Organophosphate Pesticides in Coastal Lagoon of the Gulf of Mexico

The worldwide use of semi-persistent organophosphate pesticides has become increasingly frequent and notorious. Their presence is registered in both continental and coastal waters;the latter ones are known for their subtly balanced environmental richness, difficult to recover once lost. These xenobiotics compounds reach the coastal zone through rivers that have crossed human settlements, as well as through peripheral run-off water used to exterminate agricultural pests. In Mexico, a developing country, the use of pesticides for several decades has not been adequately regulated, which is why various coastal ecosystems are the accumulation areas of these agrochemicals used in the continent. In the Gulf of Mexico, one of the coastal systems of high fishing importance for many years is the lagoon of Alvarado and receives the discharges of two great rivers, Blanco, Limón and Papaloapan, which travel more than 200 km from its source to the sea, crossing large extensions of farmland where there are also livestock activities and the use of these pesticides. For this reason, the objective of this work was to determine the presence of organophosphate pesticides in the Alvarado lagoon at the Gulf of Mexico as a potential aspect of high impact contamination. Five pesticides have been identified in the lagoon sediments, of which the most important and highest concentrations are Dimethoate and Chlorpyrifos, with 75.65 - 79.0 ng/g and 0.17 - 0.23 ng/g respectively, both internationally classified as moderately toxic. These concentrations were comparable to levels in other world regions with intense agricultural activity and vector control like the Mediterranean Sea and the lagoon of Alvarado was evidenced as a hot spot for the accumulation of these organophosphates with the high risk for the benthic organisms and for the human health when consuming these fishery products.

The Claromec o Basin is located at the south-western sector of the Buenos Aires province,*** basin is considered a foreland basin closely related to the evolution of the southwestern Gondwana *** contribution focuses on the provenance analysis of the Tunas Formation(Permian,Pillahuinc o Group),which represents the last filling stage for the Claromec o Foreland *** and tectonic provenance analyses were performed in sandstones recovered from subsurface(PANG 0001 and PANG0003 exploration wells)and outcrops located close to the basin center(Gonzales Chaves locality).In the subsurface,the analyzed succession is composed of medium-to fine-grained sandstones interbedded with tuffs,mudrocks,carbonaceous mudrocks and coal *** outcrops,the succession is dominated by mediumto fine-grained sandstones interbedded with *** composition patterns are distributed into the recycled orogen and transitionally recycled to mixed *** analyses,in addition to provenance and sedimentological studies,confirm that sedimentary material was derived from a mixed source,which largely comes from the Sierras Australes fold and thrust belt,located towards the W-SW,where the sedimentary succession is interbedded with volcanic *** Tunas Formation shows clear differences in its modal composition,paleocurrent direction and paleoenvironmental conditions with respect to the underlying units of the Pillahuinc o Group(Sauce Grande,Piedra Azul and Bonete formations).Source areas changed from cratonic to mixed fold belt/arc-derived material,suggesting variations in the Claromec o Basin configuration during the Late *** in the paleotectonic scenario during the deposition of the Tunas Formation have been interpreted as a consequence of a compressive post-collisional deformation event,the product of adjustment,accommodation and translation of terrains towards the equator during the Permian-Triassic to form Pangea.

