Introduction: Cataract surgery has undergone many changes with the size of incision progressively decreasing over time with an incision of 12.0 mm for intracapsular cataract extraction to 2.2 - 2.8 mm in phacoemulsification. However, phacoemulsification due to high cost and equipment maintenance cannot be employed widely in developing countries. The phacoalternative or Manual small-incision cataract surgery (MSICS) offers similar advantages with the merits of wider applicability, less time consuming, a shorter learning curve, and lower cost. Haven’t not being without complications like any other surgery We have identified the factors influencing the outcome of phacoalternative cataract surgery in order to improve our quality of care for our patients suffering from blindness induced by the world’s first leading cause of legal blindness. We have identified the factors influencing the outcome of cataract surgery. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective observational study of the descriptive type lasting six (6) months from March 1 to August 30, 2020 including all patients operated on for cataracts and having lower visual acuity at 3/10. The operating form included demographic data, the patient’s personal ophthalmological history, postoperative visual acuity, per and postoperative complications and the type of pathology involved. The analysis was carried out using epi-info 7.***.0.1 software. Results: During this study period, we collected 61 cases of failure of cataract surgery out of a total of 1182 operated eyes, i.e. a frequency of 5.16%. Women represented more than half of the sample with 74%. Almost all of our patients, i.e. 96.72%, were over the age of 60. Loss of visual acuity was the main complaint in all our patients, i.e. 100% followed by photophobia with 24.4% of cases. Introduction: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs is a marker of advanced atherosclerosis. It is one of the world’s most common cardiovascular diseases, present in one in five people over the age of 60, and carries an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of patients and their carers about obliterative arteriopathy of the lower limbs at Conakry University Hospital. Material and Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting 3 months, from March 12 to June 12, 2022 in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). Following free and informed consent, they were interviewed on the basis of a pre-established questionnaire. Socio-demographic data (age, gender, level of education) were collected, and knowledge of obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs. Results: The study involved 159 people, comprising 106 patients (66.66%) and 53 accompanying persons (33.34%) in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). The 60 to 79 age group was the most represented (44.7%), with an average age of 55.4 ± 15.9 years and extremes of 20 to 84 years. Half (47.8%) had not attended school, and almost all (96.4%) of those who had attended school had a low level of education (primary and secondary). Almost all of them (91.2%) had never heard of AOMI. Only 5% identified at least one risk factor, diabetes, hypertension and smoking. Amputation was the most frequently identified complication. About 98% did not know that AOMI is associated with myocardial infarction and stroke, and 93.7% did not know of any complications. Almost all the participants (99.4%) had poor knowledge of the following complications. Conclusion: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs could be prevented or delayed by screening and controlling risk factors. Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Among these CVDs, high blood pressure (hypertension) is the main one. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with hypertension in women in the market of Dantokpa. Study Method: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical survey undertaken on women selling in the Dantokpa market. The dependent variable is hypertension. Data analysis was done using Epi data 3.1 software. Results: A total of 255 women were enrolled in the study. The average age was 41.6 ± 12.13 years with extremes of 18 and 84 years. Among women, 114 (34%) were suffering from hypertension. The factors associated with hypertension in women in the Dantokpa market were above 40 years old, educated women, physical inactivity, family history of hypertension, salty food. Conclusion: At the end of this study, it appears that the prevalence of hypertension in women in the Dantokpa market is higher than that of the general female population. Therapeutic and preventive measures are necessary.

Potential antioxidant bioactive peptides from camel milk proteins

Camel milk is traditionally considered to have medicinal characteristics that it has potential health benefits and could help to treat several illnesses. Particularly, it is closest to human breast milk and has high levels of nutrients and bioactive components. The aim of this study was to explore the antioxidant peptides derived from protein fractions of camel milk. Camel milk proteins(CMP) were fractionated into camel casein protein(CCP) and camel whey protein(CWP), which were hydrolyzed with pepsin to produce peptic digests P-CCP and P-CWP, respectively. RP-HPLC was used for fractionation of the peptides from the P-CCP and P-CWP. The antioxidant activities were evaluated using superoxide anion generating system of xanthine oxidase(XOD)and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) scavenging assay. Active peptides were analyzed using matrixassisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS) whereas a number of antioxidant peptides, with masses ranging from 913 to 2,951 Da, derived mainly from alpha-casein, lactophorin and lactoferrin, were identified. When yeast cells are used as a system for modeling mitochondrial disease, the peptides in caseins and whey fractions significantly enhanced the tolerance of yeast cells against peroxide-induced oxidative stress. The results show that both caseins and whey proteins of camel milk possess bioactive peptides with significant radical-scavenging activities and thus herald a fascinating opportunity for their potential as nutraceuticals or therapeutic peptides for prevention and treatment of oxidative stress-associated diseases.

