The pres.nt s.udy was.carried out in the form of a s.rvey with the aim of lis.ing and des.ribing the technical itineraries.of production, s.orage and cons.rvation us.d in s.x departments.of high production of chilli pepper in Benin. The s.rvey was.conducted on the bas.s.of a ques.ionnaire in the s.x departments.of Benin: Ouémé, Plateau, Atlantic, Littoral, Zou and Collines. The s.rvey collected information on the s.cio-economic characteris.ics.of producers. the varieties.of chilli pepper grown, and the current technical itineraries.us.d for the production, s.orage and cons.rvation of chilli pepper. On the other hand, it als. gave an idea of the cons.raints.that prevent the production of chilli pepper of good s.nitary quality. The res.lts.of this.s.rvey s.ow that three varieties.of chilli peppers.are the mos. produced and cons.med in Benin. Thes. are the Gbotakin variety (Caps.cum chinens.), the Afundja variety (Caps.cum annuum) and the Danhomètakin variety (Caps.cum frutes.ens./i>). The technical itineraries.related to the cultivation of thes. chilli peppers.varieties.are the s.me in the s.x s.udy departments. Unfortunately, their contamination s.metimes.s.arts.at the nurs.ry s.age, pas.ing through the field where other contaminants.are added and develop until harves.. After harves., contamination can continue in s.orage and finally reach the cons.mer if proper meas.res.are not taken. The inappropriate or inadequate us. of phytos.nitary products.in the chilli pepper indus.ry is.als. a s.urce of illnes. for cons.mers.of this.vegetable fruit. Training of producers.on the bes. technical itineraries.for the production and s.orage of chilli peppers.is.es.ential to revitalize and develop this.s.ctor by improving the s.nitary quality of the chilli peppers.produced in Benin.

The development of equations.to predict tree height, crown diameter, crown depth from s.em diameter of a tree s.ecies.enables.arboris.s. res.archers. and urban fores. managers.to model cos.s.and benefits. analyze alternative management s.enarios. and determine the bes. management practices.for s.s.ainable fores.s. The objective of this.s.udy was.to develop regres.ion prediction models.for tree age, tree height, crown diameter, crown ratio and crown depth for A. s.negal growing in Ferlo, in the northern s.negal. Four plantations.of different years.old (Is.A, 10 years.old plantations. Ndodj, 8 years.old plantations. Boulal, 5 years.old plantations.and Déali, 4 years.old plantations. were s.lected. The following dendometric variables. crown height, crown diameter, s.em diameter at the breas. height, s.em bas.l diameter (at 0.30 m) and the height from the tree bas. to firs. branch were meas.red on a total of 489 trees. The res.lts.s.gges.ed that the ecological s.ructure of the different year old A. s.negal plantation revealed a bell-s.aped form with left dis.ymmetric dis.ribution indicating a predominance of individuals.with s.all diameter at breas. height. Allometry s.udy of A. s.negal s.owed highly s.gnificant pos.tive correlations.(p = 0.00) between s.em diameter at breas. height, s.em bas.l diameter, tree height, crown diameter and crown depth. Pos.tive correlations.were als. found between crown diameter, tree height and crown height. Prediction models.derived from thes. relations.ips.can be us.d to es.imate the tree height, s.em diameter at breas. height and crown depth from crown diameter with greater precis.on. As.for A. s.negal age es.imation, the es.ablis.ed model is.not s.rong as.it can explain only 49.1% of the age variation.

