Geometric metasurface for polarization synthesis and multidimensional multiplexing of terahertz converged vortices

The investigation of converged twisted beams with a helical phase structure has a remarkable impact on both fundamental physics and practical *** metasurfaces consisting of individually orientated metal/dielectric meta-atoms provide an ultracompact platform for generating converged ***,it is still challenging to simultaneously focus left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized incident beams with pure geometric phase modulation,which hinders the independent operation on topological charges between these two helical *** we propose and experimentally demonstrate an approach to design terahertz geometric metasurfaces that can generate helicity-independent converged vortices with homogeneous polarization states by the superposition of two orthogonal helical vortices with identical topological ***,the multiplexing of polarization-rotatable multiple vortices in multiple dimensions,i.e.,in both longitudinal and transverse directions,and a vortex with an extended focal depth is confirmed by embedding polarization modulation into the geometric *** demonstrated approach provides a new way to simultaneously manipulate orthogonal helical components and expand the design dimension,enabling new applications of geometric metasurface devices in polarization optics,twisted-beam related image and edge detection,high capacity optical communication,and quantum information processing,to name a few.

We present the results of research carried out for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, on the generation of terahertz radiation under the action of "single-color" and "dual-color" high-power femtosecond laser pulses on liquefied gas–liquid nitrogen. Our experimental results supported by careful theoretical interpretation showed clearly that under femtosecond laser radiation, liquid and air emit terahertz waves in a very different way. We assumed that the mobility of ions and electrons in liquid can play an essential role, forming a quasi-static electric field by means of ambipolar diffusion mechanism.

Terahertz(THz)science and technology have attracted significant attention based on their unique applications in non-destructive imaging,communications,spectroscopic detection,and ***,traditional THz devices must be sufficiently thick to realise the desired wave-manipulating functions,which has hindered the development of THz integrated systems and ***,which are two-dimensional metamaterials consisting of predesigned meta-atoms,can accurately tailor the amplitudes,phases,and polarisations of electromagnetic waves at subwavelength resolutions,meaning they can provide a flexible platform for designing ultra-compact and high-performance THz *** review focuses on recent advancements in metasurfaces for the wavefront manipulation of THz waves,including the planar metalens,holograms,arbitrary polarisation control,special beam generation,and active metasurface *** ultra-compact devices with unique functionality make metasurface devices very attractive for applications such as imaging,encryption,information modulation,and THz *** progress report aims to highlight some novel approaches for designing ultra-compact THz devices and broaden the applications of metasurfaces in THz science.

Effects of site preparation methods on soil physical properties and outplanting success of coniferous seedlings in boreal forests

This study assessed the effect of patch scarification and mounding on the physical properties of the root layer and the success of tree planting in various types of *** study was conducted on 12 forest sites in taiga forests of the European part of Russia.A total of 54 plots were set up to assess seedling survival;root collar diameter,height,and heigh increment were measured for 240 seedlings to assess *** the rooting layer,240 soil samples were taken to determine physical *** study showed that soil treatment methods had no effect on bulk density and total porosity in Cladina ***,reduced soil moisture was noted,particularly in mounds,resulting in increased *** Myrtillus sites,there were increased bulk density,reduced soil moisture,and total porosity in the *** treatment in polytrichum sites resulted in reduced soil moisture and increased aeration *** the Myrtillus and polytrichum sites,patch scarification had no effects on physical *** polytrichum sites,survival rates,heights,and heigh increments of bareroot Norway spruce seedlings in mounds were higher than in patches;however,the same did not apply to *** Cladina and Myrtillus sites,there was no difference in growth for bareroot and containerised seedlings with different soil *** conditions and soil types should be considered when applying different soil treatment methods to ensure high survival rates and successful seedling growth.

Organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide perovskites(MHps)have attracted tremendous attention for optoelectronic *** long photocarrier lifetime and moderate carrier mobility have been proposed as results of the large polaron formation in ***,it is challenging to measure the effective mass and carrier scattering parameters of the photogenerated large polarons in the ultrafast carrier recombination ***,we show,in a one-step spectroscopic method,that the optical-pump and terahertz-electromagnetic probe(OpTp)technique allows us to access the nature of interplay of photoexcited unbound charge carriers and optical phonons in polycrystalline CH_(3)NH_(3)pbI_(3)(MApbI_(3))of about 10μm grain ***,we demonstrate a direct spectral evidence of the large polarons in polycrystalline MApbI_(3).Using the Drude-Smith-Lorentz model along with the Frӧhlich-type electron-phonon(e-ph)coupling,we determine the effective mass and scattering parameters of photogenerated polaronic *** discover that the resulting moderate polaronic carrier mobility is mainly influenced by the enhanced carrier scattering,rather than the polaron mass ***,the formation of large polarons in MApbI_(3)polycrystalline grains results in a long charge carrier lifetime at room *** results provide crucial information about the photo-physics of MApbI3 and are indispensable for optoelectronic device development with better performance.

Transient adhesion effects in rolling–sliding contacts influence all aspects of train–track *** is of high importance specifically when these effects result in critically low adhesion,which poses a risk to traction and braking of railway *** study presents a model that can replicate the transient changes of the coefficient of adhesion with tested water and solid particle *** experimental data for the model are measured using a commercial ball-on-disc *** experimental results showed a liquid reservoir in front of the contact area that slowly reduces in *** observation was used in the modelling approach to divide the calculation into two stages where the reservoir is present and when it *** model was able to reproduce the occurrence of low adhesion region seen in experimental results with different particle concentrations.

Competitive Resource Allocation Among Urban Congestion Areas in a Modern Big City

The continuing growth of modern big cities leads to their spatial expansion and the emergence of new road connections and urban *** where large transportation flows of pedestrians,passengers,and drivers come together create demand points,which attract business companies that strive to allocate their resources in the most sought-after ***,the law of supply and demand restrains companies from allocating all their resources solely in the most popular congestion areas since the more valuable an urban area,the higher the cost to be paid for a resource unit allocation *** a result,companies act in a non-cooperative manner and try to minimize their own overall costs when allocating resources across available commercial areas in a big ***-cooperative behavior of companies leads to the problem of Nash equilibrium search in the game of competing *** this paper,we study the corresponding resource allocation game under affine cost functions and obtain Nash equilibrium strategies in explicit *** findings allow us to develop a simple procedure for computing Nash equilibria in the game of companies allocating their resources among urban congestion *** computational study demonstrates the dependence of the average price for resource allocation on the number of players and their resource *** outcome of the paper contributes to flow theory and seems to be fresh and useful for managers.

An increasing number of tasks now require the use of hardware accelerators to reduce the time required for computation and display the computational *** paper presents a new graphics system architecture for operating systems(OSs)with microkernel architecture,including real-time *** proposed system architecture provides capabilities for displaying graphical images on various information display devices and for accelerating graphical operations on *** architecture of the graphics system uses a concept of allocators to manage system and video memory,provides an abstraction of memory operations with a single interface for video memory management,and simplifies memory handling where incorrect operation is the cause of many failures.A comparison between the performance of a real-time OS and Linux OS implementing the graphics system using the example of a glmark2 benchmark is presented,thereby the superiority of the proposed architecture in several scenarios is demonstrated.
