An assessment of paleodepositional environment and maturity of organic matter in sediments of the Setap Shale and Belait formations in West Sabah,East Malaysia by organic geochemical methods

The black shale samples collected from two Neogene formations in the Klias Peninsula area,West Sabah,have been assessed and characterized in details by gas chromatography,gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and a variety of organic geochemical *** aims of this study are to describe the characteristics of organic matter of these sediments in terms of source/type of the organic matter,assess its thermal maturity and paleoenvironment of deposition,based primarily on biomarker *** results of both formations do not reveal significant differences within the rock *** gas chromatograms of the saturated hydrocarbon fractions of the Setap Shale and the Belait formations displayed monomodal n-alkane distributions and nearly identical regular sterane compositions with a predominance of C27 regular *** are consistent with open marine depositional environments dominated by marine biological *** related feature of these rock extracts is the presence of a high relative abundance of gammacerane,indicating anoxic marine hypersaline source depositional *** relatively high abundance of common land plant-derived biomarkers,such as bicadinanes and oleananes,is a clear indication of a major terrigenous input to the source of the extractable organic *** predominance of oleanane biomarkers in both formations is indicative of angiospermis input and Tertiary source *** high C29/C30 hopane ratios,moderate development of C33-C35 hopanes,high abundance of tricyclic terpanes and a slight predominance of C27 regular sterane over C28 and C29 steranes are characteristic features tending to suggest a significant marine influence on these source rocks,thereby suggesting a mixed source *** 22S/(22S+22R)C32 hopane ratio has reached equilibrium,and this is supported by the high maturity level as indicated by the 22S/22SC31-33 extended hopane ratios and 20S/(20S+20R)C29 regular steranes ratios.

Does Seed Priming Induce Changes in the Levels of Some Endogenous Plant Hormones in Hexaploid Wheat Plants Under Salt Stress？

In order to assess whether salt tolerance could be Improved In spring wheat （Triticum aestivum L.）, the present study was performed by soaking the seeds of two cultlvars, namely MH-97 （salt sensitive） and Inqlab-91 （salt tolerant）, for 12 h In distilled water or 100 mol/m^3 CaCl2, KCI, or NaCI. Primed seeds from each treatment group and non-primed seeds were sown In a field In which NaCI salinity of 15 dS/m was developed. Priming of seeds with CaCl2, followed by priming with KCI and NaCI, was found to be effective In alleviating the adverse effects of salt stress on both wheat cultivars In terms of shoot fresh and dry weights and grain yield. Priming with CaCl2 alleviated the adverse effects of salt stress on hormonal balance In plants of both cultlvars. In MH-97 plants, CaCl2 pretreatment considerably reduced leaf absclslc acid （ABA） concentrations and Increased leaf free salicylic acid （SA） concentrations under both saline and non-saline conditions. In contrast, In the Inqlab-91 plant, CaCl2 Increased free Indoleacetic acid （IAA） and indolebutyrlc acid （IBA） content. However, priming of seeds with CaCl2 did not alter free polyamlne levels in either cultlvar, although spermldlne levels were considerably lower In plants raised from seeds treated with CaCl2 for both cultlvars under saline conditions. Priming with KCI Increased growth In Inqlab-91 plants, but not In MH-97 plants, under saline conditions. The salinity Induced reducUon In auxins （IAA and IBA） was alleviated by NaCI priming In both cultlvars under saline conditions. However, NaCI Increased leaf free ABA content and lowered leaf SA and putresclne levels In Inqlab-91 plants under saline conditions. In conclusion, although all three priming agents （I.e. CaCl2, KCI, and NaCI） were effective In alleviating the adverse effects of salt stress on wheat plants, their effects on altering the levels of different plant hormones were different In the two cuItlvars.

