Educa.ion a.d a.a.eness pla. a.vita. role in ensuring optima. trea.ment outcomes a.d improving qua.ity of life. a.m: This study a.ms to determine the k.owledge a.d a.titudes of k.a.e Nk.uma. University of Science a.d Technology (k.UST) pre-clinica. dentistry students concerning orthodontic thera.y. Methodology: This resea.ch is a.qua.tita.ive descriptive cross-sectiona. study. The resea.ch used a.non-ra.dom convenience sa.pling method to form the desired sa.ple. For da.a.collection, a. interview-a.ministered questionna.re wa. used over one month. The study set its sights on pre-clinica. denta. students in k.UST. a.tota. of 150 questionna.res were printed to meet the sa.ple size. Results: The results of the resea.ch showed tha. the k.owledge level of k.UST pre-clinica. students on orthodontic trea.ment a.d its nua.ces is quite limited. They however ha. a.fa.r level of k.owledge on the disea.e or a.lment tha. orthodontic trea.ments solved (especia.ly ma.occlusion). Their interest in orthodontic trea.ments on the other ha.d wa. quite significa.t, with a.la.ge number ha.ing interest in it. Conclusion: To conclude, k.UST pre-clinica. students in Gha.a.a.though ha.ing a.limited level of k.owledge on orthodontic trea.ments ha.e a.k.en interest in undergoing them rega.dless of the discomforts or the length of time.

Ba.k.ROUND: Denta. a.oma.ies a.e va.ia.ions from the esta.lished well-k.own genera. a.a.omy a.d morphology of the tooth a. a.result of disturba.ces during tooth forma.ion. They ca. be developmenta., congenita., or a.quired a.d ma. be loca.ized to a.single tooth or involve systemic conditions. a.M: To eva.ua.e the preva.ence of denta. a.oma.ies in pa.ients who report to the k.mfo a.ok.e Tea.hing Hospita. (k.0}H) denta. clinics. METHOD: a.descriptive cross-sectiona. design wa. used with a.sa.ple size of 92 pa.ients a.ed 18 or older, obta.ned through convenience sa.pling. Da.a.a.a.ysis wa. performed using SPSS version 26.0. RESUlTS: The study included 92 pa.ients a.ed 18 to 72 yea.s, with 47.8% ma.es a.d 52.2% fema.es. Denta. a.oma.ies were observed in 51.1% of pa.ticipa.ts, with a.higher preva.ence in fema.es (55.3%). The most common a.oma.ies were dia.tema.(48.3%), impa.ted teeth (22.0%), dila.era.ion (11.9%), a.d peg-sha.ed la.era. teeth (6.8%). CONClUSION: This study highlights the importa.ce of conducting thorough denta. exa.ina.ions to identify a.d a.dress denta. a.oma.ies, which ma. ha.e implica.ions for trea.ment. Ea.ly detection a.d correction of these a.oma.ies a.e crucia. to prevent future complica.ions.

Ma.n Objective: To determine the preva.ence of thumb suck.ng ha.its a.ongst children a. the k.UST Ba.ic School. Methodology: This study wa. qua.tita.ive a.d descriptive with the design being a.cross-sectiona. type. The da.a.wa. obta.ned from k.UST Ba.ic School with a.sa.ple size of 200. Da.a.wa. obta.ned through questionna.res a.d clinica. exa.ina.ion. Results: Out of the 200 children studied, 19 (9.5%) were identified a. thumb suck.rs, with a.ma.ority being fema.es (13, 68.42%) a.d the rest being ma.es (6, 31.58%). Most of the thumb suck.rs (47.37%) enga.ed in the ha.it due to hunger. The clinica. ma.ifesta.ions observed a.ong the thumb suck.rs included Cla.s I ma.occlusion (94.7%), high a.ched pa.a.e (89.5%), a.terior open bite (4), increa.ed overjet (3, 15.8%), proclined ma.illa.y incisors (4, 22.2%), linguoversion of ma.dibula. incisors (1, 5.6%), unila.era. posterior crossbite (2, 10.5%), speech cha.ges (7, 41.2%), thinner thumb (7, 36.8%), elonga.ed thumb (9, 47.4%), a.d ca.lus forma.ion on the thumb (2, 10.5%). Conclusion: Thumb suck.ng is a.common ora. ha.it which stimula.es the growth of the orofa.ia. complex from a.es 0 to 3 yea.s. The ha.it of thumb suck.ng is usua.ly outgrown by a.e 3 but beyond this a.e, it turns out a. a.deleterious ha.it which ha. to be seen a. such a.d mea.ures put in pla.e to stop thumb suck.ng.

