Carbon dots(CDs), as a new member of carbon nanostructures, have been widely applied in extensive fields due to their exceptional physicochemical properties. While, the emissions of most reported CDs are located in the blue to green range under the excitation of ultraviolet or blue light, which severely limits their practical applications, especially in photovoltaic and biological fields. Studies that focused on synthesizing CDs with long-wavelength(red to near-infrared) emission/excitation features(simply named L-w CDs) and exploring their potential applications have been frequently reported in recent years. In this review, we analyzed the key influence factors for the synthesis of CDs with long wavelength and multicolor(containing long wavelength) emissive properties, discussed possible fluorescence mechanism,and summarized their applications in sensing and cancer theranostics. Finally, the existing challenges and potential opportunities of L-w CDs are presented.

Higher Body Mass Index is an Independent Predictor of Left Atrial Enlargement

Background: The influence of obesity on the cardiac geometry is less clear. Our objective was to determine if body mass index (BMI) was an independent predictor of left atrial enlargement (LAE) relative to lv thickness, dimension and function. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 90 consecutive patients with available echocardiographic data was performed. Patients were categorized into those with LAE (defined as >4.0 cm in transverse dimension by M-mode, n = 36) and those with normal LA size (n = 54). The clinical and echocardiographic variables were compared between the two groups. Results: Compared to patients with normal LA size, patients with LAE had significantly higher BMI (32 ± 8 vsi ± 8, p = 0.006), greater lv thickness, increased lv cavity dimension, and depressed lv systolic function. BMI was a strong and independent predictor of LAE. Left ventricular thickness and lv end-diastolic (lvED) dimension were other independent predictors of LAE. After adjusting for the significant effects of lv thickness and lv diameter, every unit increase in BMI resulted in an 8% increase in the odds of having LAE. Conclusions: 1) Higher BMI is an independent predictor of LAE. 2) Presence of lv enlargement and lv systolic dysfunction in these patients suggests that in the face of higher BMI, cardiac workload may exceed the compensatory lv hypertrophy and 3) LAE may be a consequence of the greater force developed by the LA to fill the lv.

PV Based Microgrid with Grid-Support Grid-Forming Inverter Control-(Simulation and Analysis)

Microgrid (MG) is a small entity of electrical network which comprises of various Distributed Generation (DG) sources, storage devices, and group of loads in various classes. MG provides reliable and secure energy supply to the critical loads of communities while operating either in on-grid or off-grid mode. In this study, a coordinated power management control strategy for a typical low voltage (lv) MG network with integration of solar Photovoltaic (PV) and storage facility has been developed and analysed in Matlab-Simu-link software environment at various modes (on-grid, off-grid, and on-grid to off-grid transition) of MG operation. Solar PV and battery power inverters are considered as grid-support grid-forming (GsGfm) Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) with the implementation of modified droop and virtual output impedance control strategies. Proposed control strategy supports coordinated control operation between PV units and battery storage, equal power sharing among the DG sources, and smooth MG mode transition with regulation of voltage and frequency level in MG network. In addition, voltage and current THD level were analysed and verified as per the standard of AS4777.

Yield and Quality of Forage Oat (<i>Avena sativa</i>L.) Cultivars as Affected by Seed Inoculation with Nitrogenous Strains

Nitrogen availability can be enhanced with the application of nitrogen fixing bacteria and it may be helpful in increasing forage yield and improving quality of oat. Therefore, a field trial to evaluate the effect of seed inoculation with nitrogen fixing bacteria on forage yield and quality of oat was carried out at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during Rabi season 2013-14. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with factorial arrangements using three replications. The experiment was comprised of two integrated approaches. The first approach was oat cultivars consisting of four treatments, V1 (AVON), V2 (S-2000), V3 (S-2011) and V4 (PD2lv65) and the second approach was seed inoculation consisting of three treatments, S0 (control), S1 (Azotobacter spp.), S2 (Azospirillum spp.). Fisher’s analysis of variance technique was used for statistically interpretation of data by using least significant difference (LSD) test at 5% level of probability. Nitrogen fixing bacteria significantly affect the germination count (m2), plant height (cm), number of tillers (m2), number of leaves per tiller, leaf area per tiller (cm2), green forage yield (t·ha-1) and dry matter yield (t ha-1). The maximum green forage yield (85.2 t·ha-1), dry matter yield (14.1 t ·ha-1) and crude protein (11.5%) were recorded where Azotobacter inoculation was applied. The interaction between cultivars and nitrogenous strains was significant for green forage yield (t·ha-1), dry matter yield (t·ha-1) and crude protein (%). Conclusion showed that cultivar Sargodha-2011 which was inoculated with Azotobacter spp. gave higher forage yield of good quality.

收集历史上石油市场的重大供给冲击事件,包括委内瑞拉大罢工、伊拉克战争、卡特琳娜飓风、土耳其攻打库尔德、墨西哥湾漏油事件和利比亚战争,选取Brent、WTI现货和期货以及迪拜和阿曼现货等国际主要石油市场数据,建立GARCH模型,分析供给冲击对市场波动性的影响,进一步采用异方差修正的事件分析法考察这些事件对全球主要石油市场收益率的短期影响。研究结果表明,大部分事件会导致事件窗内的方差变大,除伊拉克战争和墨西哥湾漏油事件外,其他事件的事件窗内的累计超额收益显著为正,同一事件下所有市场事件窗内累计超额收益走势一致,重大事件发生的地理区位对邻近市场的收益率的影响更大。对实证结果进行经济解释,针对不同的石油市场参与者给出相应的政策建议。
