The Relationship between ABO Blood Group Type and the COVID-19 Susceptibility in Qatif Central Hospital, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Introduction: It has been found that the viral infection is linked to the ABO blood group. Limited studies investigated the relationship of the ABO blood group and susceptibility to COVID-19 infection. Objective: To investigate the association between the ABO blood group and the COVID-19 susceptibility. Material & Methods: The study is a retrospective cohort study. It included all hospitalized confirmed COVID-19 patients in Qatif central hospital, Eastern province, Saudi Arabia. We included both genders and people who are older than 14 years of age. The study was conducted in the period between 15th March, and 15th April, 2020. Results: Our sample consists of 72 patients;we found a percentage distribution of 23.62%, 33.33%, 9.72%, and 33.33% for blood groups A, B, AB and O, respectively. Our results showed significantly increased risk for AB blood groups (P Conclusion: Our findings suggest that among confirmed COVID-19 patients, patients with AB blood group have higher susceptibility while patients with O blood group have lower susceptibility to COVID-19 infection. Our study has limitations and further studies are needed.

Introduction: During COVID-19 pandemic, isolation and quarantine as preventive measures have been implemented. Isolation is often a bad experience for isolated people and it could affect the psychological and mental health. Objectives: To study the impact of isolation on the psychological and mental health of isolated hospitalized suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients. Material & Methods: A single-center cohort, descriptive survey involving isolated confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients in Qatif central hospital, Eastern province, Saudi Arabia. The study was conducted between March 22 and April 18, 2020. Information was collected through an online Arabic-language questionnaire. Our sample included both male and female. Anxiety and depression symptoms during hospitalization were evaluated with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Results: A total of 52 questionnaires were returned completed. The majority of the respondents were females (65.4%). Most of the participants were less than 60 years of age (90.4%). Three patients were known to have previous mental illness. About two-thirds of the participants were isolated in shared rooms. The duration of isolation was less than 10 days in 72.3% of our sample. Borderline and abnormal scores for depression and anxiety were observed in about 38.4%, and 17.3% of patients, respectively. Three patients had both abnormal depression and anxiety scores. Conclusion: Isolation for contagious infections such as COVID-19 could cause severe psychological health problems, though this was not supported by our study due to the small sample size. Further studies are needed to address this important issue which results from isolation during infectious outbreaks.

Factors Promoting Retention of Nurses in Three Private Hospitals of Lahore: A Cross Sectional Descriptive Survey

Introduction: Pakistan has a large number of professional nurses but a higher rate of turnover contributes towards the shortage of nurses which is intensified by nurses’ immigration, lack of recruitment of new nurses and retirement of senior nurses. Aim: The study aimed at examining the factors that increase retention of nurses. Research Method: The study is descriptive cross sectional with a sample of 150 nurses including both the genders, from 3 private hospitals located in Pakistan. A convenient sampling technique was used. The data collection was done through close ended questionnaires based on 20 questions. Data collection was done quantitatively and then data was entered in SPSS. Correlation and regression tests were performed. Findings: The analysis revealed that 91.3% nurses are loyal to their hospitals but, 8.7%nurses can switch the hospital for different reasons. It was also found that the idea of leaving the job based on the intention of moving to abroad and public sector was higher than the retirement and other causes. Resultantly, enhancements in nurses’ work environments have the ability to decrease nurses’ job burnout and turnover and increase patients’ satisfaction. Recommendations: Hospital leaders should implement effective strategies to encourage nurses to continue their job by motivation, strengthening management skills within the hospital and improving a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, continuous learning, trust, respect and flexible arrangements which can lead towards achieving better ***, further studies quantitatively and qualitatively can explore more factors related to dissatisfaction of nurses. Health systems policy makers should lead by developing related strategies for the retention of nurses.

