Evolution of heart transplant donor characteristics in the 21st century: A United States single center’s experience

Despite a record setting number of heart transplants performed annually,the national donor shortage continues to plague transplant teams across the United *** we describe the barriers to adaptation of numerous“non-traditional”orthotopic heart transplant donor characteristics including donors with hepatitis C virus,those meeting criteria for donation after cardiac death,donors with coronavirus disease 19 infection,donors with the human immunodeficiency virus,and grafts with left ventricular systolic *** center’s objective was to increase our transplant volume by expanding our donor pool from“traditional”donors to these“non-traditional”*** detail how medical advances such as certain laboratory studies,pharmacologic interventions,and organ care systems have allowed our center to expand the donor pool thereby increasing transplantation volume without adverse effects on outcomes.

bactrocera tryoni and bactrocera neohumeralis are morphologically similar sibling pest fruit fly species that possess different biological attributes,geographic distributions,and host *** need to differentiate between the two species is critical for accurate pest status assessment,management,biosecurity,and maintenance of reference *** morphologically similar,adults may be separated based on subtle characters;however,some characters exhibit intraspecific variability,creating overlap between the two ***,there is currently no single molecular marker or rapid diagnostic assay that can reliably distinguish between *** and ***;therefore,ambiguous samples remain *** we report the first molecular marker that can consistently distinguish between *** and *** diagnostic region consists of two adjacent single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)within the pangolin(pan)gene *** confirmed the genotypes of each species are consistent across their distributional range,then developed a tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system(ARMS)PCR assay for rapid diagnosis of the *** assay utilizes four primers in multiplex,with two outer universal primers,and two internal primers:one designed to target two adjacent SNPs(AA)present in *** and the other targeting adjacent SNPs present in ***(GG).The assay accurately discriminates between the two species,but their SNP genotypes are shared with other nontarget tephritid fruit fly ***,this assay is most suited to adult diagnostics where species confirmation is necessary in determining ambiguous surveillance trap catches;maintaining pure colony lines;and in Sterile Insect Technique management responses.

Effect of Variety and Plant Spacing on Growth and Yield of Groundnuts (Arachis hypogaea L.)

A field experiment was carried out to determine the effect of variety and plant spacing on yield and growth of groundnuts. The field experiment was laid in a 3 × 3 factorial experiment in a Randomized Complete block Design (RCbD) with three (3) replications. The factor A included three (3) groundnut varieties (Nkatie Sari, Sum Nutt 22 and Yenyawoso) and Factor b was the three (3) spacing of 30 cm × 15 cm, 30 cm × 30 cm and 30 cm × 40 cm. All recommended agronomic practices were followed. Data was collected from eight (8) tagged plants. Growth data were recorded on plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, and the number of flowers while yield data were collected on the number of flowers, number of pods per plant, 100 seeds weight and the pod yield (kg/ha). The plant spacing significantly influenced (P ber of leaves, number of branches and number of flowers were produced from 30 cm × 40 cm. Yenyawoso variety with a wider plant spacing performed better vegetatively among all the varieties. The Yenyawoso variety produced the highest number of pods, 100 seeds weight and pod yield as compared to the other varieties. Also, Yenyawoso at 30 cm × 40 cm spacing and Nkatie Sari at 30 cm × 15 cm spacing produced the maximum pod yield.

SIMPLE COMPUTING OF THE CUSTOMER LIFETIME VALUE:A FIXED LOCAL-OPTIMAL POLICY APPROACH

In this paper,we present a new method for finding a fixed local-optimal policy for computing the customer lifetime *** method is developed for a class of ergodic controllable finite Markov *** propose an approach based on a non-converging state-value function that fluctuates（increases and decreases） between states of the dynamic *** prove that it is possible to represent that function in a recursive format using a one-step-ahead fixed-optimal ***,we provide an analytical formula for the numerical realization of the fixed local-optimal *** also present a second approach based on linear programming,to solve the same problem,that implement the c-variable method for making the problem computationally *** the end,we show that these two approaches are related：after a finite number of iterations our proposed approach converges to same result as the linear programming *** also present a non-traditional approach for ergodicity *** validity of the proposed methods is successfully demonstrated theoretically and,by simulated credit-card marketing experiments computing the customer lifetime value for both an optimization and a game theory approach.

