Prognostic significance of peritoneal metastasis from colorectal cancer treated with first-line triplet chemotherapy

BACKGROUND Peritoneal metastasis from colorectal cancer(CRC)carries a poor prognosis in most *** majority of those studies used either a single-agent or doublet chemotherapy regimen in the first-line *** To investigate the prognostic significance of peritoneal metastasis in a cohort of patients treated with triplet chemotherapy in the first-line *** We retrospectively evaluated progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)in 51 patients with metastatic CRC treated in a prospective clinical trial with capecitabine,oxaliplatin,irinotecan,and bevacizumab in the first-line setting according to the presence and absence of peritoneal ***,univariate and multivariate analyses for PFS and OS were performed to assess the prognostic significance of peritoneal metastasis at the multivariate *** Fifty-one patients were treated with the above triplet *** had peritoneal *** patient characteristics of both groups showed a significant difference in the sidedness of the primary tumor(left-sided primary tumor in 60%of the peritoneal group vs 86%in the nonperitoneal group,P=0.03)and the presence of liver metastasis(40%for the peritoneal group vs 75%for the nonperitoneal group,P=0.01).Univariate analysis for PFS showed a statistically significant difference for age less than 65 years(P=0.034),presence of liver metastasis(P=0.046),lung metastasis(P=0.011),and those who underwent metastasectomy(P=0.001).Only liver metastasis and metastasectomy were statistically significant for OS,with P values of 0.001 and 0.002,*** analysis showed that age(less than 65 years)and metastasectomy were statistically significant for PFS,with P values of 0.002 and 0.001,*** the other hand,the absence of liver metastasis and metastasectomy were statistically significant for OS,with P values of 0.003 and 0.005,*** Peritoneal metastasis in patients with metastatic CRC tre

h-M Bearing Capacity of A Modified Suction Caisson Determined by Using Load-/Displacement-Controlled Methods

This paper presents a series of monotonically combined lateral loading tests to investigate the bearing capacity of the MSCs （modified suction caissons） in the saturated marine fine sand. The lateral loads were applied under load- and displacement-controlled methods at the loading eccentricity ratios of 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5. Results show that, in the displacement-controlled test, the deflection-softening behavior of load-deflection curves for MSCs was observed, and the softening degree of the load-deflection response increased with the increasing external skirt length or the decreasing loading eccentricity. It was also found that the rotation center of the MSC at failure determined by the load-controlled method is slightly lower than that by the displacement-controlled method. The calculated MSC capacity based on the rotation center position in serviceability limit state is relatively conservative, compared with the calculated capacity based on the rotation center position in the ultimate limit state. In the limit state, the passive earth pressures opposite the loading direction under load- and displacement-controlled methods decrease by 46% and 74% corresponding to peak values, respectively; however, the passive earth pressures in the loading direction at failure only decrease by approximately 3% and 7%, compared with their peak values.

Sensing the heavy water concentration in an h_(2)O-D_(2)O mixture by solid-solid phononic crystals

A new method based on phononic crystals is presented to detect the concentration of heavy water(D_(2)O)in an h_(2)O-D_(2)O *** have been obtained and analyzed in the concentration range of 0%-10%and 90%-100%D_(2)O.A proposed structure of tungsten scatterers in an aluminum host is *** order to detect the target material,a cavity region is considered as a sound wave resonator in which the target material with different concentrations of D_(2)O is *** changing the concentration of D_(2)O in the h_(2)O-D_(2)O mixture,the resonance frequency undergoes a frequency *** 1%change in D_(2)O concentration in the h_(2)O-D_(2)O mixture causes a frequency change of about 120 *** finite element method is used as the numerical method to calculate and analyze the natural frequencies and transmission spectra of the proposed *** performance evaluation index shows a high Q factor up to 1475758 and a high sensitivity up to 13075,which are acceptable values for sensing *** other figures of merit related to the detection performance also indicate high-quality performance of the designed sensor.

Implementation of electrolyte CPA EoS to model solubility of CO2 and CO2+ h2S mixtures in aqueous MDEA solutions

The electrolyte version of SRK plus association equation of state(e SRK-CPA Eo S) was employed to correlate CO2 solubility in MDEA aqueous solutions. The applied model comprises the classic form of CPA Eo S including SRK Eo S plus Wertheim association term in addition to MSA theory and Born terms so that the two last terms are responsible for the long-range interactions. A reaction-containing bubble pressure computation technique comprising two nested loops was utilized to model the systems. The internal loop, calculates the liquid phase concentrations via reaction, mass and charge balance equation solving, whereas, the vapor phase concentrations will be obtained in the external one. 470 experimental data were used to correlate binary subsystems and the h2O + MDEA + CO2 ternary system. Since, there not exist any binary VLE data for MDEA + CO2 subsystem, two fitting scenarios were applied. At the first scenario, the binary interaction parameter was assumed equal to zero, while, in second approach the parameter was obtained through ternary system correlation. Both scenarios show very good accuracy in that the Absolute Average Deviation percentages(AAD) obtained were 19.12% and 18.85%, respectively. Also, to show the efficiency of the used model, a comparison between our results and those of the best-known models was ***, having model parameters for h2S solubility from our previous work [A. Afsharpour, Petroleum Science and Technology 35(3)(2017) 292-298], simultaneous solubility of CO2+ h2S mixtures in MDEA solutions was predicted using the e SRK-CPA Eo S with no new optimizable parameters. As the results show,the applied model has a good performance for correlation and prediction of acid gas solubility in a wide range of pressures, temperatures, acid gas loadings, and MDEA concentrations.