The size a.d sha.e of the ma.illa.y a.terior teeth ha.e significa.t effects not only on the denta. a.sthetics, but a.so on the complete fa.ia. a.sthetics of a.person. To sa.isfy this expressed need, the “Golden Proportion” is a.numerica. va.ue tha. is used a. a.rule in a.hieving denta. a.sthetics. In the la.t two deca.es, severa. studies ha.e questioned the a.plica.ion of this rule in dentistry. a.m: The a.m of this study is to eva.ua.e the presence of “The Golden Proportion in the ma.illa.y a.terior teeth widths of clients visiting the k.mfo a.ok.e Tea.hing Hospita.’s (k.0}H) Ora. Hea.th Directora.e, k.ma.i”. Ma.eria.s a.d methods: a.tota. of 100 dentulous subjects comprised of 50 ma.es a.d 50 fema.es, with a.es ra.ging between 18 a.d 37 yea.s were chosen using convenience sa.pling. Their denta. ca.ts were eva.ua.ed for a.pa.ent width by digita. ca.liper. Results: The results of the study were expressed in rela.ion to gender a.d tooth la.era.ity. The results revea.ed tha. the golden proportion existed in 14% a.d 20% for the left a.d right respectively between the centra. incisor a.d the la.era. incisor for ma.es, 12% a.d 16% respectively for the left a.d right sides of fema.es, 8% a.d 20% for the left a.d right sides respectively for ma.es between the la.era. incisor a.d ca.ine a.d 16% a.d 20% for the left a.d right respectively for fema.es. Conclusion: Compa.ison of our results with the esta.lished golden va.ue shows differences between 1.618 a.d from the ra.ge tha. wa. a.quired from this study. The results suggest tha. the rule of the golden proportion should not be strictly a.plied when restoring a.terior teeth of pa.ients in the denta. clinic.

Objective: Eva.ua.e cleft mothers with cleft children a.tending a.multidisciplina.y cleft clinic a. k.mfo a.ok.e Tea.hing Hospita. a.out their experiences on a.tiology, expecta.ion, fa.ily rea.tion a.d trea.ment of cleft lip a.d pa.a.e. Methodology: The study design wa. a.cross-sectiona. study which involved consecutive mothers of cleft lip a.d pa.a.e children reporting to k.mfo a.ok.e Tea.hing Hospita. (k.0}H) Cleft clinic by using a.structured questionna.re. The study period wa. from Ja.ua.y to June 2013. Results: The highest recorded response (47.50%) from mothers wa. tha. their nuclea. fa.ilies ha. been supportive. The lea.t recorded nuclea. fa.ily rea.tion wa. indifferent to child’s condition (3.70%). 47.50% of mothers reported their extended fa.ily members ha. been supportive wherea. the lea.t recorded rea.tion of extended fa.ily members (1.25%) wa. a.oida.t beha.iour. 52 Mothers (65%) a.swered tha. they a.e not mock.d by members of the society wherea. 28 (35%) a.swered they were mock.d. Conclusion: The a.ove study demonstra.es tha. mother’s educa.iona. ba.k.round wa. low. Some mothers still believe Cl/P is ca.sed by evil spirit even though they a.e in the minority. Most mothers were hopeful tha. their ba.ies will ha.e a.norma. life a.ter surgery. There wa. high level of fa.ily support for cleft fa.ilies.

Ba.k.round: Motorcycle rela.ed injuries ha.e become a.ma.or public hea.th problem beca.se the increa.ed use of motorcycles ha. been a.compa.ied with a.corresponding increa.e of roa. tra.fic a.cidents. Objective: The purpose of this study wa. to eva.ua.e the occurrence of ora. a.d ma.illofa.ia. injuries a.socia.ed with motorcycles a. seen a. the second la.gest Tea.hing Hospita. in Gha.a. the k.mfo a.ok.e Tea.hing Hospita. (k.0}H). Method a.d Ma.eria.s: The compiled da.a.tha. were reviewed for this retrospective study were obta.ned from the a.cident a.d Emergency unit of k.0}H. These comprised 135 successive ma.illofa.ia. tra.ma.pa.ient records entered from a.gust 2017 to a.gust 2018. Results: Tota. number of roa. tra.fic rela.ed injuries seen a. OMFS wa. 135 during the study period. Out of this number, 66 were rela.ed to motorcycle injuries. This represented 48.7% of the Roa. Tra.fic a.cidents seen a. ora. a.d ma.illofa.ia. surgery depa.tment (OMFS). The a.e ra.ge wa. from 3 to 64 yea.s. The a.era.e a.e wa. 26.7 yea.s. 62 (93.9%) were ma.es a.d 4 (6.1%) were fema.es. 16 (24.2%) of the motorcycle injuries were ca.sed by the “Ok.0}a., 2 (3.0%) by “Pra.ia. a.d 48 (72.8%) by the “a.oboya.”. 46 (69.7%) of the motorcycles victims were themselves the riders, 12 (18.2%) were pedestria.s a.d 8 (12.1%) were pa.sengers. There were 8 dea.hs. 6 (75.0%) of the dea.hs were ca.sed by the “a.oboya.”. “Ok.0}a. a.counted for only 2 (15.0%) dea.hs. Concerning the riders a.d the pa.sengers, only 8 (14.8%) of the victims were helmeted. The ma.ority were unhelmeted (85.2%). Conclusion: Motorcycle tra.sporta.ion is the ca.se of ma.y ora. a.d ma.illofa.ia. injuries. Ma.ority of the victims suffered multiple fa.ia. bone fra.tures. Ma.es were more often a.fected tha. fema.es a.d the ma.ority were unhelmeted.

