Revisiting taxonomy,morphological evolution,and fossil calibration strategies in Chloranthaceae

Chloranthaceae is one of the earliest diverging angiosperm families and is comprised of approximately 75 species in four genera (Chloranthus,Sarcandra,Ascarina,and Hedyosmum).This family has received considerable attention because of its seemingly primitive morphology,disjunct tropical distribution in Asia and America,and extensive fossil record from the Early *** the present study,we reconstructed the phylogeny of Chloran- thaceae based on a combined dataset of three plastid DNA regions and 56 *** then estimated divergence times in the family using two relaxed molecular clock methods (BEAST and penalized likelihood).We focused on testing the influence of fossil taxa in calibrating the molecular phylogeny,and on assessing the current taxonomy of the family in light of the phylogenetic *** results indicate that most intrageneric divisions within Asca-rina and Hedyosmum are not *** results from the dating analysis suggest that the Hedyosmum-like fossil Asteropollis represents a stem lineage of Hedyosmum,as has been suggested previously from morphological *** contrast,our results indicate that the Chloranthus-like fossil Chloranthistemon,previously suggested on morphological grounds to be a stem relative of Chloranthus,may,instead,belong to the branch leading to the clade Chloranthus + *** median crown ages of Chloranthus,Sarcandra,Ascarina,and Hedyosmum estimated in the BEAST analysis were 26.3,9.5,31.0 and 45.8 million years ago (Ma),respectively,whereas the divergence between Chloranthus and Sarcandra,the splitting of Ascarina with the former two genera,and Hedyos- mum separating from the three genera were estimated to 63.8,95.7 and 111.1 *** present study sheds further light on the temporal evolution of Chloranthaceae and exemplifies how molecular dating analyses may be used to explore alternative phylogenetic placements of fossil taxa.

Oct4 is a key component of the pluripotency regulatory network,and its reciprocal interaction with Cdx2 has been shown to be a determinant of either the self-renewal of embryonic stem cells(ESCs)or their differentiation into ***4 of maternal origin is postulated to play critical role in defining totipotency and inducing pluripotency during embryonic ***,the genetic elimination of maternal Oct4 using a Cre-lox approach in mouse revealed that the establishment of totipotency in maternal Oct4–depleted embryos was not affected,and that these embryos could complete full-term development without any obvious *** results indicate that Oct4 is not essential for the initiation of pluripotency,in contrast to its critical role in maintaining *** conclusion is further supported by the formation of Oct4-GFP–and Nanog-expressing inner cell masses(ICMs)in embryos with complete inactivation of both maternal and zygotic Oct4 expression and the reprogramming of fibroblasts into fully pluripotent cells by Oct4-deficient oocytes.

Prediction of design parameters of pneumatic cleaners with MARS method

One of the cleaning methods for agricultural materials is based on aerodynamic *** cleaners are developed on this *** purpose of this study is to predict the parameters such as fan angle,air velocity,and tunnel length,which are used in the design of pneumatic cleaners,through the multivariate adaptive regression splines(MARS)*** parameters have been estimated using the MARS method in order to use pneumatic cleaners under optimum conditions and adapt them to automation *** cleaners have a collection box which was installed at the outlet of the *** different product collection boxes of 400 mm(defined as the first box)and 800 mm(defined as the second box)from the storage outlet section were *** the results obtained,it was observed that the first box R2 was *** looking at the cross validation,it was observed that the results of the first box were more *** this study,MARS equations were used to obtain dependent variables at desired *** these equations,independent variables have been demonstrated to be *** the application results obtained,cleaning efficiency values were obtained in a wide *** cleaning efficiency values reached up to 100%,the loss rate was found to be very *** variables have been made identifiable to reduce the loss *** highest and feasible of these values were determined by MARS as 41°fan angle and 15 m/s air velocity in order to be able to apply at 97%CE and 1%LR determined for the first *** MARS method allows for the use of more dependent and independent *** equations were obtained as a result of statistical *** precise values can be obtained with these *** will contribute to the design of the parameters of the machine manufactured,such as speed,angle,and feeding amount.

