Robust and High Accuracy Algorithm for Detection of Pupil Images

Recently,many researchers have tried to develop a robust,fast,and accurate *** algorithm is for eye-tracking and detecting pupil position in many applications such as head-mounted eye tracking,gaze-based human-computer interaction,medical applications(such as deaf and diabetes patients),and attention *** real-world conditions challenge the eye appearance,such as illumination,reflections,and *** the other hand,individual differences in eye physiology and other sources of noise,such as contact lenses or *** present work introduces a robust pupil detection algorithm with and higher accuracy than the previous attempts for real-time analytics *** proposed circular hough transform with morphing canny edge detection for Pupillometery(CHMCEP)algorithm can detect even the blurred or noisy images by using different filtering methods in the pre-processing or start phase to remove the blur and noise and finally the second filtering process before the circular Hough transform for the center fitting to make sure better *** performance of the proposed CHMCEP algorithm was tested against recent pupil detection *** and results show that the proposed CHMCEP algorithm achieved detection rates of 87.11,78.54,58,and 78 according to´Swirski,ExCuSe,else,and labeled pupils in the wild(LPW)data sets,*** results show that the proposed approach performs better than the other pupil detection methods by a large margin by providing exact and robust pupil positions on challenging ordinary eye pictures.

Seismic hazard assessment of Western Coastal Province of Saudi Arabia:deterministic approach

Seismic hazard assessment is carried out by utilizing deterministic approach to evaluate the maximum expected earthquake ground motions along the Western Coastal Province of Saudi Arabia. The analysis is accomplished by incorporating seismotectonic source model, determination of earthquake magnitude （Mmax）, set of appropriate ground motion predictive equations （GMPE）, and logic tree sequence. The logic tree sequence is built up to assign weight to ground motion scaling relationships. Contour maps of ground acceleration are generated at different spectral periods. These maps show that the largest ground motion values are emerged in northern and southern regions of the western coastal province in Saudi Arabia in comparison with the central region.

Improving landscape Characteristics in Port Said’s el Sallam Garden via Observational and Space Syntax Analysis

This paper provides a comprehensive examination of el Sallam Garden in Port Said City,concentrating on its landscape characteristics and potential for design *** study looks at how space syntax can be used to assess the impact of a tree planting design’s spatial configuration on an urban park’s visual *** play an important role in determining the spatial characteristics of an outdoor *** to space syntax theory,an urban area is a collection of connected spaces that can be represented by a matrix of quantitative properties known as syntactic *** simulations can be used to measure the quantitative properties of these *** study uses space syntax techniques to assess how tree configurations and garden area which can affect the social structures of small-scale gardens in Port *** also looks at how these techniques can be used to predict the social structures of four garden zones in el Sallam *** study includes an observational and space syntax study through comparative analysis of four garden zones in el Sallam *** results of the study show that the area and planting configurations of the garden had a significant effect on the syntactic social and visual measures of the urban *** conclusions and recommendations can be a useful tool for landscape architects,urban planners,and legislators who want to enhance public areas and encourage social interaction in urban settings.

Modeling and Simulation for a Microstructure Silicon Concentrated Force Sensor

Based on the sensing mechanism of microsensor, a simulation model of a practical silicon beam resonator attached to an E-type round diaphragm and used for measuring concentrated force is established. The relationship between the basic natural frequency of the beam resonator and the concentrated force is calculated, analyzed and investigated. As a microsensor FEM is used to study some important simulation results on the vibration features of the beam resonators. Based on the differential output signals, a set of optimum parameters of the proposed sensing unit is determined.

Study of the duodenal contractile activity during antral contractions

AIM： To investigate the hypothesis that duodenal bulb （DB） inhibition on pyloric antrum （PA） contraction is reflex. METHODS： Balloon （condom）-tipped tube was introduced into 1^st duodenum （DD） and a manometric tube into each of PA and DD. Duodenal and antral pressure response to duodenal and then PA balloon distension with saline was recorded. These tests were repeated after separate anesthetization of DD and PA. RESULTS： Two and 4 mL of 1^st DD balloon distension produced no pressure changes in DD or PA （10.7±1.2 vs 9.8±1.2, 11.2±1.2 vs 11.3±1.2 on H20 respectively, P〉0.05）. Six mL distension effected 1^st DD pressure rise （30.6±3.4 cm H20, P 〈0.01） and PA pressure decrease （6.2±1.4 cm H20, P〈0.05）; no response in 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th DD. There was no difference between 6, 8, and 10 mL distensions. Ten mL PA distension produced no PA or 1^st DD pressure changes （P〉 0.05）. Twenty mL distension increased PA pressure （92.4 4±10.7 cm H20, P〈0.01） and decreased 1^st DD pressure （1.6±0.3 cm H20, P〈0.01）; 30, 40, and 50 mL distension produced the same effect as the 20 mL distension （P 〉 0.05）. PA or DD distension after separate anesthetization produced no significant pressure changes in PA or DD. CONCLUSION： Large volume DD distension produced DD pressure rise denoting DD contraction and PA pressure decline denoting PA relaxation. PA relaxation upon DD contraction is postulated to be mediated through a reflex which we call duodeno-antral reflex. Meanwhile, PA distension effected DD relaxation which we suggest to be reflex and termed antro-duodenal reflex. It is suggested that these 2 reflexes, could act as investigative tools in diagnosis of gastroduodenal motility disorders.

