A compressible lattice Boltzmann-finite difference method is extended by the phase-field approach into a monolithic scheme to study fluid flow and heat transfer through regular arrangements of solid bodies of circular,elliptical and irregular *** advantage of using the phase-field method is demon-strated both in its simplicity of accounting for flow and thermal boundary conditions at solid surfaces with irregular shapes and in the capability of generating such complex-shaped *** an array of discs,numerical results for the overall solid-to-gas heat transfer rate are validated via experiments on flow through arrays of hot *** thus validated compressible LB-FD-PF hybrid scheme is used to study the dependence of heat transfer on flow and thermal boundary conditions(Reynolds number,temperature difference between the hot solid bodies and the inlet gas),porosity as well as on the shape of solid *** are rationalized in terms of the residence time of the gas close to the solid body and downstream variations of gas velocity and *** for further applications of the proposed methodology are also discussed.

Preparation, characterization, and antibacterial activity of γ-irradiated silver nanoparticles in aqueous gelatin

Colloidal silver nanoparticles （Ag-NPs） were obtained through γ-irradiation of aqueous solutions containing AgNO3 and gelatin as a silver source and stabilizer, respectively. The absorbed dose of γ-irradiation influences the particle diameter of the Ag-NPs, as evidenced from surface plasmon resonance （SPR） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） images. When the γ-irradiation dose was increased （from 2 to 50 kGy）, the mean particle size was decreased continuously as a result of γ-induced Ag-NPs fragmentation. The antibacterial properties of the Ag-NPs were tested against Methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus （MRSA）（Gram-positive） and Pseudomonas aeruginosa （P.a）（Gram-negative） bacteria. This approach reveals that the γ-irradiation-mediated method is a promising simple route for synthesizing highly stable Ag-NPs in aqueous solutions with good antibacterial properties for different applications.

AIM:To evaluate joint effects of Methylentetra-hydrofolate reductase(MTHFR) C677T genotypes,and serum folate/vitamin B12 concentrations on promoter methylation of tumor-associated genes among Iranian colorectal cancer patients. METHODS:We examined the associations between MTHFR C677T genotype,and promoter methylation of P16,hMLH1,and hMSH2 tumor-related genes among151 sporadic colorectal cancer patients. The promoter methylation of tumor-related genes was determined by methylation-specific PCR. Eighty six patients from whom fresh tumor samples were obtained and 81 controls were also examined for serum folate and vitamin B12 concentrations by a commercial radioimmunoassay kit. RESULTS:We found 29.1% of cases had tumors with at least one methylated gene promoter. In case-case comparison,we did not find a significant association between methylation in tumors and any single genotype. However,in comparison to controls with the CC genotype,an increased risk of tumor methylation was associated with the CT genotype(OR = 2.5;95% CI,1.1-5.6) . In case-case comparisons,folate/vitamin B12 levels were positively associated with tumor methylation. Adjusted odds ratios for tumor methylation in cases with high(above median) versus low(below median) serum folate/vitamin B12 levels were 4.9(95% CI,1.4-17.7) ,and 3.9(95% CI,1.1-13.9) ,respectively. The frequency of methylated tumors was significantly higher in high methyl donor than low methyl donor group,especially in those with MTHFR CT(P = 0.01) ,and CT/TT(P = 0.002) genotypes,but not in those with the CC genotype(P = 1.0) . CONCLUSION:We conclude that high concentrations of serum folate/vitamin B12 levels are associated with the risk of promoter methylation in tumor-specific genes,and this relationship is modified by MTHFR C677T genotypes.

The goal of this study was to synthesize nickel oxide nanoparticles(NiO-NPs)by the sol-gel method,which involved the use of salvia macrosiphon Boiss plant extract,Ni(NO3)2·6 H2 O as a capping agent,and a nickel precursor,*** synthesized NiO-NPs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)spectrophotometer,X-ray diffraction(XRD),field electron scanning electron microscopy(FESEM)/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),thermo-gravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis(TGA/DTA)and vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM)***,according to the results of UV-Vis,the gap band of nanoparticles was calculated to be in the range of about 2.9-3.9 *** photocatalytic activity of nanoparticles on methylene blue(MB)degradation was investigated and according to the results,about 80%MB was apparently degraded in the presence of NiO-NPs under UV-A light(11 W)after 5 h in pH^*** have evaluated the cytotoxicity of NiO-NPs on the multiple tumor cells by materials method,and all the utilized concentrations were observed to cause non-toxic effects;therefore,it can be suggested that these samples have the potential of being employed in different fields of medicine.

