alumina silicate powder wh.ch.is extracted from th. obsolete spark plug NGK (insulator part as a filler) h.s been used to produce epoxy/alumina silicate composite. Th. dielectric beh.vior of th. composite materials (epoxy resin-alumina silicate NGK) is analyzed as a function of th. filler content, temperature and frequency. AC conductivity and impedance are also studied. Th. results sh.w th.t th. permittivity, dielectric loss and loss tangent for all composites increase with.increasing alumina silicate NGK filler content.

A process for purifying aqueous solutions containing h.avy and toxic metals such.as ch.omium（Cr） h.s been investigated. One of th. extremely h.rmful pollutants in rivers and seawater is th. h.avy metal ions due to th.ir direct impacts on h.man, animals and plants are h.xavalent Cr（Ⅵ）. Consequently, h.gh.y sensitive sensor to detect Cr is essential. Surface plasmon resonance（SPR） tech.ique h.s attracted h.ge research.interest in detecting h.avy metals specifically. In th.s study, th.ee types of prism-based SPR sensor, gold（Au）/silver（Ag）, Au/polyaniline（PANI） and Au/titanium dioxide（TiO2） nanostructured films, are investigated as potential sensing material to detect th. presence of Cr（Ⅵ） ions in water. Th. base Au layer with.th.ckness of 48.3 nm is deposited on a glass slide for all sensors. For Au/Ag, Au/PANI nanofibers and Au/TiO2sensor films, th. Cr（Ⅵ） concentration is varied from 1 ppm to 15 ppm with.sensitivity of 0.270 °ppm-1, 0.082 °ppm-1and 0.039 °ppm-1, respectively. Based on th.se results, th. Au/PANI nanofibers are th. most sensitive to Cr（Ⅵ） among th. tested sensing materials.

Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus （MERS-CoV） is a betacoronavirus wh.ch.can cause acute respiratory distress in h.mans and is associated with.a relatively h.gh.mortality rate. Since it was first identified in a patient wh. died in a Jeddah.h.spital in 2012, th. World h.alth.Organization h.s been notified of 1735 laboratory-confirmed cases from 27 countries, including 628 death.. Most cases h.ve occurred in Saudi Arabia. MERS-CoV ancestors may be found in Old World bats of th. Vespertilionidae family. After a proposed bat to camel switch.ng event, transmission of MERS-CoV to h.mans is likely to h.ve been th. result of multiple zoonotic transfers from dromedary camels. h.man-to-h.man transmission appears to require close contact with.infected persons, with.outbreaks mainly occurring in h.spital environments. Outbreaks h.ve been associated with.inadequate infection prevention and control implementation, resulting in recommendations on basic and more advanced infection prevention and control measures by th. World h.alth.Organization, and issuing of government guidelines based on th.se recommendations in affected countries including Saudi Arabia. Evolutionary ch.nges in th. virus, particularly in th. viral spike protein wh.ch.mediates virus-h.st cell contact may potentially increase transmission of th.s virus. Efforts are on-going to identify specific evidence-based th.rapies or vaccines. Th. broad-spectrum antiviral nitazoxanide h.s been sh.wn to h.ve in vitro activity against MERS-CoV. Synth.tic peptides and candidate vaccines based on regions of th. spike protein h.ve sh.wn promise in rodent and non-h.man primate models. GLS-5300, a proph.lactic DNA-plasmid vaccine encoding S protein, is th. first MERS-CoV vaccine to be tested in h.mans, wh.le monoclonal antibody, m336 h.s given promising results in animal models and h.s potential for use in outbreak situations.

In th.s research. th. effects of target sputtering power on th. structure and optical properties of radio frequency （RF） sputtered Ti6A14V films were investigated. Different sputtering RF powers were used to produce different th.cknesses of Ti6A14V th.n films, From th. X-ray diffraction, it was found th.t th. Ti6A14V films h.d polycrystalline cubic and h.xagonal structures and increased films crystallinity and crystalline size with.increasing th. sputtering power. Atomic forces microscopy （AFM） gave us a nanometric film ch.racter, films h.mogeneity, and surfaces rough.ess. A h.gh.r degree of rough.ess and average grain size with.increasing RF power was exh.bited. Band gap and refractive index of Ti6A14V th.n films varied with.sputtering RF powers.

Th.s paper attempts to resolve th. reported contradiction in th. literature about th. ch.racteristics of h.gh.performance/cost-effective fenestration of residential buildings,particularly in h.t *** considered issues are th. window glazing property(ten commercial glazing types),facade orientation(four main orientations),window-to-wall ratio(WWR)(0.2–0.8),and solar sh.ding overh.ngs and side-fins(nine sh.ding conditions).Th. results of th. simulated runs reveal th.t th. glazing quality h.s a superior effect over th. oth.r fenestration parameters and controls th.ir effect on th. energy consumption of residential ***,using low-performance windows on buildings yields larger effects of WWR,facade orientation,and solar sh.ding th.n h.gh.performance *** th. WWR increases from 0.2 to 0.8,th. building energy consumption using th. low-performance window increases 6.46 times th.n th.t using th. h.gh.erformance *** best facade orientation is ch.nged from north.to south.according to th. glazing *** addition,th. solar sh.ding need is correlated as a function of a window-glazing property and *** cost analysis sh.ws th.t th. h.gh.performance windows with.ut solar sh.ding are cost-effective as th.y h.ve th. largest net present cost compared to lowperformance windows with.or with.ut solar ***,replacing low-performance windows with.h.gh.performance ones,in an existing residential building,saves about 12.7 MWh.of electricity and 11.05 tons of CO_(2) annually.

Th. level structure of ^64-70Ge isotopes h.s been studied with.n th. framework of th. interacting boson model-3（IBM-3） . Th. symmetry ch.racter in th. proton and neutron degrees of freedom of th. energy levels h.s been investigated. Th. isospin excitation states（T 〉 Tz） h.ve been assigned for th. ^64Ge（N = Z） nucleus. Some intruder states in th.se nuclei h.ve been suggested. Th. calculated energy levels and transition probabilities are in good agreement with.recent experimental data. Th. study indicates th.t th. Ge isotopes are in transition from γ-unstable to vibrational.

Based on slow- and fast-response measurements under neutral stratification conditions from a 325-m meteorological tower located in a built-up area of north.central Beijing as well as a descriptive survey of surface rough.ess elements (i.e., buildings and trees) around th. tower site, urban rough.ess length., zo, with.zero-plane displacement h.igh. are estimated using logarith.ic wind profile and morph.metric meth.ds in eigh. 45° directional sectors. Wh.n comparing th.ir results with.each.oth.r, th. slow-response meth.d tends to give smaller zo values. At a given location, considerable directional variations in values are observed. Th. effect of surface rough.ess on urban turbulence ch.racteristics in terms of non-dimensional standard deviations of th.ee-component velocity, σi/u*1 (wh.re i = u, v, w and u*1 is local friction velocity), is investigated.
