Integrated Effects of Rhizobial Inoculum and Inorganic Fertilizers on Wheat Yield and Yield Components

An experiment was conducted in pots under natural condition with two factor factorial completely randomized design (CRD) (CRD) to investigate the integrated effect of rhizobia inoculums and inorganic fertilizers on growth and yield of wheat crop at The University of Agriculture Peshawar, during 2012-2013. The experiment was comprised of four inoculums (no, lentil, peas and chickpeas) and two NPK levels (recommended 120:90:60 kg·ha-1 & 20% less of recommended). It was observed that inoculation of wheat by rhizobia significantly increased tillers per plant by a maximum of 42%, plant height by 13%, grain per spike by 16%, 100 grain weight by 10%, biological and grain yield by 10% over un-inoculated (control) treatment. Among inoculums, peas inoculum was found to be the most efficient for all traits except plant height where chickpea inoculum performed better. Similarly recommended NPK significantly increased tillers per plant by 33%, plant height by 19%, grain per spike by 9%, 100 grain weight by 10%, biological yield by 8% and grain yield by 10% compared with 20% less of recommended NPK. Interactive effect of inoculum x NPK was significant for tillers per plant, grain per spike, grain yield and non-significant for plant height, 100 grain weight and biological yield. However, it was evident from the results that inoculation improved all traits both under recommended and 20% less of recommended NPK. The persistent good performance of peas and lentil rhizobial inoculation in wheat growth exhibited that this could be used as a plant growth promoting rhizobacteria for wheat and other cereal crops in prevailing soil and climatic conditions.

Potential of AM Fungi in Phytoremediation of Heavy Metals and Effect on Yield of Wheat Crop

A pot experiment was conducted to determine the potential of AM fungi in phytoremediation of heavy metals and its effect on yield of wheat crop. The experiment was conducted in CR Design with four replications during rabi 2012-13. Data showed no increase in grain and shoot yields by AMF inoculation with Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn at different levels but increased root yield, plant height, spike length and hundred grains weight of wheat as compared with uninoculated crop. Post-harvest soil Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn contents of 2, 4.4, 2.8 and 2.9 mg·kg-1, respectively were maximum in uninoculated plants treated with Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn at triple of recommended level. No increases in plant P, N, Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn uptakes were observed by the inoculation of AMF when compared with uninoculated crop. Maximum plant Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn uptakes of 160.5, 206, 1914.6 and 2653 g·ha-1, respectively were recorded in uninoculated plants applied with Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn at triple of recommended levels. Wheat roots infection intensity by AMF increased with higher AMF soil spores density. Results suggest the potential of phytoremediation of contaminated soil to be improved by the inoculation of crops with AMF.

This paper provides a proposal of implementation of latest technologies in photovoltaic installation and management system. Punjab Government Cooperative Housing Society was selected to find out suitability for photovoltaic installation and its management after that. Google Earth imagery and scanned maps were selected for the preparation of spatial and attribute data of buildings in the study area by using ArcGIS software. In first stage data were digitized and suitability and potential for each building were estimated. In second stage all the tabular data which consisted of owner information, panel information, its potential and location were linked to each other for management purpose. Selected area for solar panels installation was linked to building information for query and visualization.

Economics of Different Genotypes of Cotton Planted under Various Planting Densities

A field experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the economics of different genotypes of cotton planted under various planting densities at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture Faisalabad during the summer season in 2013. Sowing was done manually with the help of dibbling method on both sides of the bed in standing water, with bed distance of 75 cm. The crop was sown in May and the experiment comprised of following FH-142, FH-114 at various densities (S1 = 10 cm, S2 = 15 cm, S3 =20 cm, S4 = 25 cm, S5 = 30 cm). Data regarding net field benefit, benefit cost ratio, dominance analysis, and marginal rate of return were collected. The experimental results showed that maximum NFB of (Rs. 222,575), (Rs. 202,483) was achieved in FH-142 and FH-114 when planted at a plant spacing of 20 cm and 15 cm respectively. While the maximum benefit cost ratio (BCR) of 1.76 was found in genotype FH-142 at plant spacing of 20 and 25 cm and FH-114 depicted maximum BCR of 1.62 and 1.61 when planted at plant spacing of 15 and 20 cm, respectively. Dominance analysis of FH-142 planted at 10 and 15 cm while FH-114 at plant spacing of 10, 15 and 20 cm was dominated due to their lower net field benefits as compared to other treatments, while maximum marginal rate of return (1494%, 788%) by planting FH-142, FH-114 was obtained at 30 cm and 25 cm recorded respectively.

