Survey and technological analysis of laser and its defense applications

The laser technology has made remarkable progress over the past couple of decades.It is being widely employed in diverse domains,such as holography,space sciences,spectroscopy,medical sciences,micro and power electronics,industrial engineering,and most distinctively,as directed energy military weapons.Owing to their active transmissions,laser systems are similar to microwave radars to some extent;however,unlike conventional radars,the laser operates at very high frequencies thus making it a potent enabler of narrow-beam and high energy aerial deployments,both in offensive and defensive roles.In modern avionics systems,laser target indicators and beam riders are the most common devices that are used to direct the Laser Guided Weapons(LGW)accurately to the ground targets.Additionally,compact size and outstanding angular resolution of laser-based systems motivate their use for drones and unmanned aerial applications.Moreover,the narrow-beam divergence of laser emissions offers a low probability of intercept,making it a suitable contender for secure transmissions and safety-critical operations.Furthermore,the developments in space sciences and laser technology have given synergistic potential outcomes to use laser systems in space operations.This paper comprehensively reviews laser applications and projects for strategic defense actions on the ground or in space.Additionally,a detailed analysis has been done on recent advancements of the laser technology for target indicators and range-finders.It also reviews the advancements in the field of laser communications for surveillance,its earlier state of the art,and ongoing scientific research and advancements in the domain of high energy directed laser weapons that have revolutionized the evolving military battlefield.Besides offering a comprehensive taxonomy,the paper also critically analyzes some of the recent contributions in the associated domains.

Energy supply for water electrolysis systems using wind and solar energy to produce hydrogen: a case study of Iran

Due to acute problems caused by fossil fuels that threaten the environment, conducting research on other types of energy carriers that are clean and renewable is of great importance. Since in the past few years hydrogen has been introduced as the future fuel, the aim of this study is to evaluate wind and solar energy potentials in prone areas of Iran by the Weibull distribution function (WDF) and the Angstrom-Prescott (AP) equation for hydrogen production. To this end, the meteorological data of solar radiation and wind speed recorded at 10 m height in the time interval of 3 h in a five-year period have been used. The findings indicate that Manjil and Zahedan with yearly wind and solar energy densities of 6004 (kWh/m2) and 2247 0cWh/m2), respectively, have the greatest amount of energy among the other cities. After examining three different types of commercial wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) systems, it becomes clear that by utilizing one set of Gamesa G47 turbine, 91 kg/d of hydrogen, which provides energy for 91 car/week, can be produced in Manjil and will save about 1347 L of gasoline in the week. Besides, by installing one thousand sets of X21-345 PV systems in Zahedan, 20 kg/d of hydrogen, enough for 20 cars per week, can be generated and 296 L of gasoline can be saved. Finally, the RETScreen software is used to calculate the annual CO2 emission reduction after replacing gasoline with the produced hydrogen.

以氧化石墨烯(GO)、聚氨酯(PU)和亲水性聚2-丙烯酰胺-2-甲基丙烷磺酸(PAMPS)为原料,制备出无支撑的PU基复合膜和PAMPS基复合膜。研究氧化石墨烯聚合物基膜用于含极性材料废液如水、氨水、以及含非极性二氯甲烷和氨-二氯甲烷混合废液的渗透行为。采用不同表征方法如X射线衍射仪(XRD)、接触角、场发射扫描电子显微镜(FESEM)、红外光谱仪(FT-IR)和力学性能测试仪来评价所制复合膜的综合性能。采用ASTM E96/96-M14设备进行复合膜的渗透测试。结果表明,PAMPS基复合膜因较高的亲水性,具有最佳的水和氨渗透性能,而PU基复合膜具有最佳的二氯甲烷渗透性,最差的水和氨的渗透性。

Genuine entanglement under squeezed generalized amplitude damping channels with memory

We study genuine entanglement among three qubits undergoing a noisy process that includes dissipation, squeezing,and decoherence. We obtain a general solution and analyze the asymptotic quantum states. We find that most of these asymptotic states can be genuinely entangled depending upon the parameters of the channel, memory parameter, and the parameters of the initial states. We study Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger(GHZ) states and W states, mixed with white noise,and determine the conditions for them to be genuinely entangled at infinity. We find that for these mixtures, it is possible to start with a bi-separable state(with a specific mixture of white noise) and end with genuine entangled states. However, the memory parameter μ must be very high. We find that in contrast to the two-qubit case, none of the three-qubit asymptotic states for n → ∞ are genuinely entangled.