As no complete and comprehensive studies have been previously reported for La-doped nanocrystalline SrZrO_(3)(SZO),we researched herein a detailed investigation for pure and La-doped samples.A modified solid-state reaction process,including successive cycles of milling and sintering at high temperature,was followed to produce SZO and Sr_(0.9)La_(0.1)ZrO_(3)(SLZO)powdered *** analysis of X-ray diffractometer data predicts that the two samples exhibit orthorhombic structure with an increase in crystallite size by~25%for doped sample.A great reduction in Raman modes intensity(~60%)and an annihilation of several vibration modes were detected using Raman *** degree of ordering on the B-site was recorded to be higher in La-doped *** to ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)absorption,a decrease in the optical gap width(E_(g))from 4.40 eV to 4.21 eV was achieved by La incorporation due to the presence of additional defect states such as oxygen and Sr vacancies at the band *** process of electron-hole recombination was studied using photoluminescence(PL)*** of PL spectra yielded four emission bands:one green band,one blue band,and two violet *** intense violet emission atλ=393 nm approximately five times greater than that detected for pure SZO is realized as La^(3+)substitutes for Sr^(2+).Such property nominates SLZO for technological applications requiring highly intense violet emission,e.g.,light-emitting diodes.

An organic geochemical investigation on organic rich sediments from two Neogene formations in the Klias Peninsula area,West Sabah,Malaysia

Twenty organic rich outcrop samples from the Belait and Setap Shale formations in the Klias Peninsula area, West Sabah, were analysed by means of organic petrology and geochemical techniques. The aims of this study are to assess the type of organic matter, thermal maturity and established source rock characterization based primarily on Rock-Eval pyrolysis data. The shales of the Setap Shale Formation have TOC values varying from 0.6 wt%–1.54 wt% with a mean hydrogen index (HI) of 60.1 mg/g, whereas the shales of the Belait Formation have TOC values ranging from 0.36 wt%–0.61 wt% with a mean (HI) of 38.2 mg/g, indicating that both formations have TOC>0.5 wt% the minimum limit for hydrocarbon generation. The samples do not contain sufficient hydrogen-rich organic matter (types I, II and III) to be considered good quality source rocks. The kerogen of type II is predominantly of marine origin. This organic matter was deposited in clastic algal environments. Geochemical data (Rock-Eval, Tmax values ranging from 377–451℃ for shales of the Setap Shale Formation and ranging from 466–498℃ for shales of the Belait Formation, typical of high maturity), indicate variable maturation histories in both formations. The maturation level varied from the beginning to the peak stage of oil generation in the Setap Shale Formation and it has reached the over-mature level in the samples of the Belait Formation.

Numerical analysis of an over-boarding operation for a subsea template

Subsea templates are normally transported to the installation site on the deck of a crane *** being lifted off from the deck,the template is 1)over-boarded from the initial location to the target position by the side of the vessel;2)lowered through the splash zone;3)further lowered down to the seabed and 4)finally positioned and *** the mentioned phases should be ***,the splash zone crossing phase is taken as the critical phase and analyzed to define the installation weather *** over-boarding phase has not been the focus of analysis due to a large involvement of human actions and little involvement of hydrodynamic *** offshore operations,the offshore manager may decide to decrease the defined installation weather criterion if the risk of the personnel safety on deck during over-boarding phase is considered ***,it is of great need to quantify the operational criterion for such *** objective of this paper is to perform numerical analyses and define the allowable sea states for a safe over-boarding *** numerical analyses using time-domain simulations have been performed in various sea *** lines have been modelled to control the motions of the template during the *** pendulum motions of the subsea template are considered as the critical responses for the assessment of the allowable sea states.

Aerodynamic and solid flow properties for flaxseeds for pneumatic separation by using air stream

This study aimed to develop simple empirical equations to predict flaxseeds *** first part of the present study deals with the physical,aerodynamic and solid flow properties of flaxseeds which are evaluated as a function of change in moisture content from 8.60%to 23.90%dry basis(d.b.),the dimensions of the length,width and thickness varied from 4.14 to 4.32 mm,2.03 to 2.13 mm and 0.88 to 0.93 mm,*** the moisture content increased from 8.60%to 23.90%d.b.,the bulk density,true density and porosity were found to decrease from 46.65 to 44.89 kg/m3;1244 to 1176 kg/m3 and 46.65%to 44.89%,whereas angle of repose and terminal velocity were found to increase from 27.60 to 35.80 and 2.46 to 3.56 m/s,*** static coefficient of friction on various surfaces,namely,plywood,stainless steel,galvanized iron,iron and internal also increased linearly with the increase in moisture *** results of the experimental investigation may help to optimize some engineering parameters of separation *** second part was carried out on a series of experiments to specify the optimum conditions of separating operation which insure the highest grade of separation efficiency with minimum *** separation equipment was manufactured and tested under different combinations of the following factors:air stream velocity,feed rate and sample moisture *** performance of the equipment was evaluated by using the indices separation efficiency and percentage of seed *** results of the equipment performances showed that the combinations of air stream velocity,feed rate and sample moisture content affected significantly the separation efficiency and grain *** stream velocity of 2-6 m/s combined with 8.5 kg/*** rate and 8.6%moisture content can be considered the most favorable combination values of these *** gave the highest grades of separation efficiency and the minimum grain losses.