Teaching the User By Learning From the User:Personalizing Movement Control in Physical human-robot Interaction

This paper proposes a novel approach for physical human-robot interactions(phRI), where a robot provides guidance forces to a user based on the user performance. This framework tunes the forces in regards to behavior of each user in coping with different tasks, where lower performance results in higher intervention from the robot. This personalized physical human-robot interaction(p2hRI) method incorporates adaptive modeling of the interaction between the human and the robot as well as learning from demonstration(LfD) techniques to adapt to the users' performance. This approach is based on model predictive control where the system optimizes the rendered forces by predicting the performance of the user. Moreover, continuous learning of the user behavior is added so that the models and personalized considerations are updated based on the change of user performance over time. Applying this framework to a field such as haptic guidance for skill improvement, allows a more personalized learning experience where the interaction between the robot as the intelligent tutor and the student as the user,is better adjusted based on the skill level of the individual and their gradual improvement. The results suggest that the precision of the model of the interaction is improved using this proposed method,and the addition of the considered personalized factors to a more adaptive strategy for rendering of guidance forces.

Robust h_∞ control for uncertain Markovian jump systems with mixed delays

We scrutinize the problem of robust h∞control for a class of Markovian jump uncertain systems with interval timevarying and distributed delays. The Markovian jumping parameters are modeled as a continuous-time finite-state Markov chain. The main aim is to design a delay-dependent robust h∞control synthesis which ensures the mean-square asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point. By constructing a suitable Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional（LKF）, sufficient conditions for delay-dependent robust h∞control criteria are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities（LMIs）. The advantage of the proposed method is illustrated by numerical examples. The results are also compared with the existing results to show the less conservativeness.

Dynamic stress concentration in an infinitely long cylindrical cavity due to a point spherical source embedded within a fluid-saturated poroelastic formation of infinite extent

The effects of a harmonically exciting monopole source on an infinitely long cylindrical cavity embedded entirely within a fluid-saturated poroelastic formation of infinite extent are examined theoretically. It is assumed that the source is located outside the cavity at a specified distance from the borehole axis. The magnitudes of the hoop and radial stresses beside the pore pressures exerted on the interface and inside the porous medium surrounding the borehole are calculated and discussed. Biot's poroelastic modeling along with three types of boundary conditions for the cylindrical interface including the ideal fluid, empty borehole, and rigid inclusion with a hard boundary is employed for the analysis. Utilizing a proper translational addition theorem for expressing the incident spherical wave in terms of cylindrical wave expansions, the proposed boundary conditions at the interface are satisfied. Stresses are formulated by means of wave potential functions in a three-dimensional(3D) manner. The effects of the frequency and the radial distance between the source and borehole on the induced stresses are examined for the first cylindrical modes over frequency spectra. Two permeability conditions for the interface and three types of soils for the porous formation are considered throughout the analysis. To give an overall outline of the study, a numerical example is presented. The results clearly indicate that the distance is a key parameter and has considerable effects on the induced stress values. In addition, the interface permeability condition and soil characteristics play an important role in determining the dynamic response of the borehole. Finally,the obtained results are compared with the relevant analyses existing in the literature for some limit cases, and good agreement is achieved.

The hydro-abrasive erosion wear behavior of duplex-treated surfaces of AISI h13 tool steel

The influence of duplex surface treatments consisting of a DC-pulsed plasma nitriding process and subsequent coatings of CrN and TiAlN deposited by physical vapor deposition(PVD)on AISI h13 tool steel was studied in this *** treated samples were characterized using metallographic techniques,SEM,EDS,and microhardness ***-abrasive erosion wear tests were performed in a specifically designed wear tester in which the samples were rotated in a wear tank containing a mixture of distilled water and ceramic abrasive chips with a fixed rotational *** wear rates caused by the abrasive particle impacts were assessed based on accumulated weight loss *** worn surfaces were also characterized using optical microscopy,SEM,and *** measurements indicated a significant increase in the surface hardness of the duplex-treated *** surfaces of the samples with the TiAlN coating were approximately 15 times harder than that of the untreated samples and 3 times that of the plasma nitrided ***-abrasive erosion wear results showed that the duplex surface treatments,especially the CrN coating,displayed the highest erosion wear resistance.
