Effect of axial length and anterior chamber depth on the peripheral refraction profile

AIM:To evaluate the effect of axial length(AL)and anterior chamber depth(ACD)on peripheral refractive profile in myopic patients compared to emmetropic ***:This cross-sectional study was conducted in right eyes of 58 participants of whom 38 were emmetropic and 20 were *** and peripheral refraction were measured at 10°,20°,and 30°eccentricities in nasal and temporal fields using an open-field *** Lenstar LS900 was used to measure ACD and *** participants were divided into three groups of short(24.5 mm)according to AL and three groups of low ACD(3.60 mm)according to ***:The mean age of the participants was 22.26±3.09 y(range 18-30 y).The peripheral mean spherical refractive error showed a hypermetropic shift in myopic and emmetropic groups although this shift was more pronounced in the myopic *** results showed significant changes in the spherical equivalent,J0,and J45 astigmatism in all gazes with an increase in eccentricity(P<0.001).The pattern of refractive error changes was more noticeable in long and short eyes versus normal AL ***,the pattern of peripheral refractive changes was much more prominent in the high ACD group versus the normal ACD group and in the normal ACD group versus the low ACD ***:Peripheral refraction changes are greater in participants with AL values outside the normal range and deeper ACD values compared to participants with normal AL and ACD.

Effect of astigmatism and spherical equivalent correction on contrast sensitivity

AIM:To investigate the effect of astigmatism and spherical equivalent(SE)correction on contrast sensitivity(CS).METHODS:In this cross-sectional study,103 visually normal subjects aged 18 to 36y with bilateral regular astigmatism in range of 1.00 diopter cylinder(DC)to 4.00 DC and normal best-corrected visual acuity(20/20)were *** CS was assessed by linear sine-wave gratings at 1.5,3,6,12,and 18 cycles per degree(cpd),before correction of astigmatism,after full correction of astigmatism by cylindrical spectacle lenses,and after SE of refractive *** repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni test were used to compare the effects of astigmatism correction on ***:Totally 39 patients were male and 64 patients were female with the mean age of 28.25±*** average degree of astigmatism in right and left eye was 2.03±0.83 and 2.10±0.78,*** in uncorrected astigmatic power correlated with decreases in the logCS,especially at high spatial frequencies.A statistically significant difference in logCS was found between these three cases:before correction of astigmatism,after SE of refractive error,and after full correction of astigmatism by cylindrical spectacle lenses at all frequencies(P<0.001),except at 18 *** 18 cpd,there was no statistically significant difference between logCS before and after SE of refractive error(P=1.0).Also,there was no statistically significant difference in mean CS between with-the-rule(WTR)and against-the-rule(ATR)astigmatism,before correction of astigmatism,after correction of astigmatism with cylindrical lenses,and after SE of refractive ***:Binocular astigmatism defocus decreases CS depending on the degree of astigmatism power;correction of this will improve patent’s quality of *** high astigmatism refractive error(more than 2.00 DC)that is fully corrected by cylindrical spectacle lenses doesn’t increase the CS to the maximum value,especially at higher spatial frequencies

The Effects of Cupping Therapy on Skin’s Biomechanical Properties in Wistar Rats

Cupping therapy has been widely used for clinical treatment of soft tissue lesions. The current study investigated the effects of cupping therapy on biomechanical properties of the skin in Wistar rats. 20 rats were divided into two groups: 10 in experimental and 10 in control group. Either the right or the left lower quadrants of the lumbar regions in the experimental group underwent 10 minutes daily cupping therapy for 12 days. The skin stiffness and ultimate tensile strength of all the rats were measured using tensiometer. The skin stiffness and ultimate tensile strength were decreased significantly in cupping side of the experimental group as compared with the non-cupping side and the control group. There were no significant differences between the non-cupping side of the experimental group and the control group. In conclusion, cupping therapy can be useful as a treatment method to reduce the skin stiffness and ultimate tensile strength.

Broadrange tunable slow and fast light in quantum dot photonic crystal structure

Slow and fast light processes, based on both structural and material dispersions, are realized in a wide tuning range in this article. Coherent population oscillations （CPO） in electrically tunable quantum dot semiconductor optical amplifiers lead to a variable group index ranging from the background index （nbgd） to^30. A photonic crystal waveguide is then dispersion engineered and a group index of 260 with the normalized delay-bandwidth product （NDBP） of 0.65 is achieved in the proposed waveguide. Using comprehensive numerical simulations, we show that a considerable enhancement of slow light effect can be achieved by combining both the material and the structural dispersions in the proposed active QDPCW structure. We compare our developed FDTD results with analytical results and show that there is good agreement between the results, which demonstrates that the proposed electrically-tunable slow light idea is obtainable in the QDPCW structure. We achieve a total group index in a wide tuning range from nbgd to^1500 at the operation bandwidth, which shows a significant enhancement compared with the schemes based only on material or structural dispersions. The tuning range and also NDBP of the slow light scheme are much larger than those of the electrically tunable CPO process.

Estimating solubility of supercritical H_2S in ionic liquids through a hybrid LSSVM chemical structure model

Development of a predictive tool for H_2S solubility estimation can be very helpful in gas sweetening industry. Experimental databases on H_2 S solubility were rarely available, so as reliable predictive models. Thus, in this study the H_2 S solubility database was established, and then a Least-Squares Support Vector Machine(LSSVM) approach based on the established database is proposed. Group contribution method was also applied to eliminate the model's dependence on experimental data. Accordingly, our proposed LSSVM model can predict H_2 S solubility as a function of temperature, pressure, and 15 different chemical structures of Ionic liquids(ILs). Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) and coefficient of determination(R^2) are 0.0122 and 0.9941, respectively. Moreover, comparison of our model with other existing models showed its reliability for H_2 S solubility in ILs. This can be very useful for engineers dealing with gas sweetening process in different applications of analysis, simulation, and designation.

Performance of carbon nanotube(CNT) and their attached metal oxides(manganese oxide(MnO) and cadmium dioxide(CdO2)) structures as anode electrodes in lithium-ion battery(LIB) and potassium-ion battery(KIB) are investigated. The Gibbs free energy of adsorption of Li and K atoms/ions on surfaces of CNT(8, 0), CNT(8, 0)-MnO and CNT(8, 0)-CdO2 are calculated. The cell voltages(Vcell) of Li and K atoms/ions adsorption on studied surfaces are examined. The Vcell of LIBs with metal-oxides attached to CNT(8, 0) as anode electrodes are higher than those KIBs. The adsorbed metal oxides(MnO and CdO2) on CNT(8, 0) increased the charges, electronic conductivity and Vcell of LIB and KIB, efficiently. The CNT(8, 0)-CdO2 as anode electrodes in LIB and KIB is proposed.

In the present work,a novel machine learning computational investigation is carried out to accurately predict the solubility of different acids in supercritical carbon *** different machine learning algorithms of radial basis function,multi-layer perceptron(MLP),artificial neural networks(ANN),least squares support vector machine(LSSVM)and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)are used to model the solubility of different acids in carbon dioxide based on the temperature,pressure,hydrogen number,carbon number,molecular weight,and the dissociation constant of *** evaluate the proposed models,different graphical and statistical analyses,along with novel sensitivity analysis,are carried *** present study proposes an efficient tool for acid solubility estimation in supercritical carbon dioxide,which can be highly beneficial for engineers and chemists to predict operational conditions in industries.
