This work develops a standalone autonomously controlled personalized ventilation(PV)unit in a naturally ventilated(NV)office space to maintain acceptable thermal comfort{TQ under steady and transient indoor conditions and activity *** NV-PV proportional integral derivative(PID)controller adjusts the PV supply temperature(7spv)at the occupant set flow rate(Qspv)based on predicted TC using a regression *** target TC level that the controller attains at all times is between 0(neutral)and 1(slightly comfortable).Process transfer functions were developed and then used to find the adaptive PID tuning coefficients using the Internal Model Control(IMC)*** controller was tested in a case study at indoor temperature range of 25 to 33℃ with relative humidity range of 55%and 80%.It was shown that the NV-PV controller adjusted Tspv to maintain acceptable TC under transients of indoor conditions and metabolic rates.

This paper deals with the simultaneous estimation of states and unknown inputs for a class of Lipschitz nonlinear systems using only the measured outputs. The system is assumed to have bounded uncertainties that appear on both the state and output matrices. The observer design problem is formulated as a set of linear constraints which can be easily solved using linear matrix inequalities (LMI) technique. An application based on manipulator arm actuated by a direct current (DC) motor is presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed observer. The observer is applied to estimate both state and faults.

A novel magnetic hydrogel loaded with graphene oxide(GO)was developed in this ***,GO was prepared from bagasse through a single step via oxidation in the presence of ferrocene under muffled atmospheric conditions,followed by the loading of different amounts of magnetite onto GO via co-precipitation reaction of iron onto GO ***,the 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid was grafted onto carboxymethyl cellulose in the presence of magnetite GO and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide as crosslinker yielded *** structure,morphological,and thermal behavior of the prepared hydrogels were *** addition,the adsorption performance of Ni(Ⅱ)ions from aqueous media by the prepared hydrogels was investigated as a function of temperature,time,and concentration of adsorbate in a batch *** results demonstrated a remarkable enhancement in the adsorption process of Ni(Ⅱ)(Removal efficiency=98.82%).All isotherms were found to fit the Langmuir model *** adsorption properties of both magnetic GO and magnetic hydrogel showed promising properties as green and cheap adsorbents.

Water is a vital *** supports a multitude of industries,civilizations,and ***,climatic conditions impact water availability,particularly in desert areas where the temperature is high,and rain is ***,it is crucial to forecast water demand to provide it to sectors either on regular or emergency *** study aims to develop an accurate model to forecast daily water demand under the impact of climatic *** forecasting is known as a multivariate time series because it uses both the historical data of water demand and climatic conditions to forecast the *** on the collected data of Jeddah city,Saudi Arabia in the period between 2004 and 2018,we develop a hybrid approach that uses Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)for forecasting and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm(PSO)for tuning ANNs’*** on the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)metric,results show that the(PSO-ANN)is an accurate model for multivariate time series ***,the first day is the most difficult day for prediction(highest error rate),while the second day is the easiest to predict(lowest error rate).Finally,correlation analysis shows that the dew point is the most climatic factor affecting water demand.

We report here a one-pot synthetic method for the synthesis of a bisester-functionalized copillar[5]arene(BECP5A) with yield up to 20%. The properties of BECP5A in solution and in solid state were deeply investigated with the aid of 1D and 2D NMR spectra and X-ray diffraction, showing that this molecule has a fully self-included conformation in chloroform and partial self-inclusion in DMSO, and the compound has an asymmetrical structure with only one self-included side in the cavity of pillar[5]arene in the solid state. This compound will be used as the precursor of complex systems such as polymers and mechanically interlocked molecules.

Pterochloroides persicae （Cholodkovsky） is an aphid species belonging to the subfamily Lachninae that uses different members of Rosaceae （specially Prunus spp.） as hosts. Partial sequences from the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase 1 （COI） and the nuclear long-wave opsin genes were obtained for approximately 100 P. persicae aphid individuals sampled from 34 colonies collected mainly in Tunisia and other Mediterranean locations. The variability found at the mitochondrial locus revealed the presence of two maternal haplotypes in the studied area that differed in a single nucleotide. The nuclear gene analyzed, however, failed to reveal any variability in this species. The variability found at the COI locus was related to the season of aphid sampling and with the site of feeding, with haplotype I mostly detected in samples collected in spring and summer on trunks and branches and haplotype II only detected in aphids collected in autumn on roots. The observed pattern of molecular variation suggests the presence of two clonal races of P. persicae coexisting in the studied area differentially adapted to conditions prevalent in the alternative seasons and/or to different feeding sites.

Positioning patients for spine surgery: Avoiding uncommon position-related complications

Positioning patients for spine surgery is pivotal for optimal operating conditions and operative-site exposure. During spine surgery, patients are placed in positions that are not physiologic and may lead to complications. Perioperative peripheral nerve injury(PPNI) and postoperative visual loss(POVL) are rare complications related to patient positioning during spine surgery that result in significant patient disability and functional loss. PPNI is usually due to stretch or compression of the peripheral nerve. PPNI may present as a brachial plexus injury or as an isolated injury of single nerve, most commonly the ulnar nerve. Understanding the etiology, mechanism and pattern of injury with each type of nerve injury is important for the prevention of PPNI. Intraoperative neuromonitoring has been used to detect peripheral nerve conduction abnormalities indicating peripheral nerve stress under general anesthesia and to guide modification of the upper extremity position to prevent PPNI. POVL usually results in permanent visual loss. Most cases are associated with prolonged spine procedures in the prone position under general anesthesia. The most common causes of POVL after spine surgery are ischemic optic neuropathy and central retinal artery occlusion. Posterior ischemic opticneuropathy is the most common cause of POVL after spine surgery. It is important for spine surgeons to be aware of POVL and to participate in safe, collaborative perioperative care of spine patients. Proper education of perioperative staff, combined with clear communication and collaboration while positioning patients in the operating room is the best and safest approach. The prevention of uncommon complications of spine surgery depends primarily on identifying high-risk patients, proper positioning and optimal intraoperative management of physiological parameters. Modification of risk factors extrinsic to the patient may help reduce the incidence of PPNI and POVL.