Background: Quantitative PCR (qPCR) can be used to detect and quantify a load of a pathogen. It is a good indicator of the degree of transmissibility. While performing routine qPCR, we observed an unusually short cycle threshold (Ct) value of SARS-CoV-2 for a clinical specimen obtained in Bamako, Mali. This prompted us to sequence the short-cycle SARS-CoV-2 sample to identify potential mutations in the Spike gene (S gene) gene. Methods: Post-infection, Quantitative Reverse Transcription (qRT-PCR) was performed over a defined time course to estimate the Ct of the SARS-CoV-2 specimen collected from the patient. Sanger sequencing was done on the entire fragment of the S gene to identify mutations. Findings: Sanger sequencing revealed mutations in the lineage of interest, designated B.1.525 by Pango, and also known as “Eta” using the nomenclature defined by WHO. This variant was originally found in Nigeria and Italy. The four novel mutations identified in Eta (D228N, Y451N, I1172M, and C1250F) were otherwise observed with a low frequency worldwide. Although the initial Ct was 10 in the case study patient, he did not exhibit severe symptoms of SARS-CoV-2, for example, pneumonia. However, we observed a longer viral clearance period than usual, of 3 weeks. We note that as compared to SARS-CoV-2 samples obtained during the first peaks of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Mali, when the infection was at its peak in March 2020 (Ct = 30.4), circulating strains evaluated at the time the Eta sample was obtained demonstrated a lower mean Ct (Ct = 24). Conclusions: The short cycle threshold associated with this variant, and the temporal association with a decrease in the mean Ct in the region of Bamako, may indicate higher levels of transmissibility due to a circulating variant. This variant is a lineage of interest designated B.1.525 by Pango or Eta by WHO.

Fibrous tumors of para testicular location are extremely rare benign tumors. The diagnosis of benignity, which allows a conservative treatment, will be made intraoperatively in front of the macroscopic aspect with well enucleable nodules and confirmed by the extemporaneous anatomopathological examination. We report a case of multiple calcified paratestinal pseudotumors in a 25-year old patient with no particular history, whose benignity was proven by the histology of the operative parts. Our objective was to discuss, from this observation and a review of the literature, the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of these tumors.

Trauma to the male genitalia is not very common and mainly affects a young population. There is probably a particular instinct in men to defend their external genitalia;indeed, in the flaccid state, the penis is little exposed, and fairly well protected and its mobility allows it to move with the impact of trauma and thus reduce the vulnating force. Open trauma is rare, as is testicular dislocation, the most common being closed trauma. Testicular trauma is an uncommon accident that affects young people. Trauma is most often caused by road and traffic accidents. Animal bites are rare, as is genital self-mutilation related to a psychiatric disorder. Surgical exploration is the rule except in cases of moderate testicular trauma. Our objective was to report our experience in an emergency context where treatment is poorly codified and to review the literature. We recorded four patients with external genitalia trauma managed in the urology department from April 2013 to March 2022. Our patients were children with open genitalia trauma following a traffic accident, scrotal injuries were encountered in three patients, and additional penile injuries in one patient. All patients were treated surgically. The follow-up was straightforward.

Crude of Plant extracts from materials is necessary screening to determine new biological activities, toxicity and active compounds in bioassay tests. Crude of Populus euphratica L. left is tested to phytochemical screening, constituents, fractionation and MIC technique as anti-fungal. The fractions are subjected to bio-compound analysis using Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry LC-MS. Phytochemical screening of crude extract shows presence of Glycosides compared with other compounds. While the fraction of ethanolic extract recorded inhibition impact reached (390, mg/L/MIC) agnist type of fungi. Bioassay toxicity using shrimp lethally test (LC50) was carried out with the result showing 4.1 mg/L is low toxic and can be used safely. alpha Glycoside (4, 6 Benzylidene-1O-Methyl-2O-(2346 Tetra-O-Acetyl-Betad- Glucosyl), is a new compound and antifungal action.