The Southwest Maluku region in eastern Indonesia is considered a frontier,outermost and underdeveloped *** inhabitants live on isolated islands,including the residents of Mahaleta Village,where only 9.4%of the community have limited access to *** study aimed to design an economically feasible hybrid renewable energy(RE)system based on solar and wind energy to integrate with the productive activities of the *** study developed conceptual schemes to meet the demand for electricity from the resi-dential,community,commercial and productive sectors of the *** analysis was performed using a techno-economic *** hybrid system was designed using the HOMER Pro optimization function,and cold-storage and dryer systems were designed to support related productive *** optimized design of the hybrid RE system comprised 271.62 kW of solar photovoltaics,80 kW of wind turbines and a 1-MWh lead-acid *** found that the hybrid RE system would only be economically feasible with a full-grant incentive and an electricity tariff of$0.0808/***,the productive activity schemes were all economically feasible,with a cold-storage cost of$0.035/kg and a drying cost of$0.082/*** the hybrid RE system with productive activities can improve the economic feasibility of the energy system and create more jobs as well as increase income for the local community.

Association between pre-pregnancy body mass index and gestational weight gain and the risk of preeclampsia:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To analyze the relationship between body mass index(BMI)before pregnancy and gestational weight gain throughout pregnancy with the incidence of ***:This was a systematic review-meta analysis of literature collected from three e-databases:Scopus,PubMed,and Science *** assessment was measured with the Effective Public Health Practice Project ***-analysis was done by calculating the fixed and random-effects of odds ratio(OR)for each BMI category and gestational weight gain as compared with the incidence of ***:Overweight was associated with a significantly increased risk of preeclampsia(OR=2.152,95%CI 1.363-3.400;P=0.001).Obesity was also associated with a noticeably increased risk of preeclampsia(OR=2.856,95%CI 1.755-4.649;P<0.001).Meanwhile,underweight was associated with a significantly reduced risk of preeclampsia(OR=0.639,95%CI 0.500-0.817;P<0.001)when compared with normal *** women who gained weight below the standard throughout pregnancy was a protective factor from preeclampsia(OR=0.813,95%CI 0.610-1.083;P=0.157)whereas pregnant women who gained weight above the standard had almost doubled risk of preeclampsia(OR=1.850,95%CI 1.377-2.485;P<0.001).Conclusions:The result of this study affirms the role of overweight-obesity pre-pregnancy,and gestational weight gain above the standard during pregnancy as significant risk factors for developing preeclampsia.

Alzheimer’s, characterized by β-amyloid accumulation and tau hyperphosphorylation, is linked to inflammation, oxidative stress, and microglial activation, suggesting potential protective strategies. Studies have shown that natural polyphenolic anthocyanin components found in berries, such as cyanidin, can inhibit amyloid filament formation and modulate Alzheimer’s disease are polyphenolic flavonoids, which are responsible for red, purple, and blue colors in various fruits, such as red cabbage and most berries. Here, we reviewed the protective effects of anthocyanins. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, reduces NF-κB, and affects inflammatory signaling pathways. They also improve cognitive function, making them a potential protective strategy against AD.

Energy consumption of Oman＇s building sector is around 55% of the country＇s total energy demand and it has increased by 59% from 2005 to 2010. This paper investigates the potential of energy conservation in residential buildings in the city of Muscat by providing guidelines to reduce solar gain in overheated season. It aims to identify the problem of high energy consumption in modem houses and study the relationship between energy consumption and thermal performance of the building. Based on the authors＇ analysis of Oman＇s solar data, recommendations for shading devices were developed and evaluated using e-QUEST. An energy reduction of around 10% was achieved without drastically increasing the cost of construction while also taking into consideration of society＇s requirement for privacy and its concern to visually maintain cultural identity.

Acute soft head syndrome or sickle cell cephalohematoma is not a common sequel or complication of Sickle cell disease (SCD). Here we describe a case report of a 15-year old Saudi male with sickle cell disease who presented with generalized vaso-occlusive crisis. 48 hours post admission, he developed generalized scalp swelling which is consistent with one of the rare complications of sickle cell disease, acute soft head syndrome. The patient was treated conservatively, without aspiration of the scalp swelling. This case draws attention that acute soft head syndrome should be one of the differential diagnoses of scalp pain and swelling in patients with sickle cell disease.