Cattle-Breeding Valley Plains and C4 Spontaneous Grasses in North Patagonia

The climate of North Patagonia (Argentina) is semiarid and the region periodically suffers severe droughts that may lastseveral years, decreasing forage offer and consequently cow livestock and productivity. In most of the cattle fields extensive grazing isusually continuous through the year-long. The absence of pasture rotational schemata affects rangeland health changing thecomposition of plants communities in detriment of the valuable species. When under a severe drought, the appreciated forageLeptochloa crinita (= Trichloris crinita) stopped reproduction and the population became scarce, a grazing schedule was designed in acattle farm to avoid foraging during spring and summer in a paddock located in the valley plains, where the species was *** L. crinita populations, the sympatric presence of the Poaceae Aristida mendocina, Distichlis spicata and Distichlis scoparia isexpected, each one in slightly different patches within the same area. The forage value differs between species but all of them are eatenby bovines. For ten years the plant communities were studied with the aims of determining the incidence of the patches on the paddockcarrying capacity in early autumn and estimating the contribution of the four C4 species to bovine diet by microhistology. Free ofgrazing during its growing period, L. crinite enhanced the area of its patches and the biomass production of its good quality forage andwas consumed preferently. A. mendocina is not prized by cattle but contributed to the diet at the end of the foraging period. Distichlisspp. is important component of the cows’ diet, especially in dry years. Management actions to preserve a valuable species may haveside effects involving other community members.

Three behaviors of epidemiological importance,namely feeding latency,feeding duration and defecation latency,for six populations of Meccus phyllosomus longipennis(Usinger)from areas of central,western and north-central Mexico with high(HP)and low(LP)prevalence of Trypanosoma cruzi(Chagas)human infection were evaluated in this *** median feeding latency(the time taken to begin feeding)was highly variable between ***-instar comparisons showed that at least 65%of the LP populations(N3 to adult)started to feed significantly(P<0.05)later than the HP population,with N1 showing no difference,and N2 from LP populations feeding sooner than those from HP *** six populations had similar median feeding durations within instars.A higher(P<0.05)percentage of the instars from HP populations defecated faster than the respective instars from the three LP *** 25%of the young nymphs(N1 to N3)and females in the HP populations defecated<2 min postfeeding,compared with 4%-6%of the young nymphs and 1.3%-3%of females in the LP ***,17.7%-38.8%of the older nymphs(N4 to N5)in the HP populations and 6.8%-13.4%in the LP populations defecated during or immediately after *** results indicate that the HP populations have a greater potential than the LP populations to transmit *** infections,which may underlie the differences in the prevalence of *** infection in some areas where M *** is currently distributed.

Objective:To assess the usefulness of IGRA test(QuantiFERON? -Cell mediated immune) compared with the tuberculin skin ***:A cross-sectional study was carried out in Mexico,25 infected patients with HIV-AIDS and the suspicion or with latent tuberculous infection （LTBI） who were>18 years of age and without treatment for tuberculosis（TB）,were enrolled in the ***:Median cluster of differentiation（CD4） count was 364 cells/μL and median HIV viral load was 50 copies/***,20 patients（80%） had at least one positive diagnostic test for LTBI:four（16%） had a positive tuberculin skin test and 19（76%）,a positive QuantiFERON ? -***:No agreement is found between the two diagnostic tests:k = -0.004,95%confidence interval（-0.2219,0.2210）.Additional longitudinal studies among HIV-infected populations with high prevalence of TB are needed to further assess the usefulness of IGRAs in this patient population.

Resection of the uncinate process of the pancreas due to a ganglioneuroma

A 33-year-old woman who presented with epigastric discomfort and diarrhea underwent an abdominal ultrasound(US).This investigation and subsequent contrastenhanced computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging and endoscopic US with fine needle aspiration (FNA)revealed a 40 mm well-circumscribed mass in the uncinate process of the *** were suggestive of a mucinous or solid-cystic pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas,although other lesions such as a nonfunctioning neuroendocrine tumor could not be ruled *** samples were negative for malignant cells,but of limited value due to poor *** was decided to surgically remove the tumor because malignancy could not be *** intraoperative biopsies were suggestive of mesenchymal tumor and consequently a conservative resection(uncinatectomy)was performed. Reference penile size measurement and correlation with other anthropometric dimensions:a prospective study in 800 men

A simple arylhydrazone containing the benzothiazole moiety which may be used as an efficient ligand in the palladium-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions, under infrared irradiation as an alternative source of energy, is presented. The reactions proceeded with extremely high efficiency under mild conditions and produced very good yields.
