Experimental Acoustic determination of the Void Fraction in Two-Phase Flow in Horizontal Pipelines

In multi-phase flows, the phases can flow and arranged in different spatial configurations in the pipe, which called flow patterns. This type of flow is found in the oil, chemical and nuclear industries. For example, in the production and transport of oil and gas, the identification of the flow patterns are essential for answering those questions which are related to the economic return of the field, such as, measuring the volumetric flow, determining the pressure drop along the flow lines, production management and supervision. In offshore production, these factors are very important. This paper presents a new method for measuring the void fraction in horizontal pipelines, taking the air as gas in water-air two-phase flow. Through acoustic analysis of the frequency response of the pipe, the method gets the parameters to changes in runoff regime, in an experimental arrangement constructed on a small scale. The main advantages are the non-intrusive characteristic and easy to implement. The paper is composed of a qualitative experimental evaluation and transducers （microphone） which are used to analyze variations in the response accompanying variations in void and flow pattern changes. Changes are imposed and controlled by a two-phase flow experimental simulation rig, including a measurement cell constituted of an external casing that can isolate the measurement from the environmental background noise fitted with acoustic pressure transducers radially arranged, and the impact of a monitored excitation mechanism. The signals which captured by the microphones are processed and analyzed by checking their frequency contents changes according to the amount of air in the mixture.

Monthly and seasonal streamflow forecasting of large dryland catchments in Brazil

Ureteral stents play a fundamental role in modern time urology. However, following the deployment, stent-related symptoms are frequent and affect patient health and quality of life. Using biodegradable metals as ureteral stent materials have emerged as a promising strategy, mainly due to the improved radial force and slower degradation rate expected. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize different biodegradable metals in urinary tract environment to understand their propensity for future utilization as base materials for ureteral stents. The corrosion of 5 Mg alloys - AZ31, Mg-1Zn, Mg-1Y, pure Mg, and Mg-4Ag - under simulated urinary tract conditions was accessed. The corrosion layer of the different alloys presented common elements, such as Mg(OH)_(2), MgO, and phosphate-containing products, but slight variations in their chemical compositions were detected. The corrosion rate of the different metals varied, which was expected given the differences in the corrosion layers. On top of this, the findings of this study highlighted the significant differences in the samples' corrosion and corrosion layers when in stagnant and flowing conditions. With the results of this study, we concluded that Mg-1Zn and Mg-4Ag presented a higher propensity for localized corrosion, probably due to a less protective corrosion layer;Mg-4Ag corroded faster than all the other four alloys,and Mg-1Y stood out due to its distinct corrosion pattern, that showed to be more homogeneous than all the other four samples, making this one more attractive for the future studies on biodegradable metals.

This paper describes the major environmental aspects related to the cultivation of rice. Rice is one of the most important agricultural products and it is cultivated in almost all countries in the world. Its production requires usually large flooded areas. Under these conditions, many greenhouse gases are generated, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and its derivatives. Cultivation of rice is responsible by the release of relevant amounts of these gases and contributes decisively to global warming. In this sense, the major points described here are general environmental aspects, the mechanisms of production of greenhouse gases, bioremediation, mitigation using other techniques and possible improvements of the cultivation by fertilizers and chemicals.

Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant,antibacterial and bacterial cell agglutination activities of the hexane(Hex) and 70%ethanol(70%EtOH) extracts of two species of red seaweeds Pterocladiella capillacea(***) and Osmundaria ***:In vitro antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging assay,ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay,ferrous ion chelating assay,β-carotene bleaching assay and total phenolic content *** activity was tested using the method of disc diffusion on Mueller-Hinton *** ability of algal extracts to agglutinate bacterial cells was also ***:The 70%EtOH extract of the two algae showed the highest values of total phenolic content compared to the Hex *** results of DPPH for both extracts(Hex,70%EtOH) of Osmundaria obtusiloba(43.46%and 99.47%) were higher than those of ***(33.04%and 40.81%) at a concentration of 1 000 μg/*** for the ferrous ion chelating,there was an opposite behavior,extracts of *** had a higher *** extracts showed a low ferric-reducing antioxidant power,with optical density ranging from0.054 to *** activities of all extracts evaluated for β-carotene bleaching were above 40%.There was no antibacterial activity against bacterial strains ***,the extracts of both species were able to agglutinate bacterial Gram positive cells of Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative cells of Escherichia coli,multidrug-resistant Salmonella and Vibrio *** This is the first report of the interaction between these algal extracts,rich in natural compounds with antioxidant potential,and Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial cells.

despite improvements in adjuvant therapies for gastric cancer in recent years, the disease is characterized by high recurrence rates and a dismal prognosis. The major improvement in the treatment of recurrent or metastatic gastric cancer in recent years has been the incorporation of trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody that inhibits human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2) heterodimerization, after the demonstrated predictive value of the overexpression and/or amplification of this receptor. Beyond HER2, other genetic abnormalities have been identified, and these mutations may be targetable by tyrosine kinase inhibitors or monoclonal antibodies. The demonstration of four distinct molecular subtypes of gastric cancer by the Cancer Genome Atlas study highlight the enormous heterogeneity of the disease and its complex interplay between genetic and epigenetic alterations and provide a roadmap to implement genome-guided personalized therapy in gastric cancer. In the present review, we aim to discuss, from a clinical point of view, the genomic landscape of gastric cancer described in recent studies, the therapeutic insights derived from these findings, and the clinical trials that have been conducted and those in progress that take into account tailored therapies for gastric cancer.

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the maxillary sinus with orbital involvement in a pediatric patient:Case report

This report presents a case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma(e RMS) located in the left maxillary sinus and invading the orbital cavity in a ten-year-old male patient who was treated at a referral *** images provided from the computed tomography showed a heterogeneous mass with soft-tissue density,occupying part of the left half of the face inside the maxillary sinus,and infiltrating and destroying the bone structure of the maxillary sinus,left orbit,ethmoidal cells,nasal cavity,and sphenoid *** analysis of the histological sections revealed an undifferentiated malignant neoplasm infiltrating the skeletal muscle *** immunohistochemical analysis was positive for the antigens:MyoD 1,myogenin,desmin,and Ki67(100% positivity in neoplastic cells),allowing the identification of the tumour as an eR *** treatment protocol included initial chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and finally *** total time of the treatment was nine months,and in 18-mo of follow-up period did not show no local recurrences and a lack of visual impairment.

Introduction: Due to the growth of the elderly population, there is a notable lack of preparation among family members and society to face the challenges of this new reality, resulting in an increasing demand for homes for the aged (HA). It is necessary to understand how the impairment of physical health, mental health and the level of depression can affect the functional capacity of the institutionalized elderly who live in homes for the aged. Objective: To describe the correlation between depression and functionality of elderly people who live in homes for the aged. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive study with 70 elderly people of both sexes, aged 60 years or older, who live in HA in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Result: It was verified that the female gender was predominant in the HA consulted. The majority of elderly live in HA voluntarily 48.6% and that 41.43% did not complete elementary school. The majority of the elderly 81.43% had the ability to perform basic activities of daily living and the elderly 52.86% had normal psychological pictures. The worsening of the depressive picture is associated with the worse functioning of elderly who live in HA (p Conclusion: depression is a factor that is associated with the functional capacity of the institutionalized elderly. The worse the functional level of the institutionalized elderly, the greater the chances of presenting a depressive state.
