICU admission,and ED(P>0.05).The incidence of any adverse events was similar between the bamlanivimab and control groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Although the results suggest the efficacy and safety of bamlanivimab in COVID-19 patients,further research is required to confirm the efficacy of this drug for the current circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants.

In this paper, we analyze the enthalpy, enthalpy energy density, thermodynamic volume, and the equation of state of a modified white hole. We obtain new possible mathematical connections with some sectors of Number Theory, Ramanujan Recurring Numbers, DN Constant and String Theory, that enable us to extract the quantum geometrical properties of these thermodynamic equations and the implication to the quantum vacuum spacetime geometry of our early universe as they act as the constraints to the nature of quantum gravity of the universe.

Scenario-Based Assessment of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Kuwait: Insights for Effective Resource Management

The interdependency among water, food, and energy (WEF) in the GCC countries is strongly and closely interlinked, and is intensifying as demand for resources increases with population growth and changing consumption patterns, and are expected to be further compounded by the impacts of climate change. Therefore, integrated management of the three sectors is crucial to reduce trade-offs and build synergies among them. This paper presents a comprehensive framework to assess the WEF nexus in Kuwait as a representative case for the GCC countries. The framework consists of three main steps: 1) evaluating the influence of socio-economic development and climate change on water, energy, and food resources;2) generating scenario-based projections;and 3) conducting an extensive quantitative nexus analysis. The WEF interlinkages in Kuwait are modelled quantitatively using the Q-Nexus model, and current critical interdependencies are evaluated. Then, various WEF-Nexus scenarios were conducted for the year 2035 to explore the effects of management interventions in one sector on the other two sectors. The main findings are that per capita municipal water consumption is a major influencer on the WEF-nexus due to the heavy reliance on thermal desalination in municipal water supply in Kuwait, which is attributed to its energy intensity, financial cost, GHGs emissions, and environmental impacts on the marine and air environments. To reduce WEF trade-offs, mitigate risks, and build synergies among the three sectors, it is important to shift the current policy focus on supply-side management approach to the demand-side management and efficiency approaches.

Key Factors to Consider When Introducing a New Vaccine in Low-Income Settings: Lessons from Malawi Expanded Program on Immunization

Introduction: As new vaccines become available, countries must assess the relevance to introduce them into their vaccination schedules. Malawi has recently introduced several new vaccines and plans to introduce more. This study was conducted to identify key factors that need to be considered when deciding to introduce a new vaccine and current challenges faced by low and middle income countries using Malawi as an example. Methodology: The study employed a desk review approach, examining published literature from various sources such as PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar. Policy documents from organizations like the World Health Organization, GAVI the Alliance, and the Ministry of Health for Malawi were also included. A total of 99 articles and documents on new vaccine introduction, challenges of immunization, policy documents in immunization and health systems strengthening were included. The review focused on addressing five key areas critical to new vaccine introduction namely: the need for a vaccine, availability of the vaccine, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, demand for the vaccine, and the prudent use of public or private funds. Results: Malawi considered the burden of cervical cancer and the significance of malaria in the country when introducing the HPV and malaria vaccines. The country opted for vaccines that can be handled by the cold chain capacity and available human resources. Despite that malaria vaccine and Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine trials were done in country, there are limited vaccine safety and efficacy trials conducted in Malawi, leading to a reliance on WHO-prequalified vaccines. Demand for newly introduced vaccines varied, with high demand for Oral Cholera Vaccine during a cholera outbreak, while demand for COVID-19 vaccines decreased over time.