An artificial neural network model in predicting VTEC over central Anatolia in Turkey

This research investigates the capability of artificial neural networks to predict vertical total electron content(VTEC)over central Anatolia in Turkey.The VTEC dataset was derived from the 19 permanent Global Positioning System(GPS)stations belonging to the Turkish National Permanent GPS NetworkActive(TUSAGA-Aktif)and International Global Navigation Satellite System Service(IGS)networks.The study area is located at 32.6°E-37.5°E and 36.0°N-42.0°N.Considering the factors inducing VTEC variations in the ionosphere,an artificial neural network(NN)with seven input neurons in a multi-layer perceptron model is proposed.The KURU and ANMU GPS stations from the TUSAGA-Aktif network are selected to implement the proposed neural network model.Based on the root mean square error(RMSE)results from 50 simulation tests,the hidden layer in the NN model is designed with 41 neurons since the lowest RMSE is achieved in this attempt.According to the correlation coefficients,absolute and relative errors,the NN VTEC provides better predictions for hourly and quarterly GPS VTEC.In addition,this paper demonstrates that the NN VTEC model shows better performance than the global IRI2016 model.Regarding the spatial contribution of the GPS network to TEC prediction,the KURU station performs better than ANMU station in fitting with the proposed NN model in the station-based comparison.

Shot classification and replay detection for sports video summarization

Automated analysis of sports video summarization is challenging due to variations in cameras,replay speed,illumination conditions,editing effects,game structure,genre,etc.To address these challenges,we propose an effective video summarization framework based on shot classification and replay detection for field sports videos.Accurate shot classification is mandatory to better structure the input video for further processing,i.e.,key events or replay detection.Therefore,we present a lightweight convolutional neural network based method for shot classification.Then we analyze each shot for replay detection and specifically detect the successive batch of logo transition frames that identify the replay segments from the sports videos.For this purpose,we propose local octa-pattern features to represent video frames and train the extreme learning machine for classification as replay or non-replay frames.The proposed framework is robust to variations in cameras,replay speed,shot speed,illumination conditions,game structure,sports genre,broadcasters,logo designs and placement,frame transitions,and editing effects.The performance of our framework is evaluated on a dataset containing diverse YouTube sports videos of soccer,baseball,and cricket.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework can reliably be used for shot classification and replay detection to summarize field sports videos.

Simulation of the deformable lateral boundaries in biaxial test using DEM

Applying the discrete element method(DEM)in soil mechanics can provide abundant information at the particle-scale and facilitates illustration of the macro-mechanical behaviour of soils based on the inter-particle mechanisms.The triaxial test is one of the most common laboratory methods to study the macro-mechanical behaviour of particulate materials such as soil.However,many problems in geotechnical design can be assumed and simplified as a plane strain phenomenon.Therefore a biaxial test can be conducted to reproduce the macro-mechanical behaviour of soil,where the sample is enclosed by two horizontal rigid platens and a vertical latex membrane,which is a deformable continuous element and allows the enclosed specimen to deform freely while maintaining confining stress during loading.This paper presents an algorithm to represent physical and mechanical characteristics of latex membrane in the 2D DEM simulation of biaxial test using the PFC 2D code.To investigate the impact of the lateral boundary conditions on the micro-macro mechanical behaviours of soil samples,two sets of DEM biaxial tests are conducted,i.***.with rigid and deformable lateral boundary conditions.The DEM modeling results indicate that the lateral boundary conditions have a significant effect on the micro-scale fabric properties,thickness and inclination of the shear band.The comparison between these two simulations also demonstrates that the lateral boundary conditions play a major role in the peak and post-peak stress-strain behaviours as well as the dilation and critical state behaviours of granular soils.

Multifaceted roles of extracellular RNAs in different diseases

Extracellular RNAs(exRNAs) are novel circulating factors that can be used as biomarkers in various diseases. Their unique and diverse kinds, as well as their role as biomarkers, make them significant biomarkers. There has been immense work carried out since the discovery of exRNAs in circulation and other biological fluids to catalog and determine whether exRNAs may be utilized as indicators for health and illness. In this review, we aim to understand the current state of exRNAs in relation to various diseases and their potential as biomarkers. We will also review current issues and challenges faced in using exRNAs, with clinical and lab trials, that can be used as viable markers for different diseases.