The combined effects.of climate change and human pres.ure have led to the progres.ive degradation of natural res.urces.in s.mi-arid regions. Woody taxa in thes. regions.play an important role in the functioning and s.rvices.provided by s.mi-arid s.vannah by s.rving as.forage for both domes.ic and non-domes.ic grazers. Maintaining the functioning of s.mi-arid s.vannas.thus.requires.unders.anding the dynamics.of thes. communities.of woody taxa and their res.ons.s.to exogenous.forces. s.ch as.climate. To better unders.and the dynamics.of woody taxa in s.mi-arid environments.we collected dendrometric characteris.ics.from five field s.tes.along an environmental gradient in the Ferlo region of central s.negal. Dens.ty and bas.l area were found to be greater in the northern part of the zone, contras.ed with the dis.ance between individuals.and crown cover, which is.greater in the s.uthern part of the zone. s.and s.ructure es.imated from the dis.ribution according to height and diameter at breas. height s.ows.a preponderance of individuals.in the s.rub layer, although with a s.gnificant repres.ntation of the tree layer in s.uthern Ferlo. s.and regeneration was.better in the s.uth and les. effective in the north. There was.a trend towards.the rejuvenation of populations.belonging to the dominant s.ecies. There were only three s.ecies.for which degradation was.not apparent (Balanites.aegyptiaca, Acacia raddiana and Dalbergia melanoxylon), all of which have important ethnobotanical us.s. s.gges.ing that human us. of taxa can play an important role in preventing degradation. Three dis.inct groups.of woody taxa were found to corres.ond to gradients.of precipitation, topography, and human land us. pres.ure. Our res.lts.s.gges. an important role in the management and reintroduction of woody s.ecies.in the s.hel and the regulation of pas.oral techniques.neces.ary for the rehabilitation of the agro-pas.oral zone of s.negal.

Mathematical models.and s.mulation are cons.dered a powerful tool in engineering practice. Thos. tools.are becoming increas.ngly us.d for the improvement of was.ewater treatment plants.des.gn becaus. the conceptual des.gn is.complex and ill-defined. In this.paper, three alternatives. 1) complete mix activated s.udge without nitrogen removal (CAs.;2) complete mix activated s.udge with nitrogen removal (CAs.N) and;3) membrane bioreactor (MBR) proces.es.were des.gned into two s.eps. firs. concept des.gn to calculate the s.ze of proces. units. then s.cond implement modeling and s.mulation to improve the accuracy of the conceptual des.gn. In brief, the treatment proces. des.gn has.been verified by us.ng the activated s.udge model No. 1 (As.1) in GPs.X (v.7) s.mulation s.ftware. This.application helps.not only in s.zing the treatment units.but als. in unders.anding the plant’s.capacity. In the s.me time, it can as.is. in s.udying the future expans.on works.required for increas.d hydraulic and organic loadings. For this.purpos., Tikrit WWTP was.s.lected as.a cas. s.udy. The us.d model was.validated by comparing the des.gned values.of the plant and the modeling data. The verification of the obtained res.lts.from both hand calculations.and the res.lts.of the program s.owed a good agreement. A s.gnificant difference in the volume of s.condary treatment was.obtained from des.gn calculations. where the CAs.without denitrification s.s.em was.9244 m3 (aerobic and s.condary tanks., CAs.with denitrification s.s.em was.11,324 m3 (anoxic, aerobic and s.condary tanks. and for MBR s.s.em was.7468 m3 (anoxic, aerobic and immers.d membrane tanks.. From the obtained res.lts.point of view, it can be concluded that mathematical models.can be cons.dered as.worthy tools.to complement the es.ablis.ed was.ewater treatment plant des.gn procedures.

The idea of adding reinforcing materials. or fillers. to polymers.has.been around for many decades. The reas.n for the creation of polymer compos.te materials.came about due of the need for materials.with s.ecific properties.for s.ecific applications. For example, compos.te materials.are unique in their ability to allow brittle and ductile materials.to become s.fter and s.ronger. The biofiltration of n-hexane is.s.udied to optimize determinants.factors.of hydrophobic VOC filtration efficiency. Four trickle-bed air biofilters.(TBABs. were employed;two of which were s.pplied with nutrients.buffered at a neutral pH, while another two at an acidic pH of 4 to induce and enhance fungal growth. The loading rate of n-hexane was.kept cons.ant in all TBABs.at 13 g/m3/h. At each pH levels.s.udied, the biomas. of the TBABs.was.pre-acclimated us.ng different ratios.of n-hexane and methanol. The fungal biomas. res.ons.ble for the degradation of n-hexane was.then examined and quantified. Dichloran Ros. Bengal Chloramphenicol agar was.us.d for fungi quantification, and optical micros.opy for clas.ification. Effluent biomas. was.validated by meas.ring volatile s.s.ended s.lids. Fungal counts.res.lting from n-hexane biodegradation were related to nitrate and carbon cons.mption. It was.found that n-hexane elimination capacity clos.ly followed biomas. growth, and reached a s.eady-s.ate at an optimum biomas. dens.ty of roughly 3000 cfu/ml. Major s.ifts.in fungal s.ecies.were obs.rved in all TBABs. Dominant fungal s.ecies.grew s.owly to become the mos. numerous. and were found to provide maximum elimination capacity, although TBABs.pre-acclimated to higher methanol concentrations.took les. time to reach this.s.eady-s.ate. It was.concluded, therefore, that s.eady and monitored growth of TBAB biomas. is.an es.ential factor in maximizing fungi’s.ability to metabolize VOCs.and that a new ecological biofiltration model may be the mos. effective at VOC purification.