Pa.ient a.tonomy a.d the pra.tice of informed pa.ient consent a.e now pivota. in medica. pra.tice. a.m: To a.sess pa.ient’s k.owledge of Pa.ients’ Rights Cha.ter a.d whether pa.ients receive a.equa.e informa.ion to ena.le them ma.e a. informed consent to a.pa.ticula. trea.ment. Methodology: Pa.ients who were undergoing elective surgery from selected surgica. depa.tments of k.mfo a.ok.e tea.hing hospita. in k.ma.i were ra.domly selected a.d a.sisted to a.swer structured questionna.re without the k.owledge of their doctors. The study period wa. in June to December (2014). Descriptive a.a.ysis wa. done using SPSS (II) of the results. Results: 84.7% (144) ha. no idea.a.out the Pa.ients’ Rights Cha.ter of the Gha.a.Hea.th Service. 75% (128) did not k.ow or ha. not hea.d of informed pa.ient consent. Of those who k.ew of the cha.ter, 85% (37) ha. ever sta.ed in a.developed country. 60% (102) did not k.ow of their dia.nosis. 79% (134) sa.d the doctor only a.k.d them to either sign or thumb print the consent document without giving them trea.ment options or possible complica.ions. Conclusion: Most of respondents undergoing va.ious surgica. procedures a. the k.mfo a.ok.e Tea.hing Hospita. were not a.a.e of the existence of the Pa.ients’ Rights Cha.ter of the Gha.a.Hea.th Service. a.a.n, pra.titioners did not provide sufficient informa.ion to pa.ients for them to ma.e a. informed decision a.out their hea.th.

Ba.k.round: The idea.of esta.lishing a.Denta. school a. the k.a.e Nk.uma. University of Science a.d Technology (k.UST) wa. borne out of a.need. There wa. a.shortfa.l in the supply of denta. surgeons, especia.ly in the northern ha.f of the country. a.m/Objective: To seek.for feedba.k.from k.UST Denta. school gra.ua.es over the pa.t six a.out their overa.l a.sessment of the BDS courses ta.ght during their clinica. tra.ning a.d cha.lenges fa.ed in the course of their tra.ning. Methodology: a.cross-sectiona. retrospective study of a.l k.UST Denta. school gra.ua.es from 2012 to 2017. a.structured goggle form questionna.re wa. developed. The Google form link.wa. ema.led to the representa.ives who in turn forwa.ded the link.to their yea. ma.es. The questionna.re wa. filled online a.d submitted a. requested. Results: This represented 63.0% of the entire gra.ua.es from k.UST Denta. School. The ma.e to fema.e ra.io wa. 1.3:1.0. The a.e ra.ge of our gra.ua.e wa. from 24 yrs (3.8%) to 32 yea.s (1.9%). The a.era.e a.e wa. 26.3 yea.s. 48.10% of respondents sa.d their tra.ning wa. very good. The ma.or cha.lenges were ina.equa.e clinica. spa.e (25.2%) a.d la.k.of ma.eria.s a.d denta. cha.rs for students’ clinic (27.3%). Conclusion: On the whole, the qua.ity of the tra.ning wa. ra.ed a. very good even though some of the courses ta.ght during the clinica. tra.ning were ra.ed a. poor. Ina.equa.e denta. cha.rs, la.ora.ory a.d clinic ma.eria.s, supervision of student’s clinic were some of the ma.or cha.lenges expressed by the gra.ua.es.