Do algae blooms dilute the risk of trematode infections in threespine sticklebacks？

Human-induced growth of macro-algae is often assumed to increase trematode infections in fishes by increasing the abtmdanee and condition of the parasite＇s intermediate host - snails - as this can boost the release of trematode larvae, cercariae, from the intermediate hosts. However, macro-algae can also impose barriers to the transmission of cercariae and reduce infections. We investigated whether an increased growth of filamentous algae affects the transmission of Diplostomum pseudospathaceum cercariae to the threespine stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus, a common fish in eutrophied shallow waters. We exposed stickle- backs to trematode cercariae in the absence and presence of artificial filamentous algae, and recorded effects on the proportion of sticklebacks infected and the number of encysted metacercariae per fish. No significant effect of artificial algae on cercariae transmission was detected. However, the body size and the sex of the sticklebacks were strongly correlated with the number of encysted metacercariae per infected fish, with females and larger individuals being more infected. We discuss different factors that could have caused the difference in parasite transmission, including sex-related differences in body size and behaviour of sticklebacks .

Estimation of Throughfall Erosivity in a Highly Diverse Forest Ecosystem Using Sand-Filled Splash Cups

Sand-fflled splash cups were used to study the erosive power of rainfall and throughfall in the humid subtropics of Southeast China. The splash cup measurements yielded precise and reproducible results under both open field conditions and forest vegetation. The splash cups were exposed to specific forest stands of different ages and to selected species （Schima superba, Castanopsis eyrei, Daphniphyllum oldhamii, Lithocarpus glaber） in the Gutianshan （古田山） National Nature Reserve （GNNR）. The results of the measurements under forest vegetation show that the erosive power of throughfall drops to be 2.59 times higher compared to the open field. This accentuates the importance of shrub, herb and litter layers in forest ecosystems to protect the soil against erosion. Coalescing drops from leaves and branches （drips） are responsible for this notable gain in erosive power. Moreover, differences in sandloss between the investigated tree species （deciduous, evergreen） revealed that the erosion potential and the spatial heterogeneity of throughfall are species-specific. This highlights the importance of selecting specific species for afforestation projects considering the prevention of soil erosion.

Hydrocarbons in particulate samples from wildfire events in central Portugal in summer 2010

In summer 2010, twenty eight （14 PM=2.5 samples plus 14 samples PM2.5-10） smoke samples were collected during wildfires that occurred in central Portugal. A portable high-volume sampler was used to perform the sampling, on quartz fibre filters of coarse （PM=2.5-10） and fine （PM2.5） smoke samples. The carbonaceous content （elemental and organic carbon） of particulate matter was analysed by a thermal-optical technique. Subsequently, the particulate samples were solvent extracted and fractionated by vacuum flash chromatog- raphy into three different classes of organic compounds （aliphatics, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs） and carbonyl compounds）. The organic speciation was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS）. Emissions were dominated by the fine particles, which represented around 92% of the PM10. A clear predominance of carbonaceous constituents was observed, with organic to elemental carbon （OC/EC） ratios ranging between 1.69 and 245 in both size fractions. The isoprenoid ketone 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone, a tracer for secondary organic aerosol formation, was one of the dominant constituents in both fine and coarse particles. Retene was the most abundant compound in all samples. Good correlations were obtained between OC and both aliphatic and PAH compounds. Pyrogenic processes, thermal release of biogenic com- pounds and secondary processing accounted for 97% of the apportioned PM2.5 levels.

An Efficient and Reliable Multicasting for Smart Cities

The Internet of thing(IoT)is a growing concept for smart cities,and it is compulsory to communicate data between different networks and *** the IoT,communication should be rapid with less delay and *** this purpose,flooding is used for reliable data communication in a smart cities concept but at the cost of higher overhead,energy consumption and packet drop *** paper aims to increase the efficiency in term of overhead and reliability in term of delay by using multicasting and unicasting instead of flooding during packet forwarding in a smart city using the IoT *** this paper,multicasting and unicasting is used for IoT in smart cities within a receiver-initiated mesh-based topology to disseminate the data to the cluster *** cities networks are divided into cluster head,and each cluster head or core node will be responsible for transferring data to the desired *** protocol is a novel approach according to the best of our knowledge,and it proves to be very useful due to its efficiency and reliability in smart cities concept because IoT is a collection of devices and having a similar interest for transmission of *** results are implemented in Network simulator 2(NS-2).The result shows that the proposed protocol shows performance in overhead,throughput,packet drop,delay and energy consumption as compared to benchmark schemes.