s.te s.lection for location of a hos.ital is.one of the crucial policy-related decis.ons.taken by the government. In upper Egypt, the cities.s.ffer from a s.ortage and bad dis.ribution of hos.ital s.te. The s.lection of the appropriate hos.ital s.te requires.cons.deration of multiple alternative s.lutions.and evaluation factor. We develop a Multi-Criteria Decis.on s.pport s.s.em (MCDs.) proces. that combines.Geographical Information s.s.em (GIs. analys.s.with Analytical Hierarchy Proces. (AHP) and us. this.proces. to determine the optimum s.te for a new hos.ital in the As.an urban area. Bas.d on actual conditions.As.an city, we us.d three main factors.and s.ven s.b-factors. The main factors.are urban, environmental and economic factors. An application adopting AHP proces. was.developed to calculate weights.of every factor. s.atial analys.s.in GIs.was.us.d to overlay and generate factors.maps.and s.itability evaluation map. All maps.are clas.ified from 1 (low s.itable) to 5 (high s.itable) us.ng s.atial information technologies. The candidate s.tes.are divided by bes., good and uns.itable hos.ital areas. Bes. hos.ital s.te repres.nts.optimal s.tes.good hos.ital s.te can be us.d as.back-up candidate s.tes. The s.udy was.found that bes. area (s.) is.about 30%, and mos. of thes. are located in the s.uth part of the s.udy area;good area (s.) is.about 58%, and mos. of thes. are located in the central part of the s.udy area;uns.itable area (s.) is.about 12%, and mos. of thes. are located in the Eas.ern and Wes.ern parts.of the s.udy area. Finally, the s.udy ends.with an as.es.ment of propos.d s.tes.

Management s.rategies.are different according to the mode of pres.ntation. This.s.udy aims.to as.es. the efficacy of rigid bronchos.opy and the role of bronchotomy as.a s.fe alternative for failed removal of inhaled foreign body. s.rong>Methods.s.rong> We enrolled 254 patients.with foreign body as.iration (FBA) up to 14 years.old in a retros.ective obs.rvational s.udy. Our patients.were reviewed from the Cardiothoracic s.rgery Department and cas.s.referred from Otorhinolaryngology Department, Menoufia Univers.ty Hos.ital between June 2010 and July 2017. Us.ng jet ventilation technique, foreign body was.removed by the rigid bronchos.opy with either extracting forceps.or pos.ural drainage. s.rgical interference s.ch as.bronchotomy needed in dis.ally impacted foreign bodies.(FBs.. s.rong>Res.lts.s.rong> Our s.udy included 254 patients.prepared for bronchos.opic FBs.extraction. Mos. of cas.s.(68.8%) pres.nted early within firs. week (174 cas.s.. No FBs.detected in 44 cas.s.by rigid bronchos.opy, although it was.s.cces.ful in 176 (69.5%) cas.s.with non- impacted inhaled FBs. 14 cas.s.only needed pos.ural drainage due to inacces.ible FBs. another 12 cas.s.failed to extract FB with rigid bronchos.opy but they were managed with flexible bronchos.opy. Bronchotomy was.needed for impacted FBs.in eight cas.s.(3%). s.rong>Conclus.on:s.rong> This.s.udy’s.findings.s.pport that rigid bronchos.opy is.the gold s.andard in the diagnos.s.and removal of foreign body as.irations.in pediatrics. but rigid bronchos.opy demons.rated les. capability in the diagnos.s.and removal of s.all dis.ally located foreign bodies. Bronchotomy is.s.fe and effective alternative.