An Optimal Framework for Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a kind of progressive dementia that is frequently accompanied by brain *** the use of the morpho-logical characteristics of MRI brain scans,this paper proposed a method for diagnosing moderate cognitive impairment(MCI)and *** anatom-ical features of 818 subjects were calculated using the FreeSurfer software,and the data were taken from the ADNI *** features were first removed from the dataset after being preprocessed with an age correction algorithm using linear regression to estimate the effects of normal *** these preprocessed characteristics,the extreme learning machine served as a classifier for the diagnosis of AD and *** determining accuracy,sensitivity,specificity,and area under the curve,ten-fold cross validation was *** accuracy of AD diagnosis was 87.62 percent on average after 100 runs,while the area under curve was 94.25 *** sensitivity of the MCI diagnosis was 83.88 percent,while the accuracy was 73.38 *** age correction can help diagnose MCI more *** outcomes showed that the proposed strategy for diagnosing AD and MCI was more effective than existing methods.

A consensus meeting of national experts from all major national hepatobiliary centres in the country was held on May 26,2023,at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute&Research Centre(PKLI&RC)after initial consultations with the *** Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases(PSSLD)and PKLI&RC jointly organised this *** effort was based on a comprehensive literature review to establish national practice guidelines for hilar cholangiocarcinoma(hCCA).The consensus was that hCCA is a complex disease and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to best manage these *** coordinated effort can minimise delays and give patients a chance for curative treatment and effective *** diagnostic and staging workup includes high-quality computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,and magnetic resonance *** cytology or biopsy utilizing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a mainstay for ***,histopathologic confirmation is not always required before *** ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of regional lymph nodes and positron emission tomography scan are valuable adjuncts for *** only curative treatment is the surgical resection of the biliary tree based on the Bismuth-Corlette *** patients with unresectable hCCA can be considered for liver *** chemotherapy should be offered to patients with a high risk of *** use of preoperative biliary drainage and the need for portal vein embolisation should be based on local multidisciplinary *** with acute cholangitis can be drained with endoscopic or percutaneous biliary *** chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine has shown improved survival in patients with irresectable and recurrent hCCA.

IκB-ζsignaling promotes chondrocyte inflammatory phenotype,senescence,and erosive joint pathology

Osteoarthritis is a joint disease characterized by a poorly-defined inflammatory response that does not encompass a massive immune cell infiltration yet contributes to cartilage degradation and loss of joint mobility, suggesting a chondrocyte intrinsic inflammatory response. Using primary chondrocytes from joints of osteoarthritic mice and patients, we first show that these cells express ample pro-inflammatory markers and RANKL in an NF-κB dependent manner. The inflammatory phenotype of chondrocytes was recapitulated by exposure of chondrocytes to IL-1β and bone particles, which were used to model bone matrix breakdown products revealed to be present in synovial fluid of OA patients, albeit their role was not defined. We further show that bone particles and IL-1β can promote senescent and apoptotic changes in primary chondrocytes due to oxidative stress from various cellular sources such as the mitochondria. Finally, we provide evidence that inflammation, oxidative stress and senescence converge upon IκB-ζ, the principal mediator downstream of NF-κB, which regulates expression of RANKL, inflammatory, catabolic,and SASP genes. Overall, this work highlights the capacity and mechanisms by which inflammatory cues, primarily joint degradation products, i.e., bone matrix particles in concert with IL-1β in the joint microenvironment, program chondrocytes into an “inflammatory phenotype” which inflects local tissue damage.