A new rat model of portal hypertension induced by intraportal injection of microspheres

IM To produce a new rat model of portal hypertension by intraportal injection of microspheres.METHODS Measured aliquots of single or differentsized microspheres (15, 40, 80μm) were injected into the portal vein to block intrahepatic portal radicals. The resultant changes in arterial, portal, hepatic venous and splenic pulp pressures were monitored. The liver and lungs were excised for histological examination.RESULTS Portal venous pressure was elevated from basal value of 089-102 kPa to a steadystate of 198-319 kPa following the sequential injections of single or differentsized microspheres, with a markedly lowered mean arterial pressure. However, a smalldose injection of 80μm microspheres (18×105) produced a steadystate portal venous pressure of 253±017 kPa, and all rats showed normal arterial pressures. In addition, numerous microspheres were found in the lungs in all experimental groups.CONCLUSION Portal hypertension can be reproduced in rats by intraportal injection of microspheres at a small dose of 80μm (18×105). Intrahepatic portalsystemic shunts probably exist in the normal rat liver..

Resistance to receptor tyrosine kinase inhibition in cancer： molecular mechanisms and therapeutic strategies

Drug resistance is a major factor that limits the efficacy of targeted cancer therapies. In this review, we discuss the main known mechanisms of resistance to receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which are the most prevalent class of targeted therapeutic agent in current clinical use. Here we focus on bypass track resistance, which involves the activation of alternate signaling molecules by tumor cells to bypass inhibition and maintain signaling output, and consider the problems of signaling pathway redundancy and how the activation of different receptor tyrosine kinases translates into intracellular signal transduction in different cancer types. This information is presented in the context of research strategies for the discovery of new targets for pharmacological intervention, with the goal of overcoming resistance in order to improve patient outcomes.

This work explores the potential of a triple combination of meropenem(MEM),a novel metallo-blactamase(MbL)inhibitor(indole-2-carboxylate 58(InC58)),and a serine-b-lactamase(SbL)inhibitor(avibactam(AVI))for broad-spectrum activity against carbapenemase-producing bacteria.A diverse panel comprising MbL-and SbL-producing strains was used for susceptibility testing of the triple combination using the agar dilution *** frequency of resistance(FoR)to MEM combined with InC58 was *** were sequenced and tested for cross resistance,fitness,and the stability of the resistance *** with the double combinations of MEM plus an SbL or MbL inhibitor,the triple combination extended the spectrum of activity to most of the isolates bearing SbLs(oxacillinase-48(OXA-48)and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-2(KPC-2))and MbLs(New Delhi metallo-blactamases(NDMs)),although it was not effective against Verona integron-encoded metallo-blactamase(VIM)-carrying Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***)and OXA-23-carrying Acinetobacter baumannii(***).The FoR to MEM plus InC58 ranged from 2.22×10^(-7)to 1.13×10^(-6).The resistance correlated with mutations to ompC and comR,affecting porin C and copper permeability,*** mutants manifested a fitness cost,a decreased level of resistance during passage without antibiotic pressure,and cross resistance to another carbapenem(imipenem)and a b-lactamase inhibitor(taniborbactam).In conclusion,compared with the dual combinations,the triple combination of MEM with InC58 and AVI showed a much wider spectrum of activity against different carbapenemaseproducing bacteria,revealing a new strategy to combat b-lactamase-mediated antimicrobial resistance.

The development of freestanding and binder-free electrode is an effective approach to perform the inherent capacity of active materials and promote the mechanism study by minimizing the interference from ***,we construct a freestanding cathode composed of MoS_(3)/PPy nanowires(NWs)deposited on porous nickel foam(NF)(MoS_(3)/PPy/NF)through electrochemical methods,which can work efficiently as sulfur-equivalent cathode material for Li-S *** structural stability of the MoS_(3)/PPy/NF cathode is greatly enhanced due to its significant tolerance to the volume expansion of MoS_(3)during the lithiation process,which we ascribe to the flexible 3D framework of PPy NWs,leading to superior cycling performance compared to the bulk-MoS_(3)/NF *** the interference of binder and carbon additives,the evolution of the chemical and electronic structure of Mo and S species during the discharge/charge was studied by X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy(XANES).The formation of lithium polysulfides was excluded as the driving cathode reaction mechanism,suggesting the great potential of MoS_(3)as a promising sulfur-equivalent cathode material to evade the shuttle effect for Li-S *** present study successfully demonstrates the importance of structural design of freestanding electrode enhancing the cycling performances and revealing the corresponding mechanisms.