Performance analysis of space-shift keying over negative-exponential and log-normal FSO channels

The average bit-error rate （ABER） performance of free-space optical （FSO） communication links is investigated for space-shift keying （SSK） over log-normal and negative-exponential atmospheric turbulence channels. SSK is compared with repetition codes and a single-input single-output system using multiple pulse amplitude mod- ulations. Simulation results show that the signal-to-noise ratio gain of SSK largely increases with greater spectral efficiencies and/or higher turbulence effects. A tight bound for ABER is derived based on an exact moment generation function （MGF） for negative-exponential channel and an approximate MGF for log-normal channel. Finally, extensive Monte Carlo simulations are run to validate the analytical analysis.

Quantum dots protect against MPP＋-induced neurotoxicity in a cell model of Parkinson＇s disease through autophagy induction

Autophagy is a basic cellular process that decomposes damaged organelles and aberrant proteins. Dysregulation of autophagy is implicated in pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson's disease(PD). Pharmacological compounds that stimulate autophagy can provide neuroprotection in models of PD. Nanoparticles have emerged as regulators of autophagy and have been tested in adjuvant therapy for diseases. In this present study, we explore the effects of quantum dots(QDs) that can induce autophagy in a cellular model of Parkinson's disease. Cd Te/Cd S/Zn S QDs protect differentiated rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells from MPP+-induced cell damage, including reduced viability, apoptosis and accumulation of α-Synuclein, a characteristic protein of PD. The protective function of QDs is autophagy-dependent. In addition, we investigate the interaction between quantum dots and autophagic pathways and identify beclin1 as an essential factor for QDs-induced autophagy. Our results reveal new promise of QDs in the theranostic of neurodegenerative diseases.

Waterlogging in the New Reclaimed Areas Northeast el Fayoum, Western Desert, Egypt, Reasons and Solutions

The waterlogging in the new reclaimed areas has become a major concern in the area Northeast el Fayoum, Western Desert, Egypt. It is not only endangering the structures and properties but also causing major environmental problem affecting the health of the area, habitats, and the biotic of the land community, as well as the deteriorating of Egypt’s Pharaonic monuments (el Lahun and Hawarah pyramids). Both the daily seepage from excess irrigation water and the presence of impervious clay or limestone beds at shallow depths may represent the main contributor of ground-water rising in the shallow aquifer. This paper investigates the interplay of the hydrogeological characteristics, soil properties and recent land reclamation projects on the distribution of waterlogging and salinization within the study area. The field observations show that new reclaimed areas have been recently cultivated in distant areas from the old agricultural land. These new cultivations have developed widespread waterlogging, soil salinization and deterioration of Egypt’s Pharaonic monuments as a result of rising groundwater related problems. In this paper, the data used come from database of drillings for eleven observation wells distributed inside the whole area to measure periodic water levels. The soil litho-units are mainly composed of coarse sand, sandy clay, silt and fractured limestone underlined by impervious clay or limestone, thus limiting the downward percolation of excess irrigation water and therefore develops waterlogging. The drainage networks and suitable irrigation methods have to be considered when planning for a new cultivation in dry land to better control waterlogging and salinization hazard. It is highly recommended in this research that newly small and deep cut drainage canals network should be constructed and connected to the master drainage canal to dewater the excess irrigation water and to prevent the waterlogging in the concerned area.

Impact of cirrhosis on surgical outcome after pancreaticoduodenectomy

AIM:To elucidate surgical outcomes of pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)in patients with liver ***:We studied retrospectively all patients who underwent PD in our centre between January 2002and December *** A comprised patients with cirrhotic livers,and Group B comprised patients with non-cirrhotic *** cirrhotic patients had ChildPugh classes A and B(patient’s score less than 8).Preoperative demographic data,intra-operative data and postoperative details were *** primary outcome measure was hospital mortality *** outcomes analysed included duration of the operation,postoperative hospital stay,postoperative morbidity and survival ***:Only 67/442 patients(15.2%)had cirrhotic *** blood loss and blood transfusion were significantly higher in group A(P=0.0001).The mean surgical time in group A was significantly longer than that in group B(P=0.0001).Wound complications(P=0.02),internal haemorrhage(P=0.05),pancreatic fistula(P=0.02)and hospital mortality(P=0.0001)were significantly higher in the cirrhotic *** stay was significantly longer in group A(P=0.03).The median survival was 19 mo in group A and 24 mo in group *** hypertension(PHT)was present in 16/67 cases of cirrhosis(23.9%).The intraoperative blood loss and blood transfusion were significantly higher in patients with PHT(P=0.001).Postoperative morbidity(0.07)and hospital mortality(P=0.007)were higher in cirrhotic patients with ***:Patients with periampullary tumours and well-compensated chronic liver disease should be routinely considered for PD at high volume centres with available expertise to manage liver *** is associated with an increased risk of postoperative morbidity in patients with liver cirrhosis;therefore,it is only recommended in patients with Child A cirrhosis without portal hypertension.