传统机械加工易造成石英玻璃等绝缘硬脆材料表面微裂纹损伤和侧壁崩碎过切的现象。电化学放电加工可实现石英玻璃的无损伤加工且加工精度可达到微米级,但难以解决无损伤加工精度和加工效率之间的矛盾。以表面无损伤高效率加工石英玻璃为目标,提出了超声振动辅助机械铣削复合电化学放电加工的新方法,分析了该方法的作用机制;采用高速气动主轴实现了高转速下的脉冲电传导,解决了传统主轴的高速旋转电刷扰动和脉冲电信号导入两方面技术难题。基于高速摄像机研究了在该方法条件下的微观瞬时电解生成气泡/气膜过程,并结合基础实验得到工艺规律,还通过窄槽结构加工验证该方法可有效改善石英玻璃的无损伤加工效率。

空气静压轴承在精密机床和计量设备等制造业领域应用广泛.多孔质空气静压轴承是一种特殊类型的空气静压轴承,其由于使用了多孔质材料,因此更加稳定和坚固.目前针对这类轴承有关气流参数对轴承静态特性及性能影响的研究还较为欠缺.为此,本文提出了一个数学模型用于模拟多孔质空气静压推力轴承的静态特性,包括承载能力、刚度及质量流率等.通过使用基于Navier-Stokes方程的计算,对轴承内部的压力分布进行了分析.随后,研究了对轴承静态特性可能产生影响的相关气流参数及其影响情况.研究结果表明,轴承气膜层厚度的增加会导致轴承承载能力和刚度的下降,但增加多孔质层的厚度可以提高轴承刚度.此外,增加气膜层厚度会使得进入轴承的空气质量流率得以提升.这些结果可用于帮助设计更为高效且能够承担更高负载的多孔质空气静压轴承.

Expression profiling of transgenes(Cry1Ac and Cry2A) in cotton genotypes under different genetic backgrounds

Transgenic cotton carrying the CrylAc gene has revolutionized insect pest control since its adoption,although the development of resistance in insect pests has reduced its *** 10 years of cultivating Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)cotton with a single Cry1 Ac gene,growers are on the verge of adopting Bt cotton that carries the double gene(Cry1 Ac+Cry2 A)due to its better effectiveness against insect ***,the current study was designed to evaluate the role of each gene in the effectiveness of Bt cotton carrying the double *** expression levels of the Cry1 Ac and Cry2 A genes were evaluated in the leaves of 10 genotypes(2 parents and 8 Fhybrids)at 30 days after sowing(DAS),while samples of leaves,bolls and flowers were taken from the upper and lower canopies at 70 and 110 *** Fhybrids were developed through reciprocal crosses between two Bt(CKC-1,CKC-2)and two non-Bt(MNH-786,FH-942)*** differential expression of transgenes was evaluated through Enzyme Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay(ELISA).The results showed that the MNH786 xCKC-1 hybrid had the highest concentrations of Cry1 Ac gene at30 DAS(3.08μg g^(-1))and 110 DAS(1.01μg g^(-1))in *** contrast,the CKC-2 xMNH-786 hybrid showed the lowest concentrations of Cry1 Ac gene at 30 DAS(2.30μg g^(-1))and 110 DAS(0.86μg g^(-1)).The Fhybrid FH-942×CKC-2 showed the highest concentrations of Cry2 A gene at 30 DAS(8.39μg g^(-1))and 110 DAS(7.74μg g^(-1))in leaves,while the CKC-1 xMNH-786 hybrid expressed the lowest concentrations of Cry2 A gene at 30 DAS(7.10μg g^(-1))and 110 DAS(8.31μg g^(-1)).A comparison between the two stages of plant growth showed that leaves had the highest concentrations at 30 DAS,whereas the lowest concentrations were observed at 110 DAS for both genes in *** the expression pattern was compared between various plant parts in genotype CKC-2,it was found that leaves had higher concentrations of Cry1 Ac(3.12μg g^(-1))and Cry2 A(8.31μg g^(-1))at 70 DAS,followed by bolls

The current article is an opinion on the sensitivity of high mountain regions which are the most fragile,sensitive and vulnerable to ongoing climate *** impacts are especially severe on the high mountain communities owing to their weak socio-economic profile,limited livelihood resources and agricultural *** melting of glaciers and changes in the snow cover under the climate change scenario is leading to the scarcity of freshwater supplies,affecting both local and downstream *** in the precipitation patterns have been suggested to cause droughts,impact restricted agriculture,and limit the availability of water for domestic ***,the high mountain areas contain distinct flora and fauna,and climate change is not just altering them,but also has resulted in biodiversity loss as species are unable to adapt to the changing *** of its higher altitudes and semi-arid to arid climate,the consequences of climate change are more evident in the higher *** change is affecting the availability of key resources,such as freshwater and agriculture and pasture lands,resulting in food and water insecurity and their reliance on imports from other *** a result,high mountain communities in the Himalayas are progressively shifting to higher glacier valleys in search of suitable cultivable land with adequate *** are engaging in agro-pastoral activities around thermokarst lakes(Oasis)atop rock glaciers as part of this *** actions underscore the crucial role of rock glaciers in dealing with and adjusting to the consequences of climate *** its relevance,rock glacier research in the Himalayan region is still in its *** purpose of this work is to emphasise the significance of these major climate-resilient water resources,as well as the methodology that must be adopted for their systematic and compressive investigations.
