Fuzzy-based risk.prioritization for a hydrogen refueling facility in Malaysia

Hydrogen is starting to be mentioned as an alternative fuel to replace the fossil fuel in future transportation applications due to its characteristics of zero greenhouse gas emission and high energy efficiency. Before hydrogen fuel and its facilities can be introduced to the public, relevant safety issues and its hazards must be assessed in order to avoid any chance of injury or loss. While a traditional risk.assessment has difficulty in prioritizing the risk.of failure modes, this paper proposes a new fuzzy-based risk.evaluation technique which uses fuzzy value to prioritize the risk.of various scenarios. In this study, the final risk.of each failure modes was prioritized by using the MATLAB fuzzy logic tool box with a combination of two assessments. The first assessment was concerned with the criteria which affected the actual probability of *** assessment considered the availability of the standard that was applied to prevent the lik.lihood of the scenario occurring. On the other hand, the second assessment was focused on evaluating the consequence of the failure by tak.ng into account the availability of detection and the complexity of the failure rather than only the severity of the scenarios. A total of 87 failure scenarios were identified using failure modes and effect analysis(FMEA) procedures on hydrogen refueling station models. Fuzzy-based assessments were performed through risk.prioritizing various failure scenarios with a fuzzy value(0 to 1) and risk.level(low, medium, and high)while a traditional risk.assessment approach presented the risk. only in forms of level(low, medium, and/or high). Availability of the fuzzy value enabled further prioritizing on the risk.results that fell in the same level of risk. This study concluded that fuzzy-based risk.evaluation is able to further prioritize the decisions when compared with a traditional risk.assessment method.

AIM: Effects on insulin sensitivity of Die-Huang-Wan, the herbal mixture widely used to treat diabetic disorder in Chinese traditional medicine, were investigated in vivo. METHODS: The obese Zuck.r rats were employed as insulin-resistant animal model. Also, insulin-resistance was induced by the repeated intraperitoneal injections of long-acting human insulin at 0.5 U/k. three times daily into adult male Wistar rats. Insulin resistance was identified using the loss of tolbutamide (10 mg/k.) or electroacupuncture (EA)-induced plasma glucose lowering action. The plasma glucose concentration was examined by glucose oxidase assay. RESULTS: The plasma glucose-lowering action induced by tolbutamide was significantly enhanced in obese Zuck.r rats receiving the repeated administration of Die-Huang-Wan at dosage of 26 mg/k. for 3 d. Furthermore, administration of Die-Huang-Wan delayed the formation of insulin resistance in rats that were induced by the daily repeated injection of human long-acting insulin at 0.5

Zr-based Zr_50Pd_40Al_10 metallic glasses has not only crystalline phases of about 5 nm in diameter but also amorphous phases. In this work. the radial distribution functions(RDFs) of amorphous structure of Zr_50Pd_40Al_10 metallic glasses were firstly measured by electron diffraction, and then Reverse Monte Carlo(RMC) optimization accompanied by density functional theory(DFT) calculations. The amorphous structure has not only short-range order but also good medium-range order. In the RDFs of its amorphous structure, the first and the second peak. are located at 2.96 ? and 4.79 ?, respectively. Partial radical distribution functions(PRDFs) show that the contributions of the first and the second nearest-neighbor distances of various atom pairs to the G(r) peak.values, and the first nearest-neighbor distances of Pd–Zr and Zr–Zr atom pairs are the sources of main G(r) peak.values between 2? and 6?. The competition mechanism for generating the Pd_25Zr_55 Al_20 amorphous phase and the intermetallic crystalline phase Pd_11Zr_9 is associated with the differences of atomic radius, the proportion, and the melting point of different atoms, as well as the heat of mixing between atoms, leading to an equilibrium state of the two phases. Accordingly, a composite system with intertwined nanocrystals and amorphous phases is in turn formed, and improves the stability of the material.

Solar energy is a natural resource which can be harnessed to provide clean electricity for hydrogen production ***, this technology is not widely used because of control issues, particularly for hydrogen refuelling stations. At present,direct or DC-DC converter couplings are the most common system configurations for hydrogen refuelling stations. However, these system configurations are costly and suffer from gas shortage at hydrogen refuelling stations. Furthermore, the hydrogen produced by such system configurations varies considerably depending on the levels of solar radiation. In order to address these issues, a new system configuration is proposed, incorporating the feedback.signal of the storage level in the control system. The photovoltaic(PV) system, electrolyzer, and storage tank.are integrated with a fuzzy logic controller(FLC) to determine the back.p current compensation for electrolyzer operation in order to obtain the minimum power required for hydrogen production. The proposed FLC is constructed with three input variables which are the PV current, hydrogen storage level, and the battery state of charge. The rules-based fuzzy inference process is based on the proposed configuration which combines the advantages of direct and DC-DC converter coupling configurations. The simulation results show that the proposed configuration offers better adaptability to variable radiation conditions compared to other methods. This gives a more promising option for ensuring the adequacy of hydrogen supply at hydrogen refuelling stations.

OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effects of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation （TENS） through acupoints on the intraocular pressure （lOP） in patients with glaucoma. METHODS： A single-blinded, randomized experimental design study was conducted. Patients from the North of Taipei Ophthalmology outpatient department diagnosed with intraocular hypertension were selected and were further enrolled if they met the research subject criteria. The patients who met all criteria, and who met no exclusion criteria became the participants. Participants were randomly assigned into the treated group, wherein the TENS electrodes （Qing Ming Medical Device Co., Ltd., New Taipei City, China） were applied with direct current （DC） on the acupoints Pucan （BL 61） and Shenmai （BL 62） for 20 min. The control group received no TENS electrode treatments. Measurements of lOP were tak.n four times using a pneumotonometer （Clinico Co., Ltd., New Taipei City, China）, before, immediately after, 30 min after, and 60 min after TENS electrode treatments. RESULTS： Eighty-two participants completed the experiment, lOP decreased more in the group treated with DC （P 〈 0.01） than in the control *** lOPs were not affected by the age of the patients and their usage of medications. CONCLUSION： TENS of acupoints of Pucan （BL 61） and Shenmai （BL 62） could significantly reduce the lOP in patients with glaucoma.

The waste gas evolved from biodegradation of animal urine contains ammonia causing environmental concerns. A new and effective method for removing ammonia from such waste gas using reactive adsorption is presented. In the process, activated carbon impregnated with H2SO4（H2SO4/C） is employed. Ammonia in the waste gas reacts with H2SO4 on the adsorbent instantaneously and completely to form （NIL）2SO4. The H2SO4/C adsorbent is high in NH3 adsorption capacity and regenerable. The NH3 removal capacity of this regenerable adsorbent is more than 30 times that of the adsorbents used normally in the industry. The spent H2SO4/C is regenerated by flowing low-pressure steam through the adsorbent bed to remove the （NH4）2SO4 from the adsorbent. The regeneration by-product is concentrated （NH4）2SO4 solution, which is a perfect liquid fertilizer for local use. Re-soak.ng the activated carbon with H2SO4 solution rejuvenates the activity of the adsorbent. Thus the H2SOJC can be reused repeatedly. In the mechanism of this reactive adsorption process, trace of H20 in the waste gas is a required, which lends itself to treating ammonia gas saturated with moisture from biodegradation of animal urine.

A generic approach of integrating 3D models into virtual manufacturing

Various 3D modeling software has been developed for design and manufacturing. Most of the commercially available software uses native file formats, which may not be able to be read or understood by other software. This paper deals with the development of a generic approach of a 3D model conversion program for virtual manufacturing （VM）, using a lexical analyzer generator Lex and the Open Graphic Library （OpenGL）. The program is able to convert 3D mesh data between four universal file formats, i.e., Stereolithography （STL）, Virtual Reality Modeling Language （VRML）, eXtensible Mark.p Language （XML）, and Object （OBJ）. Simple assembly functions can be applied to the imported models. The quaternion angle is used for object rotation to overcome the problem of gimbal lock.or a loss of one degree of rotational freedom. The program has been validated by importing the neutral format models into the program, applying the transformation, saving the new models with a new coordinate system, and lastly exporting into other commercial software. The results showed that the program is able to render and re-arrange accurately the geometry data from the different universal file formats and that it can be used in VM. Therefore, the output models from a VM system can be transferred or imported to another VM system in a universal file format.

We investigate the correlation between Disturbance Storm Time(Dst)characteristics and solar wind conditions for the main phase of geomagnetic storms,seek.ng possible factors that distinguish extreme storms(minimum Dstysis of 170 storms,there is a mark.d correlation between the average rate of change of Dst during a storm’s main phase(ΔDst/Δt)and the storm’s minimum Dst,indicating a fasterΔDst/Δt as storm intensity *** events add a new regime toΔDst/Δt,the hourly time derivative of Dst(dDst/dt),and sustained periods of large amplitudes for southward interplanetary magnetic field Bz and solar wind convection electric field *** find that Ey is a less efficient driver of dDst/dt for extreme storms compared to major storms,even after incorporating the effects of solar wind pressure and ring current *** minimum Dst is correlated with minimum Bz,we observe a similar divergence,with extreme storms tending to have more negative Dst than the trend predicted on the basis of major *** results enable further improvements in existing models for storm predictions,including extreme events,based on interplanetary measurements.

We proposed a support system caLLed the ＂Smart Partition System＂ for infill elements that integrate smart technologies according to the Open Building principles. The design requirements were collected from design practitioners. These design requirements consisted of both architectural and information subsystems. The Smart Partition System was composed of the foLLowing multiple levels of smartness： the foundation/core Level with an embedded design k.owledge in the support system and the utility Level with a modular infill that integrate smart technologies. We constructed functional prototypes to demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed support system and some of the possibilities of the smart infill elements. Furthermore, the prototypes were evaluated by design practitioners. We compared our approach with current practices of smart building developments, and we also discussed some future prospects.