Lubrication performance of rapeseed oil-based nano-lubricants in parallel tubular channel angular pressing process

Due to the biological risks of using the conventional lubricants,the vegetable oils have been considered ***,to improve the tribological properties of the vegetable oils in various applications like metal forming processes,nanoparticles have been used as *** research evaluated the lubrication performance of the Al2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles dispersed in rapeseed oil during the parallel tubular channel angular pressing (PTCAP) *** experimental PTCAP tests have been fulfilled under three lubrication conditions and the comparison between the PTCAP processed tubes has been performed in terms of the maximum forming force,surface roughness,and *** experimental results indicate that adding the mentioned nanoparticles has caused at least a 50% reduction in the maximum deformation ***,a remarkable decrement in the surface roughness of the formed tubes has been obtained.

Fabrication and Characterization of Alumina/CNTs Nanocomposite Powders, by CCVD Method and Investigation of the Parameter Involved

Ceramics in general and particularly alumina （Al2O3） are important materials in various industries, but the main problem with these materials is related to some of their mechanical properties including low resistance against mechanical shock （hardness-toughness）, which makes them to be so brittle, and possession of high degree of porosity which reduces their strength and gives them fragile characteristics. Researchers report indicates that the presence of the second phase with suitable properties can improve some of the mechanical properties of these materials and optimize their characteristic. Carbon nanotubes with unique physical characteristics such as large aspect ratio, high strength and Young＇s modulus and improved thermal properties could be suitable candidates for this purpose. In this study, the growth of multi wall carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs） on the alumina support as the matrix of the composite has been carried out, using catalytic chemical vapor deposition （CCVD） method in which the iron nanoparticles has been selected as catalyst materials. Ethylene gas is used as feed materials for carbon source and argon as the carrier gas. In order to achieve a more comprehensive results, we have investigated the effects of some fabricating parameters like catalyst particle size, its weight percentage related to support material, alumina and to the some synthesizing temperature gases flow rate. Fabricated ceramics composites samples structures were analyzed using SEM images as well as Raman scattering spectra and X-ray diffraction pattern.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder after liver transplantation: Incidence, long-term survival and impact of serum tacrolimus level

To investigate incidence and survival of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) patients after liver *** cross-sectional survey was conducted among patients who underwent liver transplantation at Shiraz Transplant Center (Shiraz, Iran) between August 2004 and March 2015. Clinical and laboratory data of patients were collected using a data gathering *** were 40 cases of PTLD in the pediatric age group and 13 cases in the adult group. The incidence of PTLD was 6.25% in pediatric patients and 1.18% in adult liver transplant recipients. The post-PTLD survival of patients at 6 mo was 75.1% ± 6%, at 1 year was 68.9% ± 6.5% and at 5 years was 39.2% ± 14.2%. Higher serum tacrolimus level was associated with lower post-PTLD survival in pediatric patients (OR = 1.07, 95%CI: 1.006-1.15, P = 0.032). A serum tacrolimus level over 11.1 ng/mL was predictive of post PTLD survival (sensitivity = 90%, specificity = 52%, area under the curve = 0.738, P = 0.035).CONCLUSIONIncidence of PTLD in our liver transplant patients is comparable to other centers. Transplant physicians may consider adjustment of tacrolimus dose to maintain its serum level below this cutoff point.

Production of γ-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>from Kaolin

The paper reports a process for synthesis of γ-alumina from kaolin. Kaolin was transformed to meta-kaolin by calcination at 800oC for 2h. γ-alumina powder was synthesized through extracting alumina from meta- kaolin via H2SO4 and meta-kaolin reactions and consequently precipitation in ethanol, which led to form the aluminum sulfate. The precipitated aluminum sulfate was dried and calcined at 900 oC for 2h, which resulted the formation of γ-alumina. The structure of γ-alumina was confirmed by XRD and FTIR and the mean particles size of γ-alumina was determined by SEM to be 0.5 - 0.9 μm. The study revealed the kaolin could be promising material for preparation of γ-alumina.

Nanostructured LaFeO3 and substituted La1-xEuxFeO3 (x = 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2) perovskites were synthesized by sol-gel auto-combustion and their activities during the combustion of toluene were evaluated. The structure and physico-chemical properties of the perovskites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and BET surface area analyses. The compounds were crystallized as a perovskite phase with an orthorhombic structure. The mean particle size of the perovskites increased with an increase in europium loading while the specific surface area decreased. Characterization data confirmed that a total insertion of Eu into LaFeO3 occurred at x ≤ 0.15. However, Eu2O3 segregation occurred to some extent especially at x >0.15. The catalytic activity of the catalysts increased substantially with an increase in Eu substitution in the evaluated range.
