This study involved an evaluation of the potential for bioremediation of polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) in the effluent from a large municipal wastewater treatment plant. It was focused on the presence of PCBs in two types of effluents: the continuous effluent present during dry weather conditions and the intermittently present effluent that was present during wet weather due to incoming stormwater. The annual discharge of PCBs for both types of effluent was calculated based on a five-year dataset(2011–2015). In addition, the toxicity and bioremediation potential of the PCBs in the effluent were also assessed. It was found that the continuous effluent was responsible for the majority of the discharged PCB into the receiving river(1821 g for five years), while the intermittent effluent contributed 260 g over the five *** average number of chlorine per biphenyl for the detected PCB congeners showed a 19%difference between the two types of effluent, which indicated a potential for organohalide respiration of PCBs during the continuous treatment. This was further supported by a high level of tri-, tetra-and penta-chlorinated congeners accounting for 75% of the anaerobically respired PCBs. Potential for aerobic degradation and thus biomineralization of PCBs was identified for both effluents. Furthermore, toxicity of 12 dioxin-like PCBs showed that normal operation of the wastewater reduced the toxicity throughout the wastewater treatment plant.

Objective:To compare limiting dilution assay and real-time PCR methods in Leishmania tropica parasite load measurement in vaccinated ***:BALB/c mice were vaccinated by Leishmania tropica soluble Leishmania antigen or recombinant Leishmania tropica stressinducible protein-1 with/without *** three vaccinations,mice were challenged by Leishmania tropica *** months after challenge,the draining lymph nodes of mice footpad were removed and parasite load was assayed by limiting dilution assay and real-time PCR *** dilution assay was done by diluting tissue samples to extinction in a biphasic *** real-time PCR,DNA of the lymph nodes was extracted,equal dilutions of each sample were prepared and hot-start real-time PCR was done using appropriate *** data of the two methods were compared by appropriate statistical ***:Both methods were able to measure different levels of parasite load in vaccinated/unvaccinated *** addition,wherever parasite load of a group was estimated high(or low)by one method,the estimated parasite load by another method was the same,although statistically significant differences were found between some ***:Both methods lead to approximately similar results in terms of differentiating parasite load of the experimental ***,due to the lower errors and faster process,the real-time PCR method is preferred.

Morphological and phylogenetic studies were carried out on the collected specimen of Flammulina yunnanensis.A detailed morphological description along with field images and ITS(internal transcribed spacer region)sequence analyses suggested that the collected specimen is *** has a hymeniform suprapellis with clavate-shaped terminal elements without ixohyphidia which is a distinguishing feature amongst other species of the genus *** yunnanensis is recorded for the first time in India.

The current work was performed to know the impact of cadmium(Cd)toxicity on two different genotypes of chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.)namely Pusa-BG1053 and *** was applied in the form of cadmium chloride(CdCl_(2)),in varying levels,0,25,50,75,and 100 mg Cd kg^(-1)*** growth as well as physiological attributes were decreased with increasing concentration of *** genotypes showed the maximum and significant reduction at the maximum dose of Cd(100 mg Cd kg^(-1)soil).Results of this study proved that the genotype Pusa-BG1053 was more tolerant and showed a lower decline in growth,photosynthetic and biochemical attributes than *** later genotype showed the maximum reduction and was sensitive to Cd stress.A better activity of antioxidants protected Pusa-BG1053 from Cd toxicity;on the other hand,the activity of antioxidants was much lower in *** electron microscopic studies showed differences in both *** Pusa-BG1053,stomatal quantity was higher and stomata were slightly close to the characteristic guard *** Pusa-BG372 stomata were lower,slightly open and with highly affected guard *** cell mortality due to the harsh effects of Cd appeared to be more evident in Pusa-BG372 than Pusa-BG1053,which was visible under a confocal *** a result of this study,Pusa-BG1053 was a more tolerant genotype,and exhibited a minimum reduction in terms of all studied parameters than Pusa-BG372,which was a sensitive genotype to Cd toxicity.

Salinity is one of the most severe abiotic stresses for crop *** present study investigates the salinityinduced modulation in growth indicators,morphology and movement of stomata,photosynthetic pigments,activity of carbonic anhydrase as well as nitrate reductase,and antioxidant systems in two varieties of chickpea(Pusa-BG5023,and Pusa-BGD72).On 20^(th) day of sowing,plants were treated with varying levels of NaCl(0,50,100,150 and 200 mM)followed by sampling on 45 days of *** observations on both the varieties reveal that salt stress leads to a significant decline in growth,dry biomass,leaf area,photosynthetic pigments,protein content,stomatal behavior,cell viability,activity of nitrate reductase and carbonic anhydrase with the rise in the concentration of ***,quantitatively these changes were less in Pusa-BG5023 as compared to ***,salinity-induced oxidative stress enhanced malondialdehyde content,superoxide radicals,foliar proline content,and the enzymatic activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,and *** variety Pusa-BGD72 was found more sensitive than Pusa-BG5023 to salt *** of different graded concentrations(50,100,150 and 200 mM)of sodium chloride,50 mM was least toxic,and 200 mM was most *** differential behavior of these two varieties measured in terms of stomatal behavior,cell viability,photosynthetic pigments,and antioxidant defense system can be used as prospective indicators for selection of chickpea plants for salt tolerance and sensitivity.

Environmental temperature variation may play a significant role in the adaptive evolutionary divergence of ectotherm thermal performance curves(TPCs).However,divergence in TPCs may also be constrained due to various ***,we measured TPCs for swimming velocity of temperate and tropical mayflies(Family:Baetidae)and their stonefly predators(Family:Perlidae)from different *** predicted that differences in seasonal climatic regimes would drive divergence in TPCs between temperate and tropical *** tropical temperatures should favor the evolution of"specialists"that perform well across a narrow range of ***,variable temperatures in temperate zones,however,should favor"generalists"that perform well across a broad range of *** phylogenetically paired comparisons of mayflies and stoneflies,swimming speed was generally unaffected by experimental temperature and did not differ among populations between latitudes,suggesting a maintenance of performance breadth across elevation and *** exception was found between temperate and tropical mayflies at low elevation where climatic differences between latitudes are *** addition,TPCs did not differ between mayflies and their stonefly predators,except at tropical low *** results indicate that divergence in TPCs may be con strai ned in aquatic in sects except under the most differe nt ther・mal regimes,perhaps because of trade-offs that reduce thermal sensitivity and increase performance breadth.
